I have a dd 3 in november so really need to get her out of nappies now.
I have kind of tried before but with her in nursery some days and home others I gave up.
Please it would be great if some other mums could start with me and we can really support eachother?

I'm starting with dd today and its a nightmare so far lol

She weed last night after much cajoling- on th eloo. She doesnt seem to like the potty.

Put her on it loads this morning and then she weed on the floor when I turned my back for a minute.

I have her in a skirt and knickers so that she feels the wet but is easy to get on the potty/toilet.

Cod also has a toilet training thread if you're interested

Hi there,
We started potty training in earnest with DS who's 2 1/2 this week.
Just as we were leaving the front door this morning he said, "wee wee potty" so I dropped everything and searched frantically for the damn thing. Anyway he did it!! am sooo proud...
Mind you I am prepared that it is just a fluke and that it will now be a nightmare!

lovely to know that theres a few of us doing it together.

chocolatemummy · 12/09/2006 12:12

great, well She has gone to nursery this afternoon and she is in a pull up, which is no good I know but I want to get her dry at home first so that she will hopefully know thats how she should be, I also bought some of those Kando toilet wipes which she was pleased with and used them this mormning when she went (on the toilet)

i should join you really!!!! had tried with dd when she was just over 2 and gave up ; wee and poos etc were too much!!!! i think she could not be bothered tbh and so did the creche BUT 2 nights ago whilst in the bath she went "wait mama..." then stood up and 2 seconds later she did a wee ... standing! so i reckon she is ready as she understands and knows her bowel movements. not so easy as at work full time... anyway will give it a go tonight and report tomorrow since no pc at home.... in the meantime, good luck to you all

theflumpsmum · 12/09/2006 12:33

I'll join too.ds is 3 in December,I did mean to start in the summer hols but with Dd here too,it was never convienient s I thought I'd wait till she went back to school.I actually got the potty out last night, and getting some pull ups from Tescos later on(for the school run),so will start tomorrow.
Good luck to us all

Nanou1 · 12/09/2006 12:38

am dreading it really ...

chocolatemummy · 12/09/2006 13:05

yes I'm dreading it too as our house is on the market and don't need wee and poo springing up anywhere. But I think I need to break into it properly because she is 3 soon and I am fed up buying nappies

i understand completely! i feel the same; fed up with buying nappies! i understand that it is easier with kids between 2.5 & 3 as they understand their bowel movements then - apparently - it is nappy free life within one week! one can only live in hope!

hunnyhansak · 12/09/2006 13:25

Hi all,

I'm new to mumsnet - want to know if anyone has ever come across this. My little girl is 26 months old, and she is fussy over what nappy she wears. I used to put her in Fuzzybunz, and overnight into Moltex, but for about the last 2 months she refuses to wear anything other than the Moltex. I've tried her in pull-ups but she goes bonkers. I would like to start potty training so will join you lot starting Thursday.

Nanou1 · 12/09/2006 13:41

so my dd is normal after all then..... mine got into the disney pull ups but decided she only wanted to wear the ones with the 3 princesses - the one princess would NOT do... drove me up the wall but she did wear the dreaded nappies!!!! since then i mix the type i buy. i think it is their age you know. try not to worry . anyway, very soon nappies will only be a distant memory

geekgrrl · 12/09/2006 13:47

I started with ds yesterday. He'll also be 3 in November.
He's at nursery today so it's their problem at the moment.

Was going to start in summer hols but couldn't really cope with Yet Another Thing IYKWIM (I have two other little ones), but would now like him to go to a nursery that doesn't take children in nappies, so the time has come....

Pixiefish · 12/09/2006 15:32

Had real issues with being scared today so it's on the backburner for a week or two and I'll try just tempting her at different times rather than cold turkey

geekgrrl · 12/09/2006 16:10

mmh - not going well here. three accidents today, one involving poo on the slide!

Nanou1 · 12/09/2006 16:13

should be home by 6pm so will get the nappy off then. will do that everynight til friday then no nappy this coming weekend. will let the nursery off for this week!!! .

