Do you was your childrens clothes after each wear?

DS (2.5) has the same jeans on as yesterday because they were not dirty a friend I seen yesterday has just said 'does DS have 2 pairs of those' in a very judgy manner I said no he has one she's told me in a round about as polite as she can way she doesn't put worn (aka dirty) clothes on her kids and washes everything no matter how long they have it on for and i'm a manky bitch of course not right out.

I'm a bit upset at being judged and tbh I don't see the problem. I wash pants and socks after each use and t-shirts usually are dirty so get washed but jeans and trousers can do 2 days unless they have marks/spills. Am I being manky? I've got enough washing never mind washing hardly worn clothes.

If I was worried about her looking clean I'd be changing my toddler several times a day.

Thick trousers ie jeans, no she wears them more than once unless dirty.

Everything else is washed, same as me and DH. However DD is only 21 months so her clothes are always in need of a wash. Also TMI Alert if your child is still in nappies, if you sniff the bum, they often smell! So trousers have to pass the sniff test here.

Bloody hell, madness to wash after every wear unless dirty. Maaaaadness.

Mine are 6 and 9 and I wash when it's visibly dirty.

I would love to not wash my DCs clothes after one wear but they just seem to get dirty in a sterile room, I don't understand it!

I don't think either of my DSs has ever kept an item of clothing clean enough be worn twice! But if they did I'd have no hesitation. I would wear my own clothes (at least jeans / jumpers / cardies that haven't been next to skin) more than once (and at the moment am pregnant so living in a tiny maternity wardrobe and wearing my jeans until they start to smell Blush). Tell your friend it's not environmentally friendly to do unnecessary washing.

No and never have done. I wash when things are dirty or a bit sweaty etc but not everything after one wash. Obviously when dd was tiny that was more regularly but she is 12 now so no need.

Would seem a dreadful waste of water, detergent and energy, let alone time. Do people really have that much time in their day to wash, dry and iron all the time? I just simply don't have the time or desire to do so!

Tell her that you actually care whether there's a planet for them to live on when they grow up even if she doesn't........

Underwear does get changed daily, though bras get two days normally.

Thanks everyone DS's tshirts rarely last the day but jeans do 2 days most of the time unless we have been at the park. The jeans in question had only been on from about 4pm yesterday til bath time.

The 'friend' is very into clothes for her DD she is apparently shocked that DS is still wearing the clothes he got at xmas as she would have got bored of them by now if it was her. she spends lots of money she doesn't have on various outfits for her daughter the child has 23 pairs of shoes at 2 years old because different outfits need the right shoes.

they wear clean clothes every day. more often than not that means freshly washed, but hope to get a couple of wears out of them.

Bored of them? She should come and see DD, she hasn't grown between the age of 18m and 2.5y, she is achieving something I never thought would happen with a young child, but some of her clothes are actually washed out!

I'll take some of the shoes though Grin

I'm finding the notion of buying a 2 yr old new clothes simply because I'm bored of the existing ones a bit bizarre Confused

It's very bizarre if I have spare money i'd rather buy a toy he wants or go a day trip but apparently every child needs a seasonal wardrobe.

The moment my children stop smearing themselves and each other in jam/mud/assorted bodily fluids I will thank my lucky stars and stop washing anything without visible stains or a distinct whiff.

Everything gets worn twice here, unless it's obviously dirty with food or mud or whatever.
Your friend is a twit.
If she wants to make twice the work out of it, then more fool her.

Oh except underwear...which is always fresh.

pictish · 21/08/2014 13:11

Oh and your friend also has a spending problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about what she thinks of how you deal with clothes in your house. Truly.

Yes I do. But I also have ishoos. I would certainly never judge anybody else for not doing the same as it is, I see in my more rational moments, kind of mad!

Report
Coughle · 21/08/2014 13:19

Yup,I would not be worrying at all what someone whose toddler has 23 pairs of shoes thinks of your parenting. And for the record, my kids often wear their clothes again even if they are visibly dirty, if I know they are just going to get dirty again immediately.

Report
AWhistlingWoman · 21/08/2014 13:20

And my children have 3 pairs, 2 pairs and 0 pairs of shoes each. 23 pairs of shoes!

Runs off to console self that at least only have washing issues and not spending issues too!

AWhistlingWoman · 21/08/2014 13:20

Child with 0 pairs of shoes is still a baby and doesn't walk yet obviously!

I was wondering about this as currently DD2 (5) and DD3 (4) usually wear clothes one day then put them in the wash, certainly school clothes. However jumpers and cardigans, if clean and trousers, again if clean I will put aside for the next day.
DS (15) almost always has new clothes on each day as he gets filthy and at that age very smelly by the end of the day.
DD1 (18) has been known to wear the same clothes for weeks on end if left to it

YANBU for putting on the same pair of jeans two days in a row

I do wash and iron everything after every wear, but I'm aware this is a bit obsessive and wouldn't judge another mum for not doing the same. In fact I wish I could stop myself Confused.

AWhistlingWoman · 21/08/2014 13:22

Also she recognised a pair of jeans that your DS was wearing as the same as those he had on yesterday Shock

She has quite the memory and an 'over observant' problem too! To add to the washing and spending issues. Ignore her!

Report
Purpleflamingos · 21/08/2014 13:22

We wear jeans again but not much else. But they are 3 and 5 so get messy easily.
