I'm looking for some recommendations please Smile
I do not want to use a Bumboo or anything similar but I'm not sure what I can sit my DS in when we start weaning x

IKEA antilop Smile

CMOTDibbler · 03/04/2015 09:47

The Ikea Antilop has to win every time - cheap, mega easy to clean, can come up to the table or use its tray, and it packs down pretty small if you need to transport it

Murphy29 · 03/04/2015 09:51

We just bought the Joie Snacker from argos which had great reviews and was about £40. We went to mamas and papas first and some were £££ but had awful reviews so worth checking feedback.

DS seems comfy in it and it's really easy to fold away. We bought it as needed something that day and if it wasn't great we'd have left with GPs but really like it and great value.

Stokke trip trapp. Seems expensive but lasts years as really most still need a booster or junior chair of some sort until around 5 to reach whilst sitting on bottom rather than knees. Adults can also sit once in chair mode if needed

Grantaire · 03/04/2015 11:41

Absolutely an Ikea Antilop. £15, it fits in the dishwasher when dismantled, really easy to clean and I never needed a highchair beyond age 2-3. DC sat on a normal chair, occasionally on a cushion where necessary.

Stokke Tripp Trapps are very pretty but an investment/piece of furniture and £££. My friend also fell over the feet 8 billion times a day. Grin

First child = silly expensive, padded, reclinable chair with underneath storage. It broke!

Second child = ikea antillop.

We learned our lesson!

forago · 03/04/2015 11:54

whenever these threads cone up I make it a point to share my wisdom, the kids later, and go:

ANTILOP! ANTILOP! ANTILOP!

which is what these threads always say, with a bit of stoke trip trap second.

MrsN1984 · 03/04/2015 13:20

The antilop- would it be suitable for 5/6 months?

OP posts:
temperamentalamongcorvids · 03/04/2015 13:21

Antelope and yes, I padded the dc with a rolled up towel from 5.5 months

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 03/04/2015 13:42

If they can sit well enough to wean they should be fine in an antilop. maybe with a tea towel or cushion behind to start with.

bluechameleon · 03/04/2015 15:12

You can get an inflatable insert to go with the Antilop which is ggod. Or the little £1 cushions in IKEA are the right size for the back.

Latium123 · 03/04/2015 15:55

I did a similar post a few weeks back and the vast majority came back with the Ikea Antilop which we went for. I have now been trying solids for three weeks and DD loves sitting in her Antilop getting ready for her food. I bought the ikea inflatable cushion which means she is well supported in the seat and it washes really well. The highchair and tray are so so easy to clean after each feed. Absolutely no regrets in getting this highchair and it is so cheap!

Flingingmelon · 03/04/2015 16:04

We went down the Tripp trap route which was great until DS decided (after six months) that high chairs are for losers and only wants to sit in a toddler sized chair. Wish I'd got cheap and cheerful from ikea now ??

Girlwithnotattoos · 03/04/2015 16:09

Another vote for the ikea Antilop absolutely brilliant. Buy the inflatable insert and your little one will be fine in it. X

Stillill · 03/04/2015 16:11

I have no idea why anyone would buy anything other than an ikea antilop. Had ours a year now and still like new.

Artandco · 03/04/2015 16:30

Fling - why don't you just turns the trip trap into the main chair then as you can

happylittlevegemites · 03/04/2015 16:35

We have the oxo sprout and love it. If we didn't have that, we'd get the antilip (which I think just doesn't look as comfy). I hate the big padded contraptions - they look impossible to sit up properly in.

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 03/04/2015 18:59

We got the oxo tot sprout and love it! Easy to clean and lasts till 5 without the expense of the Stoke trip trap.

MrsN1984 · 03/04/2015 23:18

Thank you so much for the advice.
A friend thinks I'm mad to wean without a Bumboo but I really don't like the physio reviews on them x

Bumbos are a waste of money

24hourM0MMY · 04/04/2015 01:40

Babybjorn Appetite is the one we used. Tad pricey but will last years and our son sat in it well past age 2. Simple to clean and compact. I've recommended it to several people who have gone on and bought it and love it as well. Best baby purchase i ever made!

milkjetmum · 04/04/2015 02:25

There's an inflatable insert support cushion which fits inside the antilop for first few months. Another vote for the antilop here!

strawberry01 · 04/04/2015 03:33

Bumbo is definitely a waste of money.

We have the bonito Bebe feed me now and its good. Comfy and padded, reclines (not that we've had to use that feature), variable height, folds easily and has a small net bag underneath (we keep bibs in there). It cost us £40 on sale.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 04/04/2015 08:36

Where does she put the bumbo? On a table isn't safe. On the floor must do your back in.Confused
