How do you entertain a 12 week old???

OK, I'm not meant to leave BabyDragon under a babygym for fear of flattening her perfect head and it's physically impossible to carry her around in the sling all day. How on earth am I meant to be entertaining her?? I can't remember! With DS1 it didn't seem to be an issue, DS2 got lugged around all of DS1s activities and now, nearly 5 years since I last had a 12 week old to entertain I'm utterly clueless :o

I think DSs both spent a lot of time asleep but BabyDragon is a completely different kettle of soup.

If no one comes up with any ideas I'll be offering her up for sale again...

I used to put my dds in those seats, you know, bugger can't remember the name, the z-shape thing that looks a bit like a deck chair, so she was kinda upright and could see what I was doing.

They loved watching the washing machine going.

I used to put mine in a rocker chair with a baby gym (fisher price piano thing) in front of them.

And laid out on the floor under baby gym.......Wink

madmarchhare · 03/05/2006 12:07

CBeebies surely?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2006 12:08

Tummy time is a disaster. Throws up within 30 seconds and then wipes her head in it :o

I do have a rocker but she sits in it staring at me accusingly as if to say "you're neglecting me, mother."

Becky loves her bouncy chair

Nemo1977 · 03/05/2006 12:08

DD tends to either go in her bouncer, in her playnest or in her swing...oh and sometimes I do entertain her myselfWink

Greensleeves · 03/05/2006 12:09

water pat mat/activity play mat/music/singing?

Shocked at suggestion of CBeebies for 12 week old

SoupDragon · 03/05/2006 12:09

Tried her with a Baby Einstein video I picked up from a charity shop for £1. Unfortunately I couldn't contain my laughter when a hand appeared from off screen dancing a toy starfish in time with the music.

Or, just carry her round in a sling Grin

Belo · 03/05/2006 12:11

I had a baby yoga video which I used to do with both dds. They used to smile all the way through it and then sleep afterwards. Happy baby, happy mummy!

Nemo1977 · 03/05/2006 12:11

oh I do the sling bit LOTS aswell.
DD is 19wks and currently trying to get her DB toy cars just out of reach on the floor..pmsl

Greensleeves · 03/05/2006 12:11

I used to put him in a front sling and then just do a mad running commentary on the various boring things I was doing/sing/caterwaul at him until he fell asleep Grin

katzg · 03/05/2006 12:11

baby massage both my dd's loved this

Feistybird · 03/05/2006 12:13

bouncer, that's the name.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2006 12:14

RE the sling - I do carry her round in it but she now weighs over a stone!

(thanks for the suggestions btw)

I do feel more reassured that I@ve not actually missed some essential part of entertaining a small baby. It'll be so much easier when she can sit up unaided (she says hopefully)

I found this stage with both of mine quite hard. I was never sure what to do.

suzywong · 03/05/2006 12:32

oh yes the washing machine is a top trump

and of course there's always the Teletubbies

bundle · 03/05/2006 12:33

bubbles?
shopping?

Rach69 · 03/05/2006 12:49

Baby gym every time - best on the floor but a bouncy chair/carseat/bumbo will also work. I think this flat head stuff is daft, how many kids with flat heads do you know? my ds3 is 14 weeks and has never slept facing the ceiling? He either has his head one side or t'other which he is perfectly capable of swivelling - same with the baby gym, they don't just look straight up but also around, I always lengthen the dangly bits to make them reachable and add different toys.

Rach69 · 03/05/2006 12:50

I mean a chair with the baby gym, although ds3 does love looking at his toes sat in his bumbo, we are talking 30mins entertainment versus 5 mins!

CorrieDale · 03/05/2006 12:51

Singing and tickling games? We had a Fisher Price aquarium bouncer that had bubbles and such like. DS quite liked it.

Squarer · 03/05/2006 12:56

I think I posted something along these lines months ago as DS was driving me insane - loads of people came up with bouncy chair but I hadn't quite appreciated what one was and just kept putting DS in his rocker chair and wondering what all the fuss was about when he screamed.
When I did eventually catch onto the fact that a bouncy chair was a totally different kettle of, er, soup my whole life changed!
Can't recommend one enough. In the end DS snapped 4 bouncy chairs with his exertions. He would have spent hours happily bouncing if I'd have let him!
