Porridge with bananas.
Then porridge with blueberries (apparently my portions are too small)

Apple slices

Tuna and sweetcorn sandwich, cherry tomatoes.
Yoghurt. Another yoghurt.

2 biscuits

Chicken casserole

Mixed berries and half an orange

DC has a cold at the moment so is pretty much calling the shots, hence all the fruit! Also going through a growth spurt, eats like a horse for days then hardly anything for days.

beela · 17/04/2012 13:54

Cakes with veg in can work - e.g. courgette cake, or Harry Eastwood has done a whole book of veg based cakes.

Not tried it with my DS as he will happily eat veg but not cakes Hmm

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 17/04/2012 13:57

DS is 19mo

Breakfast: 1/2 slice toast with Philadelphia, a banana
Lunch: Beef meatballs, pasta, sprouts (yeah, I know- he loves them, strange child) and broccoli. A petit filous and half a fresh mango
Snack: 3 small animal biscuits (basically rich teas in an animal shape), quite a lot of raisins, many of which were stolen from other children
Dinner: 2 sausages, rice and steamed asparagus, a fromage frais, 5 strawberries

He also has 160ml of milk when he wakes, after his lunchtime nap and before bed (but he still has a bottle which I know is bad)

This actually looks ok written down but I find myself stressing about it quite a lot. Plus points is that he is great with fruit and veg, and meat. Bad points is that he wont eat bloody potatoes, sandwiches or anything like lasagne which is an actual dish as opposed to separate components....or cheese other than philadelphia .

(also wont use cutlery but I'm leaving that battle for now)

Yesterdays meals for 23 month old:

B: Some (I think) toast, some scrambled egg and some fruit (inc banana - good!)

after swim: milk and half bag of cheesy puffs

L: The chicken out of my chicken sandwich, two corners of the bread, one piece of roasted squash, half a tangerine. Would have been whole, but the other half was a bit manky, so I ate it. Luckily the sandwich had a tasty garlic mayo which helped me to eat the empty bread with relish.

after nap: a biscuit

D: A spoonful of tomato sauce. A fistful of grated parmesan. Took up my offer of "tasting" the gnocchi when I said she needn't swallow it if she at least tasted it. Spat it out. Wouldn't try jelly, but had four strawberries. Told her father she had had jelly for tea.

Bedtime: cup cows milk, quarter bagel, breastmilk too.

I feel I'm beginning to struggle...

MegBusset · 17/04/2012 14:12

DS2 is 2.11. Yesterday he had:

Breakfast: Toast w/Marmite, and a bowl of apricot wheats
Lunch: Cheese roll, cucumber and cherry tomatoes, yoghurt
Snacks: banana, apple, cereal bar
Dinner: spaghetti and meatballs, cheese, banana custard
Biscuits and milk before bed

Today he's poorly with a temp so only had toast, porridge and a cream cheese and ham sandwich.

He's my good eater who will eat basically anything. DS1 makes up for it by being the uber fussy/picky/food-refusing one. Both weaned in exactly the same way.

chezziejo · 17/04/2012 14:14

Hi onetwothreefourfive. He used to eat spag Bol but more when it was a purée. He is 22 months old now but when he was weaned he ate everything but despised lumpy/mashed food. Still won't touch rice pudding so I think it's textures maybe he dosnt like. He's just started liking gravy too. I keep offering things and hope he will try it in time. Will try the courgette idea tho, thanks.

DS (2.1) is in creche mon-fri, but when he was home with us at the weekend, on Sunday he ate:

Breakfast: 180ml milk, bowl of cheerios (no milk), some of DH's pate on toast
mid-morning snack: a handful of small biscuits
Lunch: Bread and butter, some of my chips (we went out for lunch) and some of DH's sausage
Afternoon snack: 1 1/2 bananas
Dinner: A massive portion of beef hotpot thingy with carrots, onion, potato and beans in it, followed by a vanilla yogurt
Bedtime: 150ml milk

This morning he had his milk, refused cheerios for breakfast, had a small bowl of crunchy museli (with milk) then a banana. At creche he'll have some with veg and meat for lunch usually, followed by an afternoon snack of small sandwiches or fruit and biscuits. Then when we I get him home, he'll have usually a boiled egg + 2 slices of toast, followed by greek yogurt + fruit puree for tea. Then some milk at bedtime.

He's generally a good eater, but we have days where he eats like a horse and days where he'll gently graze from one end of the day to the other! He can be quite funny about new things until they've been presented to him several times, especially (oddly enough) new sweet things, like chocolate and/or cakes.... Toddlers are odd!

PullUpAPew · 17/04/2012 14:22

Oooh, a memory test for me, this!

Yesterday DS2 (2) ate:

Breakfast - porridge, toast
Snack - 4 satsumas (wanted another 20 but I was worried about poo explosion so said no)
Lunch - Mackerel, cuc, toms, couscous, caramel bunny
Snack - almonds, apricots, rice cakes
Snack - scone & jam
Tea - Pasta with bacon & tom sauce
Snack - cup cow's milk
Supper - porridge

He basically eats all day long unless ill, when he was little would never eat much in a sitting so has lots of meals. How he is still so skinny I don't know after looking at that!

PullUpAPew · 17/04/2012 14:23

Oh, and some crackers and a peanut butter sandwich before lunch.

Pascha · 17/04/2012 15:31

Well today so far has been

Breakfast: peanut butter on toast x1
Snack: A banana eaten in several pieces throughout the day
Lunch: a piece of garlic bread (but not the crust), 2 mouthfuls of fish pie
Snack: A cereal bar

shrinkingnora · 17/04/2012 17:26

chezziejo - yours sounds exactly like mine!

