Anyone have chickenpox in SW19/18

Hi there

I have a two year old and am starting full time work in a month. It would be lovely for him to get the chicken pox out of the way if anyone has it?

And yes I did look into the vaccine. There is too much mus-information as the UK authorities aren't advocating it. I don't feel comfortable wit the risks.

Thanks!

Stefanie

Didn't realise this would be such an emotive issue....

Just to point out that we have 7 year old DD who has not ever knowingly had chicken pox despite being ultra exposed (not on purpose though) by cousin and classmates over the years....

OP, you could probably guarantee that even if you were to expose him in the month you have off, your DS won't get it....that's Sod's Law.....

Faverolles · 04/08/2013 17:47

A friend of dd's was in intensive care for nearly a month with complications from cp.
Luckily she came out fine.
Have you factored in possible complications to fit in with your work plans?

Sorry, it " is not necessarily just an itchy rash".

From memory (I did my research about a year ago) Soupy, it's thought people who have had chicken pox need to be regularly exposed to chicken pox virus to keep up their immunity and leave the virus dormant (ie not developing into Shingles)... and that if we immunise children this will prevent some of this exposure.

The evidence for this is thin at best.

My daughter was so ill with it that she was in hospital for over a week on a drip. It was quite honestly the worst week of my life,. Her little body is covered in deep pitted scars. I wish i had paid for the vaccine, its give n readily in the states, i don't understand why its not offered here...:(

IneedAyoniNickname · 04/08/2013 17:52

gazzalw my ds2 (7) is ecactly the same. Nearly all.of year 1 came down with cp earlier this year, but not him oh no!

Ds1 had cp when.ds2 was 3 weeks old, he never came out in spots, but ended up very ill in hospital.(ds2 that is) The drs have never confirmed what he had, but its a possibility that it was cp.

'may increase the risk of other non-vaccinated people getting shingles later in life.

Give you can only get shingles if you have had chicken pox, how does that work...?'

soup because the non-vaccinated get the pox, which means they can get shingles. Everytime you're exposed to pox you reinforce your immunity so most people don't get shingles. If there is herd immunity i.e. most people don't get the pox, those who have had it become more vulnerable to shingles because they have the dormant virus, but no chance to top-up their immunity.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 04/08/2013 17:54

Not sure what is worse.

The fact you want your child to get sick so you can work it around work or the fact you are asking strangers off the internet to come breathe on your 2 year old.

What are you expecting?

"Oh I am in your area and my son has CP, I will send him over to rub his self all over your child''

there is a poster on mnet had chickenpix recently. he got seriously ill and now has disabilities, i suggedt you read the thread his mum did op and then you may change your cavalier attitude.

TeamSouthfields · 04/08/2013 17:57

Mrsdevere ...... That comment was out of order!!!!

QuietNinjaTardis · 04/08/2013 17:57

My mum exposed me and and my sister to chickenpox when we were kids. Neither of us caught it. I got it from my nephew when I was 19. Yes I was unwell but I would never deliberately expose my children to chicken pox as I know how severe complications can be.
A friends little girl was hospitalised with breathing difficulties when she caught chickenpox recently. What would you do if that happened? Complications wouldn't necessarily fit in with your timetable and you would have the added bonus of feeling like a complete cunt as well.
Don't do it.

Thanks outraged :) I wasn't terribly clear. I think because my brain was processing "WTAF? This woman is nuts!!! What the frick research has she done that's suggested this is in any way a good idea?" and it makes it very hard to concentrate on being coherent.

QuietNinjaTardis · 04/08/2013 18:00

I don't think mrsd said anything out of order.

PearlyWhites · 04/08/2013 18:02

Mrs d didn't say anything out of order the op is " out of order"

OMG

Why on earth would you do this? DDs face is covered in pitted scars all over her forhead, on her cheek and chin. If I had known about a vaccine 11 years ago I would have had her vaccinated. She was 5 when she caught it, so still a young child.

antsypants · 04/08/2013 18:06

Thought I had seen it all Shock

tethersend · 04/08/2013 18:07

I have vaccinated mine.

A vaccine for shingles has now been developed, but is not being rolled out due to cost I believe.

Perhaps OP should parade through Wimbledon Village wearing a sandwich board to fulfil her request.
