Really depends on the uni frenchconnection. Some are all ready replying others will wait till the deadline (January) before making any offers.

Busyalexsmummy · 27/10/2006 21:52

I assumed it would take a while so I'm ok with that. I'll just put it to the back of my mind until I hear something/anything!

Busyalexsmummy · 29/10/2006 20:26

Well done Busyalexsmummy that is definately a good sign. Where would your first choice be? Are you based in the south west at the moment?

Busyalexsmummy · 29/10/2006 22:38

UWE-bristol my first choice, yes Im in somerset

OP posts:
fifi26 · 30/10/2006 08:07

I was considering UWE too (I'm based in Taunton). When I looked further into it they didn't accept the access course I'm on

Busyalexsmummy · 30/10/2006 11:48

are you on a general access rather than a healthcare related one?
I have the same prob when i rang their admissions last year, so....I have to travel 30 miles for my access course rather than 3 miles to my nearest college-my nearest one only does the general access.
It would be worth applying anyway I think as iirc someone I know of got in last year of the general access after theyd told everyone else they wouldnt accept it
Would you be applying for midwifery?
I really need to get into UWE as the other choices I would have to move and the whole childcare/shadowing my mentor at night etc would prob cause a problem

fifi26 · 30/10/2006 17:15

I'm studying a social science access course, hoping to go into teaching. UWE only accept the humanities access course for the BEd. I may try again to see if UWE will accept the social science access (will try through UCAS extra). Hopefully will get into Exeter and wont need to.

In all honesty UWE would be a nightmare of a commute but I'll be clutching at straws if I don't get into Exeter

Really wish I had done all this years ago before having dd it would have been so much easier.

Moonpie · 30/10/2006 22:33

I came home from work tonight to a phone call from one of the unis I've applied to so that's good. Though is quite amusing as they're asking me to clarify I have O-level maths and English. I had to phone my friend to see what O-levels were/are. I had an idea (I'm foreign) but needed to clarify. I already have a degree so you think they'd be able to make a reasonable guess that I have them! This was to decide if I was shortlisted apparently!

fifi26 · 31/10/2006 09:10

Well done Moonpie. Wish I was getting some news soon but since I found out yesterday that my reference hasn't even been completed (and wont be for another week) thin I've got a rather long wait.

fifi26 · 09/11/2006 17:24

Anyone else heard anything yet?

Busyalexsmummy · 09/11/2006 20:49

Ive had a letter from Bournmouth asking for a second reference! Also received the biographical questionaire from UWE on sat, so have filled that in and have to send it off tommorrow-scary!

Good luck busyalexsmummy. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Busyalexsmummy · 18/11/2006 22:35

Thanks x
Well got declined from southhapmton on friday!
This is because they wont accept GCSE maths equivilant-even though(the irony) the maths we are doing on access is A level equivilant.
Not particulary bothered as apart from UWE I applied to others to get an insight into how my personal statement was, and if I get any interviews, it'll be good practice for UWE! heho

Good luck to all you prospective students!!! I started a uni degree last year, but had to pull out due to financial (and husband) reasons. Now separated I am going to apply again when my LO has started school (a few years). I was doing something totally academic before, but have had a real moment of clarity since my marriage broke down and I really want to become a midwife. It is a complete change in direction for me and I will have to do an Access to nursing course first.

The only thing is I know how much competetion there is for places, if I had to move away from my home town with my DD to study, would I get support and would it be fair on her? Just thinking out loud, but am very excited just thinking about it. I had a crap birth experience with many rubbish midwives (except one lovely angel who saved me, she was fab). I just feel that I want to offer women a much better experience than I had because becoming a mother was the single most amazing experience in my life and it would be so gratifying to help other Mums go through this (potentially) fantastic experience! Gosh, lol, have I sold myself well enough?

I received an email from Exeter Uni on Friday. Just confirming they had my applictation. Apperantly I will have a decision within 4 weeks of them receiving the application so I should know in the next 3 weeks. OMG its either going to make or ruin my Christmas.

Busyalexsmummy · 23/11/2006 18:53

oooooooooh! Good luck, I hope its good news for you this close to christmas, fingers crossed for you! x
I rang UWE today about my questionaire and supposedly if im unsuccessful I should hear within the next 4-6 weeks, if ive heard nothing by then, I should get an interview in feb...

OP posts:
frenchconnection · 24/11/2006 16:00

Well i have heard nothing. Not an email, not a questionnaire, not a call. A big fat nothing indeed.

Busyalexsmummy · 24/11/2006 19:01

frenchconnection-you wont get a questionaire-unless its UWE you've applied to as they are currently the only university that do the questionaire at present (and when they do send them out its done in several different batches)

Basically the longer you dont hear from them, the better, as people are already getting rejections from unis, they do all the rejections first then after that they choose who out their "yes" pile they want to interview etc

Think positive and fingers crossed!
