More help needed for the reusable virgin!!

I decided on trying Terries for my first forray into reusables and after taking ages to come, I washed them yesterday and decided to try them today.

So far not so good.

I bought the extra large terries as my DS is a big boy and motherease wraps. First one on thismorning and he did a MASSIVE poo that went all over the linner, nappy and wrap. Second one on and he had gone through to the wrap in less than 2 hours. Have to admit that I have just put DS in a disposable for his nap as he had a bad night with teething and I really want him to have a good sleep.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just this hard? Have tried Pad folding so far but seems to be useless around the leg and really bulky. I have tried other folds on a teddy but they are not long enough or wide enough (as I said he is a big boy, tall and chubby in the waist and thighs- in size 5 nappies and they are a bit on the small size!)

should i have opted for a fitted nappy? Any advise on folds?

He is 14 months but I am preg with another due in Jan so if I decided to try a fitted one would I be better with a one size so they are in the same or two sets, one for each and the baby grows into the bigger size. I am planning to have more children after this one so they would have to last.
