if not, what tops it?

  • y'cant even re-gift it/charity shop it! you just gotta find it a bottom of a drawer to call home Confused, or set it free on a beach to re-integrate with the other stones! totally totally useless!

Is it just me that thinks they look like bars of soap?

Agree with you OP, what a gift to give anyone! What's wrong with a pack of babygros these days?

BigHairyFlowers · 20/08/2012 17:21

I was told not to buy baby clothes as I'd get so many as gifts. I got so many 'unique' and 'individual' gifts and ended up taking teeny weeny baby out for multipacks of babygros because he had nothing to wear. Could have done without that.

Not meaning to sound ungrateful or anything.. Blush

I bet the people who end up with those stones wish they were as useful as bars of soap!

I'm loving the review from Mary on the Infant Pillow page: 'Seriously. Hold your child.' Definitely a MNetter! Grin

at least the toupes give a giggle!

I can't think of any occasion for which a stone would enhance my life! maybe for decorating graves?

Don't people get that when your beautiful matchy pre-child home is suddenly overrun by a little person who seems to have more belongings than both adults put together YOU DO NOT NEED ORNAMENTS!!!!, especially since they'll all be pulled on the floor/chewed/sucked/chucked in a few months!
(that goes for bloody moneyboxes too! seriously we got about 17 - luckily none were engraved so could all be charity shopped!)

I was given a name train for my youngest - each little wooden carriage had a letter of his name and you have to hook the (tiny, metal, not child-safe) hooks together to form the name. What the hell am I meant to DO with the damn thing? A 'dust-gatherer' if ever I saw one...

A friend with very good taste got us a gift set from Cath Kidston of a hat, flannel and bootees, in the cowboy design. The hat was way too small for DS's head even from birth (and he was only 6.10 lb), the flannel is about three inches square so basically useless, and the bootees just fell off as soon as I put them on. Looked lovely, all in a box and everything, but basically useless.

This outs me but... my dd was given a box of stones for her first birthday by a family member (unengraved). They are from a significant place to the family. They actually get played with a lot (!), mostly by dd2 now, & when they are but older we can do a Kettle's Yard esque (can't link on phone) display with them on an occasional table...

The baby cologne is something used in Spain and surrounding countries. I think its the equivalent if putting cream/talc in our children.

It smells DELICIOUS. Its called nenuco, i use it on myself and they also have plugins of it i believe? Bit strong for children though, i do agree.
Babies smell amazing enough without cologne!

33goingon64 I got some of that cowboy range stuff too!
a bib and a tee shirt! somehow Cath Kidson managed to make such simple items as a bib and a tee shirt totally useless!
the bib shrivled up on first wash and went all curly, the tee-shirt was wide enough for a 4 year old but short enough to be a belly top on a baby Confused - I have no idea WHAT it was designed to fit! not a baby or child anyway!

you have 3DCs and room to keep non fuctional items forever? Gosh once DC1 came along here everything non fuctional had to be ruthlessly culled to make space for some air in our home, and to allow us to walk from room to room Grin

This has made me laugh, Cosmo is a name we considered and abandoned for fear of teasing and we are pagan and have quite a lot of geology bits about the house, but I am afraid they are a bit of a dust gatherer.

Got to throw in the hooded baby towel though as most useless baby gift. My eldest dc are too big for those hooded towels now and we are on to baby number 4. We have 18 of those daft hooded baby towels. I do not want any more but I have a canny feeling I maybe getting at least another 4. Or daft booties that don't stay on, actually I would love a gift voucher lovely and practical. :)

I'll see your hooded towels (all tiny and thin, we wrapped DS up in nice big fluffy warm ordiary towels instead) and raise you half a dozen mothercare gift cards - there's no mothercare here and you cannot use them online, the bar code comes off if you put it in your wallet so by the time we got to a town that had a MC they were worthless! Confused (not the gift givers fault, they would of course have seemed like a very practical gift.. but they're not!)

Go to loch - pick up smooth pebbles - get kids to decorate...

'Cosmo' might actually grow up to like them but I doubt my DC would.
