At what age/ideal weight is best for grow bags! Ds1 is not even two weeks old but kicks off the blanket - worried he may get too cold, he was born at 36+5

Usually after 8/9lbs but they usually have a weight in them. If he is still too little, what about swaddling?

ohdearitshappeningtome · 26/04/2014 23:50

Tried that he doesn't like his arms in'! Could try swaddling
Without the arms

Mm that could work.

Alternatively, next do fleecy zip up sleepsuits that would be nice and snuggly with a long sleeved vest under. No blankets needed then.

Mothercare do a padded sleepsuit style of growing which might help!

I never knew there was a minimum weight for gross bags!! (first time mum too) and used them with dd from about 10 days old as she kept throwing the blankets off but also hated being swaddled - every time I settled her in hospital some helpful nurse re did the swaddling and she would scream blue murder again!!

Mini me spent three days in an incubator on nicu so wasn't really swaddled and that's probably why he doesn't like his hands tucked in!

Anyway thank you for replying

We were grobag from about a week for same reason. DS is all snugly in his. Stays in it to BF and when picked up to settle/soothe him.

ZingWatermelon · 27/04/2014 03:46

yes to swaddling with arms out or grobags.

or just glue things to him? Wink

mrsagarlick · 27/04/2014 04:02

We were told at ante natal classes not to use them till 6 months! We have some that were given to us by SIL so might give them a go as we are really struggling to get 2 month old to settle in moses basket

I guess they wouldn't sell them if they weren't safe...

You can use merino wool sleeping bags from 7lb but tbh the important thing is not how much they weigh but if their head is big enough to not slip through. I'd get a sleeping bag and see what the fit is like, you'll use it at some point anyway.

The merino bags are lovely and reduce the overheating risk because they're so breathable, but they are expensive.

Have you tried a bundler? It looks like an old fashioned nightgown but has a drawstring on the bottom. We had a couple and they were ace for changing nappies in the night as well.

John Lewis have them.

No idea how to do links as I'm on my phone but try this http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-baby-bundler-white-one-size/p230591844
