Moving to Australia.....

We are currently applying for a visa and are moving to Aussie next year, we have a ds1 who is 5 a ds2 who is 3 and a dd who is 7 months, how big an impact do you think it will have for them, does it not affect them much as they are only young, ds1 has been asking a few questions recently and by the time we go out there he will be just turned 7, is there a good age to make such a large move? has anyone ever made such a big move and had problems with their kids? do i need to prepare them for it sooner or later? any help/info would be very much appreciated Smile xx

Yes it sounds like teh culprit, the chicken
The pharmacist at my local pharmacy is a gorgeous Caribbean bloke, I love talking to him just to hear his accent, I miss Afro Caribbean people, they are so thin on the ground here and just listening to them talk reminds me of home.

ohhhh - well finally I can take the damn tablet and go to bed.

arfishymeau · 08/05/2006 11:34

Guffaws. I did a big SNORT at the clap (in an entirely sympathetic way, of course).

The pharmacist & till girl will have been discussing this all day - "and she seemed so respectable". Reminds me of the time when I went in to get my first packet of the pill, handed over my prescription, scarlet, and then realised it was my best friend's mum behind the counter.

How are you feeling now? Food poisoning is awful - got it once badly in Belgium. I was showing off my French and ordered 'Steak Americaine'. Despite the waiter desperately trying to let me know that it was raw minced beef in raw egg, to which I said 'oui oui, je sais' I completely misunderstood and spent the next 4 days in agony, confined to the hotel room toilet.

SW - your day sounds great! Wine, wildlife & chocolate. Bliss.

Am also a big fan of witchery. Is anybody going to get one of those high belts or is that just being a fashion victim?

once I got the antibiotics in me - much improved although still a little light headed and tired but being able to keep down nothing but hydralyte ice blocks for three days will take its toll. It truly is terrible and I can fully appreciate how easily people end up being hospitalised.

I had to go to that chemist today to get a script filled for dd1 - hoping he would be there and see me much improved and I could tell him it was food poisoning... AND - he has got a new job working in their new pharmacy [laugh]

eidsvold · 08/05/2006 12:50

don't know why dh thought it was so funny - well he didn't after I told him - he would be my likely source of infection re the clap - suddenly not sooo funny Grin

Glad you're feeling a bit better. Real food poisoning is like the flu - everybody says a cold is the flu, but when you really get proper flu it it's truly awful. Hope you can move onto real food soon. Are you going to have stiff words with the restaurant?

Can't believe your pharmacist moved away before you could clear your name too. Guffaws at DP suddenly realising the implications of your meds.

We could do with an Aussie swap for a bit of light relief. Might be a bit limited with who gave what to whom though Grin

eidsvold · 08/05/2006 13:39

dh think it might be a bit hard to prove - if there were other cases yes - but am contemplating writing a letter about the crap service which led to said food poisoning... as no one else in the house succumbed - just glad the dds had their sangers and bits and I did not give them a bit ( as you do)

eidsvold · 08/05/2006 13:40

he was a brilliant pharmacist too... not too far away but this pharmacy is in the same set of shops as the GP - hardly going to drive to a different one am I.

arfishymeau · 08/05/2006 16:09

Pharmacists seem to be so much better in Oz than in the UK. I get the impression that a lot own their own business which means they give a much better service.

I've certainly been really impressed and I can understand why you'd be fed up if yours moved away (even despite the whole clap thing ).

ahhhhh, another glorious morning here, down to the river again for cake and coffee with my (only) friend while our littlies paddled in the clear calm river and the silvery sandy beach.

Where did Helenemjay go?

fairyfly · 09/05/2006 06:49

sigh

suzywong · 09/05/2006 07:06

poor your brother

yes you do see spiders, but you must train your husband to capture them with a jam jar and a piece of cardboard.

And as for the exceedingly poisonous jelly fish

Helenemjay · 09/05/2006 12:01

You do also see cute stuff. I love seeing the rainbow lorikeets in the trees outside our house, and will never tire of stroking wallabies. There are sulphur crested cockatoos too. So much nicer than seeing them depressed in cage in Petsmart.

I have to confess to a slight butterfly phobia Blush . At least spiders don't land on you and flap in your face.

It's bloody freezing in Sydney. Huff.

suzywong · 09/05/2006 12:23

24 lovely degrees here today...27 on Thursday

Yes hearing a Kookabura in the park is great, and IMO nothing is worse than the bloody awful aggresive pushy grey squirrels and verminous pigeons we used to be in horrifyingly close proximity to every day in London. Disgusting things

arfishymeau · 09/05/2006 12:46

Envy I need a rich husband and a winter house in Cairns. I don't do cold.

On the plus side work has given me a '3' phone. I can play the wiggles on it. DD saw it yesterday and gasped 'you have an AMAZING phone mummy!'. Saturday we are going to the nearest cafe that sells wine and I'm going to see how long it keeps her occupied.

Oh Sh$t. No I'm not. We're moving house. Am clearly mentally blocking it because we haven't packed and it's going to be a nightmare.

suzywong · 09/05/2006 14:41

where are you moving to? You're North Shore aren't you?
