Have you any helpful tips for coping with my sons 18th birthday party next Monday ? He is having it at home and is using only the playroom/computer room and the kitchen plus the garden (poor neighboors). He has asked us to be out from 7-12 but have said till 11 is late enough. JUSR HOPE THEY ARE NOT ALL DRUNK AND SICK.

maltesers · 03/04/2006 15:40

hi Kerry74. Wow you are in Sydney, an aussie or brit ? used to live in Sydney before my older ds was born way back in 1987/88 infact he is aussie made ! Have a 15 dd as well as ds of 5 so older son will have us all in , but he has sole use of very big playroom, kitchen and garden. Have warned the neighboors with nice letter. Off to teach two hours of fitness classes now with 5 yr old in tow as big kids have b..g...d off to town. Expect 18 yr has gone to but first legal drink.

maltesers - how did it go???

sallystrawberry - how many more parties did you have after that one???

Kerry74 · 04/04/2006 11:26

Aussie.
How did the party go, hopefully well..

maltesers · 04/04/2006 11:32

The party went really ok...Only one beer bottle smashed outside. The boys were very noisy and drunk as was my dd 15 yr old school friend so we let her stay over otherwise her mum would have grounded for for a year. What a huge mess this a.m. in the garden and in the big playroom but helped ds 18 yrs tidy up and now all is ship shape. They were really funny at the party and had made a jelly with vodka in it which blew their heads off. Ds of 5 yrs got to sleep bout 8.15 and slept threw the noise. And fantastic they were all gone by 11.58pm/ So pleased ! !

It won't be that bad.
My boss's daughter had her 18th at home, without her parents, they locked doors to all rooms except the two rooms and garden being used. Boss said daughter managed to clear up pretty well (except the garden which did end up covered in glass), tell your son to start winding the party down an hour before he does want people to leave, and he'll be paying for any damage incurred.....

fuzzywuzzy · 04/04/2006 11:54

ooops sorry, already done. Glad it went wellSmile

Starting to think that teenagers are sometimes better company than little ones. Have a five yr old ds , as well as dd 15 and ds 18 now and when in a good mood the bigger ones are not as bad as I thought. The little one can be so lovely when he says "I love you mummy so much " AH !They dont say that anymore only when i say it first. Both big kids are bit hung over so not good company today. DS friends are an ok lot. Always thought they were. Some even asked me to have a drink and join in. As for 15 yr old dd's friend she said she wished she had a mum who was as understanding as i am. that really cheered me up as my own relationship is crap most of time. !
