Am I frivolous with money?

As was accused by friend after admitting to cutting vests off dd after nappy explosion rather than do the inside out roll, have to bath and wash her hair etc. Plus don't have to wash said vests either. Friend horrified. Am I a bad person?

I suppos eit depends how much money you have

some people can afford to buy new vests each week, some can't

moondog · 13/03/2006 15:02

Not really Annie.
I could afford to buy different vests every week but believe that wasting resources is wrong wrong wrong!

PiccadillyCircus · 13/03/2006 15:04

I haven't been throwing away DD's vests afetr nappy explosions, although this may be because they smell of breastfed poo and I can cope with them.

DS's pants with poo in are another matter though, especially when the aforesaid poo is not firm.

Breastfed poo is quite pleasant really, like yoghurt.
I remember once, urging my sister to inhale a deep draught.

PiccadillyCircus · 13/03/2006 15:06

I agree. This will be the downside of the fact that DD is starting to have solid food now (in addition to the breastmilk, so I am hoping that the pleasant odour remains)

elliott · 13/03/2006 15:08

Never occurred to me. Goodness me some people are very squeamish!

moondog · 13/03/2006 15:13

It won't PC!!

PiccadillyCircus · 13/03/2006 15:27

I know really. I wonder why no-one gives this as a reason for not starting weaning too early ("Their poo will smell better Grin)

moondog · 13/03/2006 15:28

Oh I do!!!

expatinscotland · 13/03/2006 15:30

I give the lazy factor - if you wait they can go onto finger foods. Easy peasy to prepare!

W/DD1, the recommendation was to wean at 4 mos., but she wasn't ready. But the time she was, at pretty close to 6 mos., she had some pegs and could nibble finger foods.

lazycow · 13/03/2006 16:05

Not only have I done this but am planning to buy very cheap underwear and throw away any pants where bad poo accidents happen when potty training. Waste or no waste life is too short to wash pooey (is that how you spell it?) pants.

It's all in the name.

Kelly1978 · 13/03/2006 16:10

I don't cut them but I do bin them. I'm glad I'm nto the only one neither!

lapsedrunner · 13/03/2006 16:13

I too have chucked out pants full of poo (the ones just too disgusting to face) when potty training.

stitch · 13/03/2006 16:40

its all to do with financila circmstances.
ive chucked away poohy pants, school trousers, socks. and cant seem to get up the courage to clean the fox mess on the school shoes ds2 has, which his teachers kindly gave me back in a nice carrier bag.
cant seem to chuck them either. Blush

stitch · 13/03/2006 16:41

well, tbh, whilst potty training, i would always use the cheapest possible ones available anyways

PiccadillyCircus · 13/03/2006 16:54

DS's pants are pretty cheap (tesco's un-finest)

ShaysMummy · 13/03/2006 16:56

we have explosions most days but i cant afford to cut vests off. and they are hand downs!!
would if i could tho probably.

elliott · 13/03/2006 20:07

I don't think its anything to do with financial circumstances. Those of you who can't face dealing with pooey pants or clothes, I guess you couldn't face washable nappies either? Its all poo down the pan to me....Wink

Orinoco · 13/03/2006 21:56

I bin them if the need arises. But then again, I refuse to buy expensive clothes for the kids, simply so that I can do this if I have to.

misdee · 13/03/2006 21:58

i find it a bit odd tbh, not that you are frivolous with money. but then we are a washable nappy household, so think nothing of washing pooey clothes after they have been sluiced.

Orinoco · 13/03/2006 22:34

I guess I just think that I'd have to do a 90% wash to get them clean, possibly with biological powder which would then mean another wash with non-bio, and as I only buy cheap vests anyway, it probably works out cheaper to chuck it!

misdee · 13/03/2006 22:56

nope, just rinse the poo off and pop it in with the nappy load. thats just me tho.

threebob · 13/03/2006 22:58

I bought seriously cheap undies thinking I would do this. But as we still wipe up the accidents with reusable cloths I just throw the undies in as well. Therefore I have massive amounts of undies and washing. Which is probably frivolous and stupid.

elliott · 14/03/2006 09:51

misdee, no its not just you! I have to say I find it seriously strange that people can't face washing poo. Especially baby breast fed poo, but really poo of any kind. Spare a thought for those caring for children, adults or elderly people who soil themselves. And putting raw sewage in landfill isn't really the best way of dealing with it imo!

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:11

I've even sptopped using disposable wipes (don't like the idea of all those chemicals,in the same way as they freak me out in disposable nappies).
I have collected a pile of old textiles and cut them into small squares.
They live in the utility room by the changing mat and I use them damp and then chuck them into my nappy bucket.
