Would you give a toddler curry?

I have a 16 month old DD and I wanted to know if it is ok to start giving her very mild curry?

I just don't want her to get an upset tummy.

Yep I would, and have. Dd has never liked it though ds is 1 and eats anything. As long as it's home made it'll be fine. You can always mix some yoghurt in if you like yours spicier.

curlew · 18/01/2014 16:05

People all over the world do! Go ahead- it's fun giving the new things to try.

grabaspoon · 18/01/2014 16:05

DC have always had what we had from six months, I just cooked without salt. So, yeah, they had curry from an early age with yougurt added to their portions to keep it from being overly spicy. Never caused either DC a problem!

TerrariaMum · 18/01/2014 16:06

If you want to start her off easily, I do a mild daal or what passes for daal in my house- onions, lentils, one spoon of mild curry paste, and water.

Also, a simple rice with a bit of cumin seed, peas, and a clove or two of garlic.

My 9 month old loves these and her tummy is fine.

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 18/01/2014 16:06

I did - mix it with yogurt if you're worried it is too spicey.

Charotte31 · 18/01/2014 16:06

Yes my DD loves it! I make my own or get an organic jar of ready made.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 18/01/2014 16:06

Ds eats (mild) curry at home and nursery. It'll be fine.

Figster · 18/01/2014 16:06

DS has had mild curry from about 1 now he has tikka and bhuna and Chinese style curry.

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 16:06

Yes. All of mine had it from weaning age.

Artandco · 18/01/2014 16:06

Of course, it's what half the world eats!

A couple of years ago We took our then 16 month old and 8 week old on a month long trip to Vietnam. Eldest loved the spicy food and happily ate whatever was on offer. However we have always eaten a varied cuisine so he was weaned on everything at 6/7 months

Annabel Karmel has a mild fruity curry recipe if you wanted to start mild if they have never eaten

StarsAboveYou · 18/01/2014 16:06

My DS won't eat curry but loves pakora and spiced onions.Grin

He is 22months.

If your DD doesn't like it she will let you know.

capsium · 18/01/2014 16:06

Yes, I think it should be OK, if it is mild. I would not put any chilli in though but a bit of garlic, ginger, coriander and cumin should be fine. There are even recipes about.

Yes at least once a week to over a hundred of them.

If your making it from scratch or a jar try adding apricots to it. Makes it more sweet.

AryaofhouseSnark · 18/01/2014 16:07

Hell yeah, dts were enjoying curry when they were babies.
Like teacakes suggested, make yours and add cream or yoghurt to cool it down.

WannaSplitAPineapple · 18/01/2014 16:07

My DS's nursery has a variety of curries on their menu. Neither my husband or I are curry lovers so we don't have it at home but nursery says its one of his fav meals. He's been eating it since about 12 months.

docpeppa · 18/01/2014 16:07

Cheers I'll give her some Smile She has a peanut allergy, so I'd only ever give her homemade curry. Think I'm too apprehensive with stuff like that because of the allergy, but I'll give it a go!

Thank you

Yes I would/did. Very mild of course. No tummy trouble.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 18/01/2014 16:08

My incredibly fussy blighters adored Ella's Chicken and Mango curry and quite liked the Ella's Thai as well.
Less keen on my home made versions Hmm but hey ho.
Was very handy to be able to give them rice seeing as they won't eat pasta and there is only so much you can do with potatoes!

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 18/01/2014 16:08

Just make sure they're not wearing clothes that are pale colours or particularly special Wink

PiratePanda · 18/01/2014 16:10

A billion Indians can't be wrong....

Start with something mild and easy to eat like dal, and if its too spicy add yoghurt.

matana · 18/01/2014 16:33

Presumably many toddlers in India do, so yes why not?!

Ds eats very mild curry like korma. He's gone off it recently but used to love it!

weeblueberry · 18/01/2014 16:45

DD absolutely loves curry and she's 8 months :)

Oblomov · 18/01/2014 16:46

Of course. I did. Both ds's love a curry.

darkdays · 18/01/2014 16:48

Dts had curry since six months, they like it hot too, no upset tummies.
