if not, what tops it?

  • y'cant even re-gift it/charity shop it! you just gotta find it a bottom of a drawer to call home Confused, or set it free on a beach to re-integrate with the other stones! totally totally useless!

I dont know but that names pretentious. I guess if you lived in a beach hut at the Hamptons it might fit in with your decor.

Napdamnyou · 19/08/2012 21:56

I would rather have a cake, tbh. Or a bottle of whisky.

BigHairyFlowers · 19/08/2012 21:57

That gave me the wiggins, the first thing I thought when I saw it was it looked like something you'd leave by a grave. A new baby gift? If someone gave me that as a baby gift I'd be utterly mortified.

I wouldn't even know what to say about it in a thank you note Confused

"thanks for the stones, they're nice and solid!"????

Destined to be thrown at the tv at least once during the toddler years...

"our newborn is very into geology at the moment so they're perfect!"

We gave one if those to DH's uncle and aunt as a ruby wedding gift, it had their initials with a heart in between.
They've incorporated into their rockery - they are really into gardening.

Also gave one to a child as a Pagan Naming gift. His name means 'stone' in medieval English, so it seemed appropriate enough.

Pomtastic · 20/08/2012 13:33

yy, even the photographer looks like they've had trouble knowing what to do with them! Just plonked them on a plate on a bench.

Onthebottomwithawomansweekly · 20/08/2012 13:35

My brother did give DD the biggest Toblerone ever for her first Christmas...she was born 26th Nov.

But at least I got to eat that - wtf would you do with a stone?!!!

usualsuspect · 20/08/2012 13:35

I think they are quite nice.

usualsuspect · 20/08/2012 13:35

But then I have no taste Grin

Those two on the plate really do look like there should be a third one with "RIP" on it.

JustinBoobie · 20/08/2012 13:50

soz, I quite like it... not sure why though.

I usually do a wwf for newborns... parent can take it up after the year if they like.

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey · 20/08/2012 14:03

Sorry, but I beat that.
When DD was born mil went to a fancy pharmacy to buy me and DD some treats - body lotion for me, baby bath stuff etc. The lady there offered to put together a basket of goodies while mil pottered.

Later, when we investigated the basket's contents, we saw that the pharmacy lady had thrown in some freebies of BABY COLOGNE.

Perfume for newborn babies, anyone?

1500mmania · 20/08/2012 14:13

I was given a cricket ball when DS was born - hoping he would get into cricket I suppose. Strange though as neither I or anyone in our family are particularly interested in cricket.

ChunkyPickle · 20/08/2012 14:19

I was on a flight just last year and in the little bag they give you when travelling with a baby was a bottle of baby cologne - I didn't know what I was supposed to do with it (was quite a big bottle really)..

I was told that it was still vaguely in use in Spain - although I'm still not quite sure what for.. I guess for wiping on to cool the baby down?

I can see the stone for anniversaries or whatever - but I do think it's odd to give heavy objects like that to a baby/toddler. No good can come of it.

notso · 20/08/2012 14:21

I'd rather a pebble than the personalised football kits DH's brother has given each of my newborns.

mamato2 · 20/08/2012 14:27

My MIL bought one for DS1 for his first Christmas......it is in the loft Smile
She also gave us one with our wedding date engraved...that one is in our bedroom. I quite like them but not really suitable for newborns/ babies/ young children!

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 20/08/2012 14:33

The name is quite apt.

I am not a fan of personalised gee gaws like samplers for the day you were married etc.

Loshad · 20/08/2012 14:38

Hope they're not just nicking the stones off the beach

NarkedRaspberry · 20/08/2012 14:43

They're trying to make them look aspirational.

NewlyMintedPeasant · 20/08/2012 14:46

check mate!

then while you're stunned finish it with...

NarkedRaspberry · 20/08/2012 14:48

Is it wrong that I want the pink one to put on the dog?

NarkedRaspberry · 20/08/2012 14:48

The boy dog (no gender stereotyping here)
