DS fell off the sofa, feeling like shit.

My 6 month old PFB fell off our sofa this morning. Panicked and rang an ambulance and he was checked over at a & e and seems fine.

Officially feeling like the worst mum in the world right now. And still worried about him!

Get a group of mum's together to confess to the first time they bumped their child...

Mine rolled off the bed, well forward rolled really at 8 months,

We have all done it.

KatyN · 01/07/2014 18:30

And you will do worse.

Fairylea · 01/07/2014 18:31

It happens to most of us.

Dh rolled 4 week old ds out of the moses basket when he moved him across our bedroom. It was literally inches off the floor but he didn't have as good a hold as he thought and ds rolled right out and rolled over at least once. He was absolutely fine... Dh was more traumatised!

Ds1 fell off the sofa at 4 months and ds2 fell off the bed at 6 months. It's like teething, weening, rolling and crawling happens to them all!

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 01/07/2014 18:33

Sorry fairlylea but that made me laugh!

JonSnowsPout · 01/07/2014 18:33

Yep done it to both my boys. Both rolled of the bed during a nappy change.

Nearly had heart failure!

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 01/07/2014 18:35

When ds1 was 6moths I took him Christmas shopping and overloaded the buggy with bags. Ds was laying back asleep but not strapped in so when it tipped over I found him looking a bit pissed off in the hood of the pram.

BauerTime · 01/07/2014 18:36

It took me until the second time DS rolled off of our ridiculously high bed to realise that he shouldn't nap there unattended any more.

First time it happened i went to toddler group worrying about it and all of the other mums laughed and spent the whole session telling me similar stories about them and their kids. It happens to everyone!

TheLastThneed · 01/07/2014 18:37

Don't feel bad. This has happened to so many parents.

wishmynamewasdave · 01/07/2014 18:41

It's a parenting right of passage.
My first rolled off the bed onto a pillow which I'd put there - but rolled with such force she kept going and hit her head on the skirting board.
I'm still waiting for my 7 month old to do this... but he will Grin

HumphreyCobbler · 01/07/2014 18:43

DS2 fell off the sofa the other day because DS1 put him there to stop him eating the remote control.

Fakebook · 01/07/2014 18:44

Don't worry, we've all done it...some more than others (like me!): Dc3 and you'd think I'd have learnt but no. She was pulled off the sofa at 2 months by her big brother. Rolled off at 4 months. She fell on her nose last week (7 months now)...then she rolled off the bed a day later. I was absolutely terrified and felt horrible for hours with the nose and bed incident. Now I'm leaving her cushioned everytime I even leave her on the floor. It doesn't help she's a bum shuffler and will fall on her head backwards or forwards on her nose if she gets tired.

As long as they remain alert and seem well they're fine. Baby bones are really tougher than they seem.

This has made me feel so much better. He just shat in the bath and laughed at me so he must be feeling ok!

I think more babies have rolled off sofas/beds than not.

beccajoh · 01/07/2014 19:38

My daughter fell out of her pushchair when she was about 10/11 months (I forgot to strap her in). She whacked her head on the pavement but was ok.

TheAbominableWoman · 01/07/2014 19:41

I was rather smug that DD got to 10 months or so without falling off furniture. Since then, she's fallen off the sofa, a dining chair, the bed...it's a rite of passage.

Showy · 01/07/2014 20:11

DH had 5 week old ds in the sling, bent over to fix a blade on the lawnmower and dropped ds head first onto it.

Ohbollocksandballs · 01/07/2014 21:08

Showy - shit!!!! Was DS ok??

My very first day back at work DP, who was going to take over more childcare than me once I was back f/t, let DD roll off the bed. He only told me because she had a bruised face and cut nose, otherwise I swear he would have lied and said everything was fine. He did admit to much frantic Googling.

Wait until they get a bit older. Once they're toddlers you stand there watching them try the climbing frame, or sitting backwards on the sofa, and you think "any minute now..." and just sort of watch them go Grin

lrb1982 · 02/07/2014 03:23

DS1 slipped out of his high chair onto our stone floor at 6m and fell from the top to the bottom of the stairs at 12m. He was fine, I was utterly traumatised. Oh and when he was 4m DH tried to put him in the sling, lifted him up and hit his head hard on a beam. We were up all night watching him for signs of concussion. Don't worry you will have more panicked moments but hopefully not too many!

Lolly86 · 02/07/2014 03:29

DD fell forward off the sofa and hit her cheek on the floor at 6 months. She was fine if a little annoyed Smile
Shes now 8 months crawling around and occasionally banging into something...

Mckayz · 02/07/2014 03:32

Rolling off the sofa or bed is a rite of passage or something. It should be in the red book with first steps etc.

All 3 of mine have done it.

LittleLionMansMummy · 02/07/2014 09:33

Ds fell off the bed backwards when he was 10 months and suffering from an awful bout of tonsillitis. He also fell downstairs when he was 18 months (all the way from top to bottom), and again at 2 yo. Blush It's no myth that they pretty much bounce when they're little! It hurts us to see it more than it hurts them!

HedgehogHairbrush · 02/07/2014 09:37

It's how most parents find out their dc can roll!
