Have you any bad experiences with prams?

Hi,

I'm a 2nd year student looking to design a new pram, that will hopefully solve the problems I imagine all you parents/carers may unfortunately have dealt with. Although, I don't have first hand experience or any for that matter so I would appreciate it if you could share any problems you have encountered. Has there been any great features from your present or past pram(s) that you feel are vital to pursue?

Thanks!

A hood that actually provides shade would be good. As would a large shopping basket. A small, light pushchair for 6mo+ that can fully recline would be useful too. A cup holder for the baby's and parent's drink would help. Something that prevents stronger toddlers opening the clip and escaping would also come in handy.

I have uppababy vista, its almost perfect, other than the rumble seat for toddler when you have new baby doesnt fitbon with lie flat cot and will onlybtake second chikd up to 15kgs, ds at 2yrs 2m is 16kg which is on the higher edge of normal but not off the chart.
Other things to consider would be ease of fold and size when folded, freestanding when folded also good to save storage space. Lightweight v important so easier to push, and tyres which absorb impact but dont get punctures (see uppababy?)

thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! :)

The original Mountain buggy, was pretty near perfect.

If the modest versions with lockable swivel front wheels and smaller folding are as rigid, then perfection already exists!

NoComet · 15/10/2013 10:09

Modern versions.

Oh and I totally agree, a light weight 6 months plus umbrella folding buggy for when you need your car boot or to take a bus that has a bigger wheels and some suspension would be brilliant.

Famzilla · 15/10/2013 22:21

A travel system that didn't take the skin of your fingers off when you changed seats would be great. And one whose breaks don't jam when you're halfway home, resulting in you dragging like a wheelbarrow for the other half.

Basically not the cosatto giggle.

Although we do have a sheepskin liner which is lovely. Good ventilation or summat.

RigglinJigglin · 16/10/2013 08:52

Yy to Big basket, bigger wheels and suspension!

Brilliant idea on the roller raincover. Could also have a sun shade one too as the umbrellas that go on buggys are bloody pointless.

Some kind of easily compactable contraption that can hold a car seat.... Getting the full buggy out everytime is a pain in the arse.

I imagine it like a sack truck or telescopic pole on wheels that you could just have in the car.

Not a buggy mind but its the most common groan I hear, I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't agree.

SomethingAboutNothing · 16/10/2013 09:51

I have the Brittax agile 3, which is great. Apart from DS ends up slouched right down when sat up in it.

So something that keeps the child in a comfortable sitting position would be good.

FaithTheVampireSlayer · 16/10/2013 19:37

We have a baby style oyster and it's great. It has a roller sunshade on the stroller (zips in near the feet). Easy to fold is essential. Easy to clean would be good!

Scunnilingus · 16/10/2013 20:16

Parent facing seat!!! So many pushchairs face outwards and the ones that face towards the rear are so so expensive! Big shopping trolley, wider and longer seats for kids on the 99th centile or above! (I've had two very tall and big babies/ toddlers) Large wheels, folds easily. Basically we want it ALL!!!! Wink

Scunnilingus · 16/10/2013 20:19

ALso I HATE the quinny zapp Xtra. Three wheels, all far too small, gets stuck going down kerbs, in potholes on cobbles, tiny shopping basket. Looks good though so I was seduced in the shop but out and about it was so impractical. If you're doing 3 wheels make sure they are big and air filled tyres.

BettyandDon · 16/10/2013 20:21

Yes when I was unable to fold it and get it back in my car (with a screeching newborn waiting to go home).

It was the first time I'd used it and it was second hand, so the catch was a bit tricky. Luckily a kind lady saw me out her window and came to help.

stargirl1701 · 16/10/2013 20:23

I love my Stokke Xplory. I love the height but I appreciate the ability to lower the seat. I much prefer parent facing but I appreciate that it can face both ways. It runs so smoothly and is incredibly manoeuvrable. It's not too heavy to lift into the car but it doesn't feel too flimsy. The retractable handle makes such a difference when squeezing into a right space on the bus. The winter kit is fantastic for cold weather enabling DD to sleep outdoors in all weather. The shopping bag is a reasonable size and the change bag is too.

I would like the front wheels to lock and I wish the rain cover attached to the hood permanently so I could just pull it down.

BettyandDon · 16/10/2013 20:23

My second buggy the donkey has rain covers that just do not fit either- they are just too tight.

It was a gift so I am still grateful to have it though.

YBR · 17/10/2013 13:05

Some mechanism to make it possible to carry a shopping basket round a supermarket as well push the pushchair? Or is that just me?
(Our current model is impossible to stear with one hand)

closingeveryhour · 17/10/2013 16:33

I really want something like a baby jogger citi mini gt which would go parent facing. Basically the perfect buggy would be like a baby jogger versa GT but a bit lighter and smaller, with all of the following:
-pneumatic or foam tyres
-big basket
-reversible seat, can go parent facing
-folds down (not umbrella fold)
-enough padding for baby
-tight turning circle, narrow and manoeuvrable
-can remove seat and add a carseat directly to frame or a carrycot
-additional moon on stick please ;)

FaithTheVampireSlayer · 17/10/2013 16:34

Oh yes to be able to attach a shopping trolley!

Thomas99 · 24/10/2013 09:26

Yet again thanks for all your feedback! We hope to get more great answers to cover as much as possible in our design! :)
