So The child is 5 ( not my child), sits there eating lunch then breaks wind and starts giggling, What do you say?? If anything after all they are 5, but on the same hand manners have to be taught do they not?? A bit undecided if i should react or not, and if so how??

My mother (RIP) was completely deaf in one ear and her favourite joke was 'why do farts smell?' Answer 'so the deaf can join in the fun'. She could barely tell this without weeping with laughter.

Yes farts were-and are- definitely funny in our family, probably because we knew it was, and is, probably a bit naughty, and that 50% people don't think they are funny.

I think there are far worse things at the dinner table-like not sitting down as a family, presence of mobile phones, reaching across people etc

I am 51 and terribly childish, but probably quite fun to be with.

The proper way to behave in this situation is for the rest of the family to join in and play an impromptu game of Top Trumps.
Isn't it?

5 is not much more than a baby and at this age children aren't really able to hold a fart in until a more appropriate moment comes when they can let it out. So you need to make allowances I think.
