How do you know they're ready for a booster seat? Thanks!

about 18 months for my two - moved to a booster seat at the table

dufflefluffle · 19/06/2013 11:42

My 4.5 year old still uses a Tripp Trapp - one of the best baby buys.

Ds age 3 has a booster seat at the table, but at grandparents he has high chair, he's too small to reach the table

18 months for both of mine. They then knelt up to table on normal dining room chairs.

About 2, no booster, just straight on to normal chair.

OddBodd · 19/06/2013 16:42

About 18 months for my DS1, he went into a booster chair because he hated the high chair and we were desperate. Turned out he hated the booster too which makes sense! DS2 is still in his high chair at 17 months and no plans to change yet.

tourdefrance · 19/06/2013 16:50

Ds2 still in high chair at just 3 but the table flips back so he can get in and out by himself. Really wish we had got a Trip Trap as dreading him going in a proper chair at the latest before school. Not enough chairs already.

mejon · 19/06/2013 17:17

I've just taken ours to the charity shop - DD2 is 2.4 but hasn't used it for a couple of months and was climbing in and out of it (so no use at all really!) for a good few months before that. She just sits/stands on the chair at the table - booster seat wouldn't contain her Hmm.

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/06/2013 18:49

DS was nearly three, otherwise he would run around and not eat his dinner. DD is 21 months and would be fine on a chair now but she has a fear of heights when it suits her and won't entertain the idea at the moment Hmm

Went from bumbo on floor to toddler chair and table to real chair all by age 2. We didn't have enough space for a high chair.

CreatureRetorts · 19/06/2013 21:24
  1. My dd at 18 months is far too small for a booster. Ds asked to sit straight on a normal chair from 3, he doesn't like boosters.
Smartiepants79 · 19/06/2013 21:24

Depends on size and trustworthiness of the child. My DD was about 2.3. She has a booster seat most of the time but can sit on a chair if needed.
If your DC is tall and can be trusted to sit vaugely still and not cover everywhere with food then any time around 2 ish.

lola88 · 19/06/2013 22:39

16mo DS is very independent and I find he actually sits better when it's through his own choice rather than because he's trapped in so we are going to try to big table and chairs from tomorrow he does it at my sisters for dinner so I'm sure he can do it at home too.

We have a big high chair which was fine in our old house but no space for it in the new one and i'm sick to death of putting it up and down!

manchestermummy · 20/06/2013 11:17

11 months Blush. She hated the highchair and refused to eat while she was sitting in it. She's 2.7 now and has been sitting on normal chairs for about 6 months.

I'm sure my MIL would say I'm negligent.

lola88 · 20/06/2013 20:08

Just to let you know our first day of no high chair went very well DS ate well and stayed on his chair with some reminds.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/06/2013 20:12

DD2 has just developed an aversion to her antilop this last week aged 17 months. She likes to sit on the big chairs like her sister.

DeathMetalMum · 20/06/2013 20:24

Dd is 2.5 never had a high chair but still in her booster seat (with try on still) but pushed up to the table. The tray catches most of the crumbs which is why it is still on. She also will sit strapped in the seat to do painting/playdough/felt tips and other activities at the table.

Raaraathenoisybaby · 20/06/2013 23:12

Dd1 was 3 when I finally let her sit on a chair BUT its mostly been because we eat at a breakfast bar and I was scared she would fall off the stools. She was in a me too for a long time. I have been berated on here for having a 3 year old in a highchair but it kept her at the table! She liked it anyway Grin

JennyjENjENJenny · 26/06/2017 14:07

my 5 year old still uses one at dinner timeBlush

Camomila · 26/06/2017 15:30

We've just moved DS (14months) to a booster seat at the table (only £8 in Tesco!). He's much happier eating like the big people. I think the bar between his legs on the high chair was getting on his nerves and he kept trying to stand up.

Ferrynice · 26/06/2017 15:42

My DD has her own little table and chair for breakfast and snacks, then for lunch and tea when we eat together she has a booster seat, she came out of her high chair just before she was one.

switswoo81 · 26/06/2017 20:27

2 and half year old still in Tripp trapp has no desire to get out of it. Definitely one of our best buys ,do painting and colouring at the table in it too .
