I can't believe I've only discovered this 3rd time round!

DS3 is 6 days old and we have been given a moses basket this time. With DS1 & DS2 we used a beautiful family crib which I slept in and my Dad. Of course the amazing thing about the moses basket is that when DS3 falls asleep in it downstairs in the evening, we can just carry it upstairs with him asleep in it, which means I can go to bed whenever I want. With my other two we would have to lift them ouy of the pram and carry them upstairs and put them in the crib. As you can imagine they always woke up and it then took forever to get them settled so I could go to bed. I honestly can't believe how stupid I was first and second time round and the hours of sleep I have missed in my life because of this! !

Is there anything you've learnt 2nd or 3rd time round that you wish you'd known before? !

3rd time round I learnt that a toddler proof house, was not dd2 proof. That if she could open the bathroom door then she could flush EVERYTHING down the toilet, that one purple felt pen goes an awfully long way, and doesn't wash/wipe off and take 5 coats of paint to cover.

I did also discover that if you teach your baby to take a midday nap in a buggy/pram, then you can go anywhere with them right up until they are 2 and they can nap in the buggy, in someone else's house!!

(dc1 only napped/slept at home form about 7 months)

I read that as four of you sleeping in a crib: two babies, you and your dad Grin

You may just have an amazing sleeper this time round. Plenty of babies won't sleep any where/wake at random

Moses baskets are the bees knees!

I am due to have a good sleeper iK8 as my middle one still wakes once or twice at 21m. I think the continuous lack of sleep has actually helped with the frequent newborn waking so there is a positive! I love the thought of that many people in the crib....!
Steppemum we had to put cupboard locks on for DS2 and the bin is still on the work surface so I'm dreading that phase with DS3!

My Moses basket was the most expensive laundry basket I've ever owned. DD1 hated it. We now live in a bungalow and have a co-sleeper on wheels. DD2 gets put on it with us and wheeled in to our room when we go to bed. Same idea I guess, I love it!

With DC2 I discovered that the t-shirt style bodysuits (with the wide neck) can be pulled off down the body. Thereby minimising baby poo up the back / in hair incidents.

I didn't discover bundlers 1st time around, was given some with dd, and wished we'd had some earlier - midnight nappy changes were SO much easier!

Bobulate · 02/07/2014 16:18

Custard what are bundlers?

LJBanana · 02/07/2014 20:36

I'm on no3 and have just noticed the yellow line on pampers nappies that turns blue when the nappy needs changing!

SweepTheHalls · 02/07/2014 20:37

What! There is a line that changes colour!

LJBanana · 02/07/2014 22:08

Yes! Yes there is!
3 DC's later and I notice- oooh that bluet/green line wasn't there when I put on the nappy. (Get's clean nappy out) wowsers it's yellow. ( Reads pampers packaging which explains the line).

Re reads this post and goes to look for life!

Bouncy chairs, baby 3.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/07/2014 22:15

I put little felt pads on the feet of the crib and dragged ds around the flat with me. he slept soundly and was right there whatever I was doing (paranoid first time mum? how dare you!)

unfortunately we moved into a house when i had dd

4 years later guess which one sleeps like a log and which one still tries to get into our bed in the middle of the night...

Glitterkitten24 · 02/07/2014 22:17

Yep meglet I discovered that when dc was 2.5!

lrb1982 · 02/07/2014 22:22

I too have only just discovered the line on the nappies. I'm hoping it is just a recent invention as I've changed enough nappies in my time!

I think bundlers is the new name for the old fashioned baby nighties win drawstring at the hem. They were really hard to find when mine were infants, but glad I had some as far easier than grobags and very practical on largely immobile newborns.

CustardFromATin · 02/07/2014 23:27

Bundlers are these nightie type things (for boys and girls), with a very long elasticates bottom so that for midnight nappy changes and the like you can just pull up the 'skirt', change, pull back down and tuck under. SO much easier than trying to faff around with legs and poppers in the dark (or when very tired, at any time of day at all Smile). I used to put mine in this and then a swaddle or grobag on top.

these ones

They are mint, I give them to lots of friends now!

slightlyinsane · 03/07/2014 14:26

It was a mw who educated me about the colour line on pampers, this was when I'd just had dd4&5. I think I made it look like I new, honest.

DuckSongRocks · 05/07/2014 22:11

Lines on pampers??!!! I'll be damned Grin

I skipped the moses basket completely last time round and had a bedside cot from the start. I reckon I got a ton more sleep. Would recommend.

mercifulgibbon · 06/07/2014 02:20

Is the line on all the pampers nappies?! I am ridiculously excited by this right now.

toomuchtooold · 06/07/2014 09:10

My god I must have changed what, about 2000 pampers nappies at least and I did not know about the line. Is it just the new baby ones or the bigger ones as well? I'm looking at a baby dry and can't see it.

Queazy · 06/07/2014 09:27

Line on the nappies? Genius! Smile Going to look at this when dd wakes up...

toomuchtooold · 10/07/2014 12:53

OK so I was waiting in the queue at the coop next to the nappies so I cam confirm it's on the new baby nappies only, not the babydry or active fit. Feel slightly less clueless now as I would never have noticed that in the first few months with twins...
