Just had possibly the most scary moment ever :(

I have a 17 week old DD, and at six o clock this morning, stopped breathing long enough for her sensor pad to go off.

I jumped out of bed and shouted her name, very unresponsive even when I blew into her face. She did start breathing and was obviously very unimpressed with her mummy screaming and blowing in her face.

Have had a good cry and have just about stopped shaking :(

Dr is going to check her out because, since yesterday she has been having episodes where she just stops what she's doing and stares into space for a minute or so. He doesn't think they are connected but cannot give me a definitive answer yet.

I don't know why I'm posting....just needed to get it out :( :(

Oh yellow, I know how scary these things are. Dd has episodes where she goes blue. You did the right thing! Tickling their feet is also meant to help them remember to breathe again, although dd is a bit too old for that now. I just go with panic Blush

Have you had a cup of tea/coffee?

Is someone with you?

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 05/06/2014 08:00

We were taught to flick ds quite hard on the foot - very scary for you, hope everything goes well with the doctor

yellowrose2728 · 05/06/2014 08:21

As soon as I knew she was ok I had tea with about five sugars!

She's on my chest sleeping at the moment - something she doesn't usually do, but I'm too scared to put her down :(:(

How terrifying. I know how scary it is I had to resuscitate my ds1 shortly after he came out of nicu, he did what your dd did, looked very unimpressed while I was hysterical Hmm he did grow out of the episodes.
Is there someone with you? Keep holding her, nothing to beat that for reassurance.

Dp has gone to work so my mum is coming to stay with us for the day.

I have no intention of putting her down a lot today :(

I think staring into space just means they're tired as mine does it frequently.

Glad your LO is ok.

scarletforya · 05/06/2014 08:52

Thank God she's ok Op.

Aww bless you - that must have been so scary for you Sad

Good that the doctor is seeing you and hopefully can reassure you. Your sensor mat must be reassuring too?

I'm glad you have someone with you today.

Have lots of Brew and Cake and cuddles with your dd

X

Something similar happened to me but I woke up and noticed ds wasn't breathing. After that he slept next to me. Naps were in the sling.

How does she sleep? Deeply? Does she have reflux?

choochootrain1 · 05/06/2014 15:11

How frightening, I'm so glad bubs is ok! poor you! I hope the dr has been able to offer some insight/reassurance

I don't know if this would be helpful or not as you did already say you use a sensor pad but with my DS I used something calleed a respisense which basically clipped to his nappy and I liked that it would "tickle" his tummy to annoy him into breathing before should that not work it then sounded a an alarm and I could use it in the car seat/pushchair/bouncy chair/shopping trolley etc whereas the pad just stayed in the cot...

I also found he slept lighter with a dummy - whether that was a good or bad thing I don't know, I think when I had him the advice was that the lighter they slept the less likely they were to 'forget' to breathe? but it doesnt seem to have done any long term harm and I felt reassured at the time.

he's 20 months now, and I still haven't parted with the monitor though I barely ever use it, I was a bit extra - I did respisense, babesafe mattress covers and dummies ;)

Am currently in hospital with dd hooked up to all sorts. She's had needles and heel pricks and it's been hell:( :(

Cannot get that image of her out of my head :( :( :(

Thinking of you.

wheretoyougonow · 05/06/2014 23:21

Hold on on their yellow. You are in the best place. Thanks

Spinaroo · 05/06/2014 23:24

Yellow, how awful for you- but they will get to the bottom if it, I'm sure xxx

Toothytwo · 05/06/2014 23:27

Thinking of you, must have been really upsetting.

yellowrose2728 · 05/06/2014 23:51

Her potassium and lactic (?) levels are too high and they want to wake my poor sleeping baby to take more bloods :( :(

Anyone around to hand hold as I'm feeling so alone and scared right now :(

Toothytwo · 05/06/2014 23:56

I'm here, no helpful advice, but can hand hold.

yellowrose2728 · 06/06/2014 00:08

Thank you - it's very much appreciated.

It's easy for me to say but she's in the best place. Sending you positive thoughts to get you through the night Flowers

Toothytwo · 06/06/2014 00:18

Guessing it's impossible to get any rest yourself? Hoping you can at least be comfortable, I know what hanging around in hospital can be like.

Crazy8 · 06/06/2014 00:25

Oh you poor thing. I'm still awake and am happy to hold your hand. I have 3 DC but have not experienced anything similar. I can't imagine how scary this must be. She is in the best place and getting great care so hopefully they will get to the bottom of it soon. Brew

BelleOfTheBorstal · 06/06/2014 00:26

I hope you get some answers soon.

MsJupiter · 06/06/2014 00:47

How scary. Sending best wishes to you.

Amybabygypsyqueen · 06/06/2014 00:52

Try not to worry about the pottasium it's often incorrect which is why they double check,, and her lactate may be up for a huge number of reasons from infection to stress try to get some sleep and let the nurses look after her, they will tell you if they are worried thinking of you both x

yellowrose2728 · 06/06/2014 01:09

I have a chair in small side room with her. There is no way I could sleep tonight :(

I just can't clear my head. I just want to scoop her up and cuddle her all night.
