dd loved anythin that made noise so she got one of those musical button pressing semi-educational thingymijigs... :) and dh got her a baby xylophone which she delighted bashing Grin my poor head! It might be 3 years ago but I remember!

DelGirl · 17/03/2006 16:29

my dd's 1 in a month too Smile. I've bought her a musical shape sorter thing. Well, I hope it's easy on the ear, not tried it yet. And, a little armchair which is really cute. She had that a couple of weeks ago.

DelGirl · 17/03/2006 16:30

How about some garden toys if you have one?

a wheely bug, a set of childsize musical instruments and books.

all still going strong 6 months later.

tessasmum · 17/03/2006 16:31

Something little and noisy but also got her a charm bracelet that we have added to every year so far (she was 3 last mointh)

blueteddy · 17/03/2006 16:32

I bought DS1 a fisher price cement mixer thing.
DS2 had loads from DS1, so I was a mean Mummy & bought him clothes!
One of DS2's favourite toys at this age was a letterland bus & a mothercare push along ladybird - infact he still loves pushing this around now & he will be 3 on Tuesday!

brimfull · 17/03/2006 16:33

Aswell as toys from family,we got our two a childsize oak chair as a keepsake really.

Lio · 17/03/2006 16:34

Nothing. Make the most of it Smile

lahdeedah · 17/03/2006 16:34

My DD is 1 next week..... haven't bought her anything yet Blush She got so many toys for Christmas, and will be getting birthday presents from various rellies, so we'll probably just get her a few new books. We are saving our pennies ready for moving house later in the year!!

sweetkitty · 17/03/2006 16:38

Got her a Baby Annabel which she has only suddenly become interested in since DD2 was born 7 weeks ago.

Mega Blocks which are great and have been played with loads.

LIZS · 17/03/2006 16:40

ds a swing
dd a ride-on/rocker

cupcakes · 17/03/2006 16:48

I got them both keepsake toys.
Ds had a ride on bumble bee toy
Dd had a pull along wooden cat (which looks like our pet).

cupcakes · 17/03/2006 16:49

No she didn't - the cat was her first christmas present. Her first birthday present was a wicker baby doll pram. Too big for her at the time though.

ScarletA · 17/03/2006 17:35

Toy buggy from Argos £5. It has been played with every day since then (dd now 4) and so we bought ds one too - same thing. They ride in them, push things about in them, chase each other, crash and smash - loads of games. Just the best toy. If you can, get one that has the seat and all trimmings in cotton. Our second one has elastic attaching the seat to the frame and this has stretched loads and will break at some point quite soon (all the sitting in that it's had to endure).

trinityrocks · 17/03/2006 18:11

shape sorter and dolly when dd1 was 1
dd2 will be 1 in 4 weeks and is already nearly walking and pushes everything around so a walker thingy that she can push along is what she's getting

BettySpaghetti · 17/03/2006 18:24

Sand pit which was used every day last summer and will, no doubt, be used for lots more summers

iris66 · 17/03/2006 18:40

AA Milne compilation book of poetry because I remembered my mum reading them to me as a child. She still treasures it now at 17yrs & has just started reading the poems to my DS (8 weeks) bless Smile

purpleturtle · 17/03/2006 18:43

I bought a pretty summer dress with matching knickers for a fiver in the M&S sale. My parents did the sandpit thing (as a surprise to us, too!) which was a great idea.

Bozza · 17/03/2006 18:47

DS - a trike with harness and parent handle - still going strong for DD.

DD - a Happyland Doll's house. DS got her the £5 buggy from ELC and it was a great buy. I would definitely recommend that because she will almost certainly be walking some time over the summer and it is so small when folded down you can take it to the park etc.

We bought DD (now 4.5yo) the Little People farm which she played with straight away on her 1st birthday and continued to play with until she was about 3.5yo! We kept it for DS (now 18m) who loves putting all the animals back in their pens and making their noises. I tell everyone it was the best £20 I ever spent on a children's toy.

izzybiz · 17/03/2006 19:09

Dds birthday is in may so we bought her an inflatable pink car and filled it with play balls, my Ds got her a buggy, a £5 one and it was her favourite thing ever!

picnikel · 17/03/2006 19:12

warning Bad Mummy Alert.

My dd was one last month and I got her......

Nothing!!

She's only 12 months old, she had no idea it was her birthday and she got given plenty of things from other people. First birthdays are over-rated IMO.
