See what I did there? :o

How's everyone doing? I am several weeks behind with no motivation whatsoever.

i was thinking of doing children literature next but before that got a TMA in for tomorrow and have written exactly nothing!!

tumbleweedblowing · 21/05/2012 10:50

I think the children's literature course looks brilliant. I have a list of courses I'd love to do when I've finished my degree, and that is almost at the top of the list...

Hopefully I'll win the lottery soon, and can spend the rest of my life "doing good things" and studying. Grin

gingergran · 21/05/2012 17:24

just worried as i haven't studied literature before - just children!

I haven't studied english since GCSE. Eng lit is the one A level I really regret not choosing at college, most of my friends did it and loved it. Crust course does sound awesome though and those I've spoken to really loved it, but said they were surprised at how little analysis was required.

I'm hoping to charter as a librarian after my degree so it would be good for that. Really struggling to decide the last one, I really miss maths but it might take an extra year as the courses are 30pts not 60, and I don't know if I could find 2 that I could manage at once.

I wish I could do all of it :( TBH though my mental health is so crap right now it'll be a miracle if I even get through this course. Which reminds me - need to ask tutor for an extension on tma due tomorrow Blush

Hope you're OK fuzzpig, don't let things get on top of you. Break it down into small manageable chunks and be good to yourself. Brew

Getting a bit stressed about exam now - wishing I had done more work. DH says that I have been better this year, more organised, less procrastination etc. IF that's true, there is hope for us all world's biggest procrastinating underachiever

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2012 20:33

Are most people here doing an Open Degree? I've still not committed to the OU yet. There advice was opt for the "highest" qualification as it may be easier to change "down" as it were. Well, 2 thoughts: a) What if it's not possible to change "down" and I'm stuck doing more courses (and paying more money) and b) A named degree is clearly seen as more prestigious even though to get a named degree now, at my stage, would mean having to do a extra Level 1 course covering stuff I've largey covered already Confused

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2012 20:34

FGS "their" not "there". Oh, the irony that one of the courses I'm considering is the Eng Lang one Blush

Magneto · 23/05/2012 20:37

I just saw this in active convos and thought I'd pop in and say Hi!

I'm due to start my degree with the OU in October and I'm really excited about it. Hopefully I won't procrastinate much though as I always did my homework as soon as I got it when I was at school (ha! like that's going to happen now! Grin)

fuzzpig · 24/05/2012 06:36

Edith I am doing an open degree as I just couldn't settle on one subject. I wish I could but I'm just too flakey Blush

How are you getting on without TMA fuzz?

gingergran · 24/05/2012 14:20

Stupid predictive text - meant with your TMA?

fuzzpig · 25/05/2012 10:35

Not good, barely started. Haven't even heard from my tutor though. Bit worried. Did you finish yours?

tumbleweedblowing · 25/05/2012 11:57

Does anyone have any good suggestions for how NOT to procrastinate.

My exam is in just over two weeks. I haven't a clue.

wildstrawberryplace · 25/05/2012 11:59

Argh I'm procrastinating wildly

I'm posting all over mumsnet like a blue arsed fly.

I cleaned the porch and hoovered spiders webs outside the front door and hoovered inside the gas meter box and all around the trims and window ledges.

I baked a fruit and nut loaf.

I have just stopped myself whipping out the sewing machine and attempting to make myself a top.

How come I do bugger all and suddenly get all house proud and crafty when I have a deadline?

This is day 2 of my doing the work for the first time revision timetable and I am 2 days behind Angry

tumbleweedblowing · 25/05/2012 12:31

I was thinking baking might be the way to go. The text book I need is in the kitchen, so I need to go in that direction anyway... Blush

craftynclothy · 25/05/2012 13:23

Edith - I'm doing an Open Degree too but for different reasons.
(a) It was easier to sort out the credit transfer (they didn't need full descriptions of every module I've ever taken for my previous degree)
(b) it meant I didn't have to follow any set path, so I had a much wider choice of module combinations
(c) I don't have to do the final year project (would have been compulsory for any degree in IT afaik) and it's more expensive than the other level 3 modules

I am still waiting for my final TMA mark. It is officially late being returned to me. That's the second late one on this course and there's only 3 in total Angry. I'd email to cahse it but I think it would be a bit arsey if I wrote it now, not least because I asked for an extension and he didn't bother replying until after the dealine...then said I could have an extra week (too late, I pulled an all nighter to finish it - which he should know if he ever bothered checking anything)

gingergran · 25/05/2012 13:46

yes fuzz, finished mine and submitted it 23.49 - just before deadline. really didn't enjoy it though and i am really not looking forward to the next one. if i can help you at all let me know. if your tutor is not being supportive have you spoken to student support to see if they can help out at all.

if you are behind on the reading then option 1 seemed to be the way to go for TMA03 as all of the information is in book 2 chapter 2

try not to stress too much - you have done so well on your first two TMAs that you can afford not to do so well on this one and for your overall grade not to be affected - if necessary why not submit a detailed essay plan which would get you some marks, take the pressure off yourself and just get on with the next one. might give you a chance to get some breathing space

wildstrawberryplace · 29/05/2012 17:34

How long would you leave it before pestering a tutor for a TMA back? It's day 14 today and the exam is in 2 weeks, I'd kind of like to know how I did so I can revise accordingly...

gingergran · 30/05/2012 07:53

my last TMA took over three weeks but by some miracle an hour after i emailed her to ask how long it would be, it arrived (with the comments tracked and the timings for her comments being within the hour before it was sent!!) - so maybe an enquiring email would help

wildstrawberryplace · 30/05/2012 13:02

Funnily enough that is exactly what I did gingergran and lo and behold it was back within 2 hours. Grin

gingergran · 30/05/2012 14:43

it's magic

wildstrawberryplace · 31/05/2012 00:23

Just submitted my EMA. Feel literally wall-eyed now Confused

Exam for other course in less than 2 weeks. Needless to say I have not done anything for it so far. And it's half term next week Shock

But for now, Wine

chipmunksex · 31/05/2012 14:14

Yay for strawberries EMA. Wine

mine is sitting on my hard drive waiting for me to be brave enough to send it.

It is only 3700 words of crap and it's supposed to be 4000. Do you think it will be enough?

It's nearly killed me to write the horrid thing and I just can't wait for term to be over so I can wash the kitchen floor Blush it's been months and get horrendously pissed too.

wildstrawberryplace · 31/05/2012 16:06

Usually the standard is 5% over or under wordcount, some tutors allow 10%. My last TMA was supposed to be 4000, but in the rubric it actually said 3500-4000. Worth checking?

chipmunksex · 31/05/2012 16:13

Well I have sent the bugger off.

It was 3730 in the end, the rubric said +- 10% so hopefully ok.

God what a slog, exam next year I think, less stressful.
