On Tuesday morning I noticed that dd1, who's 7, had a stalk of hair sticking up at the top of her head. Someone had obviously cut her hair.
When I asked what happened she looked sad and told me a reception boy had been brandishing scissors in the playground and had cut her hair.

Obviously I took her to school and told a teacher. She was taken round the classes in an attempt to identify this boy but to no avail. All three reception classes were talked to very firmly about scissors and danger. The teachers were great and took it really seriously.

I was worried, not least because she had apparently been unable to defend herself against a boy two years her junior.
Anyway it was big worry and she got loads of sympathy.

However ..... I've just been clearing up under our dining room table and blow me if I didn't find A CLUMP OF DD'S HAIR.

How embarrassing is that?

What shall I do? I'm thinking the correct response would be to get her to apologise to the teachers. How traumatic though. I don't know if I could subject her to that but I know I should. Would you?

I think it was my ds who thought of that. He's four years older.

hmm 7 and haircutting?

dd + her yr2 chums are all doing this at the moment, seems to be a new craze.

(she also took a clump out of her brother so he has a bald spot!)

I cut my own hair when I bit younger than your dd. My mother's pinking shears were just too tempting... I thought I'd end up with a zig-zag edge.

Tried to blame my little sister which was entirely implausible given that she was about two.

Can't remember what my mother did but I certainly knew I'd been found out and never did it again. Mind you, a few of my Sindy dolls acquired interesting hair cuts!

Marina · 24/02/2006 15:00

I cut all the hair off round our poor family dog's tail. I think my dsis would have quite literally killed me if I had taken the scissors to her

Am ROFL at all this.

Spidermama - your children are definitely related to my DS. All manner of terrible goings on have transpired in DS's school ...

I think Marina has the best overall approach...good job you have a background in theatre, to handle the straight faced bit.

anniebear · 24/02/2006 15:21

lol, didn't you all have a Girls World with lovely long hair and after a few years, it got shorter and shorter until it resembled a skin head?

Marina · 24/02/2006 15:38

I had a Tressy with a matted Hoxton fin...and a virtually comatose and elderly cairn terrier dear old Bonzo.

I did it. I told tghe teacher and she thanked me for teling her. My dd came out all skipping and smiles. I've told her off and told her that the teacher knows and will be considering what to do about it.

She's crying in the kitchen. Now I feel really guilty.

argh...I do sympathise - I was your dd SO many times as a kid!

My Mum used to say "just stop and think. Think 'if I do this, is there any chance that anyone might end up crying?'"

Hope it dies down without T(O much trauma. Did the teacher look grave, or amused?.

edam · 24/02/2006 15:52

I wasn't allowed a Girl's World (sexist, according to my mother - I just think she never enjoyed playing with girly toys so didn't want to buy me any). So had to crop my Sindies instead... one ended up with a Mohican!

quanglewangle · 24/02/2006 16:14

No, please don't tell the school - kids too easily end up labelled, I have seen it happen. Just threaten to. Has she admitted it or is she sticking to her guns? Don't suppose she could have picked up the hair and brought it home? A long shot maybe, but just a thought.

quanglewangle · 24/02/2006 16:16

Sorry, silly me, too late. Mental note to self - read thread before jumping in

spidermama · 24/02/2006 16:33

Doh!
Don't worry quangle. I think her teacher's great.
Anyway she's only there for one more term after this.

I hope she is not still crying. Do you think telling her she has made a lot of mothers weep with laughter this afternoon will improve her mood or make her hate you for life?
