All tights too big for baby dd

Any suggestions where to get smaller tights?

The feet and ankles in all tights are just too baggy and look very silly.

She's 6 weeks. 10lbs but even first size are baggy on her.

Why does she need rights in this weather. By the time it gets cold enough for tights she will have grown

3birthdaybunnies · 10/08/2013 09:00

She's 6 weeks so probably not too worried about looking silly yet. Maybe try babygro/ leggings though in this weather maybe too hot for anything.

SavoyCabbage · 10/08/2013 09:01

I think you will struggle to get tights that are a good fit on a six week old baby. Maybe ditch the tights till she's older.

I got premature baby tights off our local market for DD at that age (autumn baby)

MortifiedAdams · 10/08/2013 09:06

do you live in the UK? It really isnt tights weather.

Leggings over a vest was dds staple at that age.

cupcake78 · 10/08/2013 09:06

It's chilly some days and she has alot of summer dresses that she could wear with tights and long sleeve vests/cardigan. Socks lead to cold knees.

If you are really struggling inbox me your address and I will post you the pair I got for my dd. they are not the nicest in the world but they have only been worn twice and are cream. They are not wool so better for this weather

HenriettaPye · 10/08/2013 10:00

I know exactly how you feel- last year i was the same! I got baby premature tights for my dd on eBay (they were from an ebay shop and were new) DD was born at 7lb 10 and I got the 5-7lb ones and they were still quite big- probably fitted her properly once she was around 9lb!

Aldwick · 10/08/2013 10:53

Try mothercare tiny baby range

PearlyWhites · 10/08/2013 10:56

I doubt she will get cold knees in August , I really would not bother with tights.

Pachacuti · 10/08/2013 11:00

Look for leggings + socks rather than tights.

OutragedFromLeeds · 10/08/2013 11:02

It's probably a sign that she's too small to be wearing tights at that age tbh. Babygrow is fine if it's chilly. Comfort first.

Clargo55 · 10/08/2013 11:10

What about the leggings with integral feet? They sell them in mothercare. DD could wear them with the dresses if you really want.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 10/08/2013 11:35

Goodness, really wouldn't faff around with tights at that age. Or dresses for that matter.

i had the same problem when dd was born, a friend gave me this tip:
put a pair of socks ontop of the tights :) it looks ok and hides that the tights are too small :)

Llareggub · 12/08/2013 11:04

So glad I had boys and never had to faff around with tights. Babygros all the way.

BehindLockNumberNine · 12/08/2013 11:26

I really really would not be faffing around with tights and dresses at that age. She has the rest of her childhood to be wearing warm itchy tights and dresses will ride up underneath her in the pram / carseat etc.

At this age it was babygros all the way for both of mine, with a lightweight cardi for chillier days (and socks underneath the babygro on colder days)

Nicknamegrief · 12/08/2013 11:31

Leggings or baby leg warmers.

The upto one month sizes should be fine as they usually max out at 10lb.
Wikinsons do them.

Try gap for leggings with feet.

Eletheomel · 12/08/2013 12:10

I have two boys so managed to avoid the whole tights issue - but personally I hate wearing tights (always feel they're falling down - used to have to wear another pair of pants on top (superman style) to keep them up) so I'd never put them on a baby.

Nothing wrong with leggings and tops (but I admit I'm not a girly girl :-)

My son is 10 weeks and he spends nearly everyday in either sleepsuits or rompers (if its warm)

Miaow everyone knows mumsnet babies wear babygros exclusively until the age of 17 at least Wink

rubyanddiamond · 12/08/2013 12:28

I have always found that I need to buy rights a size or two down to fit my DD! H&M is the best place I found, I think they have a 0-2 month size which is on the small side. Agree that leggings make a good substitute if tights are too big.

BehindLockNumberNine · 13/08/2013 13:31

Actually, Miaouw, the lack of tights in the small size the OP requires would indicate that tights are not thought of for babies this young. That plus the fact that there are more comfortable outfits out there means OP is given suggestions for alternatives as none of us have seen teeny tiny tights!

Nothing to do with our sense of what OP's baby should be wearing.

Unless the idea behind this thread was that we all started knitting small tights?? Wink