Nanou1 · 12/09/2006 16:14

3 accidents is good!!!! well done i'd say. first time i tried i'd gone through 8 pairs of pants in half a day!

hunnyhansak · 12/09/2006 21:01

Got her nappy off as soon as I got home, but she seems to hold it in till she gets the opportunity (in the bath I suspect!). Not had a wee or poo in potty or toilet yet

AttillaTheHan · 13/09/2006 09:27

How come children seem to store up their wee for the most innappropriate times?

We decided to move ds's room around and he wanted to help so I put him on his freshly changed bed (wearing his big boy pants - him not me!) while I moved his wardrobe. Having asked him every 30 seconds if he needed a wee, i got engrossed in stuff and turned back to find him splashing around in a big pool of wee - all over his duvet cover, pillowcases, etc etc
I totally should have seen this coming I know!!
Hope you are all doing well with your little ones...

Seashells · 13/09/2006 09:33

dd is 3 in november too and starting nursery then too, so I really need to get her potty trained soon. I was going to start this week but my youngest dd is teething and has cried constantly for the last few days, so as soon as she settles I'm going to give potty training a good go.

dd knows what the toilet/potty is for, she hides in the corner to do her no.2s and gets quite embarrassed about getting her nappy changed so I'd say she is way more than ready. We've tried a couple of times before but ended up mopping up alot of wee. She goes too far from the potty, then suddenly realises she needs a wee and tries to run back to it but never makes it in time and gets upset.

chocolatemummy · 14/09/2006 19:13

well, she had a cuople of accidents at nursery yesterday and today we have been at home all day with 'Pants' on and she has remebred everytime, she has shouted wee wee or poo poo and then i have to race her to the potty but atleast she has said it and we have got there in time, she used to say it and it would be done!
so not too bad at the moment guys, nice to see so much support on here thankyou

Can I join in?

DD is 2 on Monday, started potty training properly today
She likes sitting on the toilet, prefers it to the potty. Easier for me as we have a downstairs toilet aswell.
She tells me when she wants a wee or poo

Got her Fifi knickers, she wore them for 3 hours today told me when she wanted a wee, she sat on the toilet and did it. Gave her a little treat to say well done

Shes in her PJs now so has a nappy now

How is everyone else doing?

noonar · 14/09/2006 19:29

dd2 was 2 in july and totally knows when she is doing a poo or a wee, and tells me about it, but is reluctant to do a wee on the potty. she sits on it- shouts 'I've finished', but there's usually nothing there! maybe i should leave it a bit?
i sort of cant be bothered- lack of energy as dd1 just started school. is it wrong to leave it till she is 'over ready' so she sort of does it herself?

Nanou1 · 15/09/2006 13:36

Hi guys. it's been such a mad week...that i have left potty training til the weekend now... problem with my dd, is that - when we tried before - she would tell me once she had done either wee or poo. not before!!!! i think she is ready now although she loves her nappies...

chocolatemummy · 16/09/2006 18:04

well one accident in the car today, but doing quite well I think, just worry that nursery will have the time to carry it on on monday.

hi everybody. how is the potty training going? dont' know what to do with my dd. she just does not concentrate.... last night for example, took nappy off when back from creche and explained that if she needs a wee or a poo she must say and we go to the potty. asked her from time to time if she needed and she was always saying no. then suddenly she weed in the kitchen.... did not have a go not to put her off but am at a loss on how to deal with the potty training now! we talked about it again this morning and i bribed her by saying that now she is a big girl and we are going to tell the girls at the creche to help train her and when she is a big girl and has lots of stars she will get a snowwhite custom. any tips on how to make her concentrate etc... she is 2.5 years old. thank you.

fransmom · 21/09/2006 20:12

dd 1.7, tried her in easy up pants from tescos as she seemed ready before and was telling me mama, wee-wee (even for poo!). she did poo in bath and seemed quite embarrassed and bit distressed that she had done in bath and not nappy. she just wasn't comfy in them, when i looked closer they weren't shaped to fit the front or anything. she does have potty, maybe she not quite comp[letely ready yet. whayt you think?