He just ate some dried mango. I nearly fainted with shock. Getting fairly fed up of people thinking they can cure him and it's something I'm doing. Although I am certain I was like this before I had a properly fussy eater.

chezziejo · 17/04/2012 17:53

I know what you mean. We eat a fair variety of food but getting him to is a nightmare. I whittle myself daft sometimes but the I think well he won't starve himself. So hard tho. We even roast a carrot to try that with his Sunday dinner and he put it in his mouth and then put it back on his plate. Arrrggghhhh.

NotExtinct · 17/04/2012 18:00

Yesterday my 23 month old ate:
Breakfast - readybrek with mashed banana with a small beaker or milk
Lunch - beans on toast with egg
Snacks - blueberries, apple, lump of cheese, cheddar cracker
Tea - lasagne
Two large beakers of milk before bed.

This is a good day, sometimes she hardly eats anything though and other times she eats well. She doesn't normally drink two beakers of milk though, just the one!

ohbugrit · 17/04/2012 18:02

A couple of raisins (she then threw them up), a mouthful of baked beans, and she has chewed and spat out a segment of satsuma, a piece of pitta bread and a small slice of cheddar.

She's got a dreadful virus thing and I've just noticed what looks like thrush in her mouth which may explain the rubbish appetite. She's feeding like a newborn.

COCKadoodledooo · 17/04/2012 18:12

Today (he didn't eat after 6pm yesterday!) 2.6yo ds2 has had:

Rice crispies with raisins and milk (bigger bowl than his 8yo brother!), orange juice.

Snack of half a pork pie with water

An apple

Lunch he had a sausage, carrots (probably equivalent of one whole one) and mashed potato (couple of heaped dessertspoonsful). He didn't eat the caulifower cheese he'd actually asked for Hmm. More orange juice.

Spaghetti hoops (1/3 tin) and one piece of toast for tea, water to drink.

He's also had a few bits of Easter egg.

shrinkingnora · 17/04/2012 18:19

Chezzie - mine won't even eat roasties and half the time refuses chips. Hopefully it's just a really long phase!

georgie22 · 17/04/2012 18:25

18 month old dd has had 150ml milk first thing, followed by
breakfast: piece of fruit bread, porridge and third of a fruit pot,
lunch: houmous, pitta bread, cheese and cucumber followed by banana
snack: organix animal biscuits and sultanas
tea: homemade pasta amatriciana, fruit pot and fromage frais
plus gallons of water - she can't drink enough!! She will then have about 200ml milk before bed. She loves fruit and is generally a good eater although she always wants to eat our food too! I let her try most things including bits of choc cheesecake but it's a rare treat for her.

chezziejo · 17/04/2012 18:33

It's only the last week he's eaten roasties. When I say chips he will o ly eat those tesco thin and crispy ones. He used to love parsnips but won't touch one now. I just plod on now and take each day. I tried beans one day and the look on his face was priceless. Yet he loves tomato sauce if it's on a pizza. Same stuff on pasta forget it.

ahhhhhpushit · 17/04/2012 18:33

foxeeroxee · 17/04/2012 19:04

Ds1 (3) ate:
7am-bowl of cornflakes and drink of milk
9.30-some strawberries and small yoghurt
11-a banana
12.30-jam sandwich,grapes,raisins,some crisps and a biscuit.
2.30-slice of toast at nursery
4.30-fish,mash,carrots and peas
6.30-milk and biscuit
Bedtime?!!!
I have been really worried recently that he seems to be eating constantly and is always talking about whichever meal is next.
Dd is 5 and is the same.
I am hoping it is just down to the fact that they both need the calories for the amount of walking (about 5miles to school/nursery and back) and general 'activeness'.They both like to play out when they get home as well but writing it down as above makes me think im over feeding them. Blush

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 18/04/2012 01:56

this thread has made me feel better. Sometimes I get into a bit of an inferiority mode where I actually let myself believe (by reading the AK book) that some people are whipping up the following

  • Breakfast: vanilla french toast with tropical fruit medley and raspberry coulis
  • Lunch- home made fish and chips served in a mini newspaper cone
  • Dinner- Moroccan lamb in a toddler sized tagine with jasmine scented rice and oriental stir fried veg. Knickerbocker glory.

Glad to see many "RL" mums are relying on less exotic fare Grin

bbface · 18/04/2012 12:00

Thanks for all your responses.

These threads are great when your child is eating like a trojan. Concerning when they aren't because of sickness or just because they are picky eaters. I remember being so tense when DS had a chest infection and he didn't eat for a week. I read a similar thread and it scared me hugely.

This thread has made me realilse I shouldn't stress when DS doesn't want to eat a prawn or an olive. He actually eats so much, that if he doesn't want something exotic, it is not the end of the world.

Brekkie
3oz of milk, followed by large portion of fruity porridge

Snack
a LOT of fresh mango

Lunch
roast chicken and veggie cous cous
fruit squeezy
1 large soft dried apricot

After nap
apple juice and a baby biscuit

Snack
3/4 banana

Dinner
Babysweetcorn
mild chicken curry with rice mixed with peas
munch bunch yogurt

DD used to eat all manner of things, prawns, olives, asparagus but recently she only sticks to tried and tested foods and will often declare that she doesn't like something that has previously eaten. Sometimes she will deign to eat it if I spoonfeed her like a baby, not sure where that has come from.

I did read that its an evolutionary trait that kicks in when they are old enough to feed themselves.
