How old were your DCs when they stopped calling you mummy?

dd is in year 1 and is 6. She came home crying tonight because her best friend is teasing her for still calling me mummy - apparently only babies say mummy and she should say mum.

I don't want to be called mum yet :( I know its pathetic but i like being called mummy. Is it really so babyish at 6?

My DS and most of his friends still use mummy.

FunnysInTheGarden · 03/02/2012 16:56

DS1 is 6 and he says mummy, mind you I don't get a kiss at the school gate any more as it's just soooo not cool

Olbasoil · 03/02/2012 16:56

Mine ( Ds1 12, ds3 4. dd1 4 ds 4 ) call me Mummy, Ds1 less so and Ds4 says ummmmm which is me apparently!)

Around 6. I was sad too.

overmydeadbody · 03/02/2012 16:58

About 5 I think.

bruffin · 03/02/2012 17:00

My DCs called me Mama more than Mummy then changed to Mum when they were about 7 or 8. I was sad when I became Mum.

DS is 16 now and shouts Mum,MUM MUMMY in a rising pitch in a joking way when he wants something:)

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 03/02/2012 17:02

Ds stopped when he was 4! I still refer to myself as mummy in the 3rd person tho!!

soandsosmummy · 03/02/2012 18:04

:( sounds like we're nearing the end of it then. Sure I'll get used to being mum after a while

i get my 3 year old to say mum instead of mummy cos i like it more, only rarely will he say mummy, and my other 2 dont talk yet. i know people who have gone up to adulthood still saying mummy though! so dont think there's really an age where they become 'too old' but if your dd is more comfy with changing to mum then i would let her, or if its just cos of her friends im sure she will still call you mummy at home and just say 'my mum' infront of others

beckyboo232 · 03/02/2012 18:10

I'm always mama to all mine, always have been Smile

OddBoots · 03/02/2012 18:10

My 12 year old ds still insists on calling us Mummy and Daddy, I'm very much looking forward to him making the change, maybe at 13 Hmm.

Eglu · 03/02/2012 18:11

DS1 is 8 and still says Mummy. Although if he is talking about me to friends he says Mum.

BoobyBrown · 03/02/2012 18:13

My DS still calls me mummy, has never even thought of calling me anything else. He is 11.

His dad, aunts and uncles all still call their mum 'mummy' at age 40 and beyond.

Funny enough, my DTDs call me mama (as in mama mia, not the posh one). Do not know where they picked it up from but at age 8 they are still using mama, and I like it.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 03/02/2012 18:13

DD is 9 and I'm still Mummy.

Although I did accidentally call my Mum "Mummy" the other day and I'm 32 Grin

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2012 18:18

Ds1 (12) has just asked if he can call me Mum instead. Seems he may be a bit late then?

stephrick · 03/02/2012 18:24

DS still calls me mommy in a jokey way when he wants something, they know how to get what they want, but mummy stopped about 7.

LadyMontdore · 03/02/2012 18:25

My DH still calls his mother mummy Blush on his behalf.

stephrick · 03/02/2012 18:26

oh by the way DS is 14

Elsjas · 03/02/2012 18:26

Dd1 (11) calls me Mum in front other friends and Mummy at any other time. Ds1 (6) still calls me Mummy.

fhdl34 · 03/02/2012 23:30

I still call my mum mummy and I'm 34. Not posh either, she just didn't like mum

Valpollicella · 03/02/2012 23:34

I am still Mamma (italian in me!) or Mummy. DS is 5.5

I used Mamma until I was about 10yo - it has less babyish connotations in Italian afairemember. Then I switched to Just Ma.

I'd rather Ma then Mum Grin

workshy · 03/02/2012 23:38

my 10yo calls me mummy apart from when her friends are in earshot

I stopped calling my mum mummy in reception because I was told it was babyish!

Alicious · 03/02/2012 23:40

My DM is 60 and she still calls her mum 'Mummy.' It makes me wince every time!

DS1 is 4 and has started calling me 'mum'

Unfortunately DS2 who is 14 months is now calling me 'mum' (in the exact same whiny tone as DS1. I was looking forward to being called mummy again! :(

QED · 03/02/2012 23:41

DS is 8 and calls me Mummy but refers to me as Mum to his friends etc.

DD is 6 and I am definitely Mummy

lisaro · 03/02/2012 23:41

Still do when they're after something, 22, 19 and 18.
