Can anyone recommend a forward facing car seat. My baby is 9 months, so we're starting to research seats.
Any recommendations grateful

We're about to buy a Hauck Varioguard which is £150 from Tesco. It has Isofix base and can be rear facing or forward facing. We will keep the kiddo (now 19 months) rear facing as long as possible having done a LOT of research.

Can I just jump in and ask a question aimed at KongKickeroo?

I am looking for an ERF seat for my son. I currently have a Besafe izi go which I find very cramped for him as it is so padded. I was originally looking at Besafe for his next seat but have been put off. Do you find your Besafe izi combi x3 is roomy looking or is it small compared to Britax / Hauck etc.

Thank you. As a person who is lazy about researching things, it is really useful to have nerds to talk to :-) Not sure why some people on the thread seemed to give you a hard time for just passing on your advice. x

Sorry to jump on but does anyone know where you can find the results of tests on specific erf seats? I've bought the brittax dualfix and would love to know if it's safe!!

Hi maybe im being a bit thick but could anyone advise, I totally understand the rear facing seat benefits but im considering buying a vw transporter and will be putting the seats in a conference style way (facing each other) so if I used a rear facing seat on the seats facing backwards would that then mean im basically making the seat forward facing and less safe? Mothercare staff were baffled and couldn't give me a genuine answer. My son also gets so hot in his rf seat as the aircon blows straight to the back of the seat so hes always sweaty, has anyone else had this problem? I even tried the Mothercare fan but it stopped working after first use (apparently loads get returned)

I would check the websites of the rf car seat manufacturers, as they should have a list of what cars the seats will fit, and how they should be fitted, or if not you could email the manufacturers for advice.

There is a company called Securatots who specialise in rear facing seats - the website has lots of useful advice. They have a showroom which if you are near you could go to for advice.

To me, it sounds wrong to put a rear-facing seat forwards, due to how the seats are IYSWIM. But I would definitely want to know exactly what the manufacturer of the seat recommends.

Does anyone know what the actual increased chance of death/severe injury is between rear and forward facing?

How many car journeys could you cut out to obtain a similar risk reduction?

I find attitude to risk fascinating - how many genuinely essential car journeys do you make? Could you sell the car and rely on public transport? Would that make a real reduction in risk?

I actually don't have the answers but it's another way of looking at it isn't it? It's pertinent to me as I don't have a car but my child will be in friends' and family's cars occasionally. Best would be to have a £400 car seat to move between them but is my child safer overall in a cheap seat on occasional journeys than a child in a really good seat driven several times a week?

I do love how these arguments become quite passionate - however, its not about opinion, its about physics. Therefore ERF wins.

As for being able to "see where they are going" - how is facing the back of the front passenger seat any better than facing the front of the back seat?

As it happens my son can see out the rear windscreen very happily. He is now 18 months old in a BeSafe Izi Combi and as the months go by he is happier and happier in the car. Never cries any more. Used to scream loads in his Maxi Cosi as a 6 month old.

Anyone who is opposed to ERF in any way needs their head examining. It's like being against seatbelts, or ABS brakes. Illogical.
