Do your DC watch tv in their rooms at bedtime and sleep with the light on?

Mine do Sad DH has got them tvs and they watch netflix at night. They are boys, 9 and 5 (way too young IMO). They also sleep with the light on as DH says they're scared of the dark. I feel it's stopping them getting a good night's sleep but if I dim the light he turns it up again saying it's 'dingey' (sp).

My parents used to let me go to sleep in front of the tv during my childhood - afraid of the dark & I think they were too lazy to put me to bed.

I have had a lifetime of sleeping problems and I think its due to not being put to bed properly.

My DC will never have TVs in their room plus have strict use of computers as they are bascially TVs now.

no Tv's in bedrooms here but then they are preschool and toddler age.

If you search the archives here (or someone might be able to find it for you) there was a thread about TV before bed and a link to a study proving how bad it was for brain development.

My girls will not be having tv's in their rooms for many a year yet.
Agree with the others about a nightlight if they need it.

No no no, genuine health hazard. Google it and present your DH with some evidence.

Talking books after lights-out and a low nightlight might be a good compromise.

Similar here - I wasn't scared of the dark but my parents never ever put me to bed, I just stayed on the sofa with them until I dozed off, so not only did I build up a need for TV to sleep, I also saw a vast amount of inappropriate stuff on tv at night, sex, violence etc. Obviously not implying anyone here would do that but it's made me quite determined about this issue.

I was at the doctor today and the subject of sleep came up (I'm unwell and having difficulty sleeping some nights) - I mentioned that we have no tv in our room and he said "excellent, good sleep etiquette" :o

None of my children watch TV at bedtime, the older boys sometimes had story tapes to listen to at bedtime but nothing else. My 18yo has TV in his room and does whatever he likes now as long as he doesn't disturb the rest of us, My 14yo has a TV but no aerial feed so only for DVDs or PS2, though he rarely uses either. My 5yo doesn't have a TV at all but will occasionally watch a DVD on the portable player if he's ill. My 5yo has a groclock - that acts as a nightlight too, but it's set fairly dim, just enough to not break your neck on the mounds of crap all over the place toys left out.

well we tried it and as I said,,
ds cannot get up for school, I had said to DH did he now see he cannot go to bed this late, he agrees but says we should try a little earlier, I'm putting them to bed at 8:30 and tv off a nine full stop!!
I was correct they do need more sleep than we seem to think even when they do not seem tired.. hate to say it but really wanted to say I told you so lol Grin
