Farley's rusks in a babies bottle?

Hi all, I asked this on someone else's thread, but I wanted to get more opinions/anecdotes please?!

DD is 8 weeks old and DH was considering we should put a rusk in her last bottle (11pm) to help her go through the night.

We aren't doing this yet, and may not do it, but both our parents did it with us and our siblings.

First off, some of the replies on this post is just rude, she's a new mum! Give the poor woman a break, she's asking for advice, don't judge and don't respond unless your comments have substance.

Secondly, I know its hard but babies wake through the night, that's just what they do. I wouldn't give the baby solids until atleast 6 months old (26 weeks, but if your baby is formula fed, perhaps you could try changing milk to extra hungry during night feeds because it stays in babies stomach longer. But definitely speak to your health visitor first.

(Ignoring that it's a zombie thread but I'm rising to the bait) Proudmummy- I'm guessing that you don't care that your putting your child at risk of choking or allergies? You almost sound proud that you're putting your child at risk. How odd (and selfish and idiotic).

(Proudmummy, you can clearly do what you like with your children. But it is not right to recommend something that is actually dangerous and a choking hazard to other parents. If you want to give a thicker formula there are commercial hungry baby formulas that do the same thing but are safe. These rusks also contain lots of added sugar, and obviously gluten, which shouldn't be given to babies under 6 months.)

Um I didn't bottle feed so may be totally off the mark but I seem to think in the back of my head that its a huge nono to make the hole in the teat bigger. I can't remember why though - splitting?

All these mothers slating tou should be ashamed of themselves for their responses..i know this was a couple of years ago now but still needs to be said... This woman was asking for advice and all she got in return was abuse and sarcasm! Jeez! Some babies can be weaned earlier, i must agree 8 weeks is too early as babies digestive system hasn't yet completely developed, but if you find your lo is hungrier try baby rice at 4 months old. Thats what i'm going to do with my 3month old. I just want to wait until the appropriate time so i cause no harm to her, then i will gradually wean her on to baby jars. Ignore the people who call you ridiculous or stupid, at some point in life they didnt have a clue what the answer to this question was so they ahould not judge. Hth :) x

Years ago this was considered a ok thing to do, I was advised to do it by my health visitor, dd was around 8 weeks, was always hungry, never settled and always crying, we did try it, it was just a tiny amount but it made no difference to her crying and being hungry, she had no ill effects, did not choke or have any allergic reaction.

The advice now is not to introduce any food until 6 months and there are good reasons for this.

I have been in your shoes OP and it was hard work with a hungry unsettled baby that rarely slept for more than 2 hours, just keep going with the milk, it will get easier.

Can NOT understand why people feel the need to write rude comments.
Personally I did it.
With All my kids and there just fine, no choking no obsity not a single problem.
I say go with your gut.
Putting a 1/4 of a rusk in a bottle isn't a problem.
Just make sure it's melted properly and your baby WONT choke if your sitting there feeding her.
I also started weening at3 months and once again no problems....
Sometimes going by the book isn't the best.
Sick and tired of up tight mums on this website it's for advise and support not to be nasty!!!!!!!!
