At the moment mine doesnt go to sleep until any time between 9 and 10 at night ,depending on when and how long he has slept during the day . This means that i get very little time to myself on an evening . When do yours sleep during the day and for how long ? He is only just two .

It's a while ago now but my then 2 yo was a regular 7pm guy. Around that age he'd nap for an hour most mornings and an hour or a bit longer most afternoons. 6.30pm we started the bedtime routine of bath, warm milk, story etc.... As he got to 3 yo he dropped the morning nap and it was only starting school that stopped the afternoon naps! Even now, age 11, he flags around 9pm and turns in.

SanTEEClaus · 16/12/2011 08:01

Mine is 2.6 and is just starting to drop his nap. But if he does nap it's for between 1 and 1.5 hours just after lunch, so starting around 1230.

We then start bed time between 630 and 7 depending on how long dinner takes and he is usually asleep by 730, 8 on some nights.

7pm latest.

And during the day he sleeps from 11-2 normally some times less. If he hasn't had a nap by 3 he doesn't go for one to keep bedtime normal.

mousysantamouse · 16/12/2011 08:11

8:15
at least in theory. she sleeps an hour or two on the days she is at nursery, but doesn't have a nap on the days she's at home. on home days she goes to sleep quickly on nursery (long nap) days she talks to herself and teddies for half an hour or so before dropping off.

SardineJam · 16/12/2011 08:13

DS1 is 2.8 and he still has a daytime nap around 12 for about an hour. We usually take him upstairs at about 19.30, after a bath, read books, and then to bed, so around 20.00

RaraGigglePixie · 16/12/2011 10:04

At just turned 2yrs old he was still having a 1 1/2-2hr nap and then being in bed for 7pm. That was when his younger brother was going to bed at 6/6.30 pm though.

Now ds2 doesn't go bed until 7pm so 2yr old gets to stay up until 7.30 watching Peppa/Ben and holly whatever then we have half hour o quiet story time and he's in bed at 8pm

Lovethesea · 16/12/2011 10:11

DD 7pm at that age with a two hour nap in the day. (still 7pm now at 3 with no nap)

DS is 18 months and goes at 7pm and naps for 45 minutes in the day, but not every day anymore!

BsshBossh · 16/12/2011 10:36

7pm. Still does at 3.5.

She dropped her naps at 24 months. Before that time she would wake any time from 5.30am; after dropping naps she'd wake around 7am or after.

But 7pm bedtime has always been the same.

Iggly · 16/12/2011 10:51

7-7.30 plus a 90 min nap. He sleeps for about 11 hours overnight.

We try and get him outside every day so he's using up loads of energy.

BlueChampagne · 16/12/2011 11:44

DS2 just turned 2, and has 30 min nap in day; bed 8pm. Up 7am weekdays but sometimes manages longer at weekends.

Sibling4 · 16/12/2011 11:59

Ds naps for 3 hrs given the chance. Somedays less. He's in bed somewhere between 7.30 and 8.30 and wakes between 8 and 9 am which suits my lazy morning approach

pud1 · 16/12/2011 12:03

If my dd is not in bed by 6pm she is evil. She gets so tired. She has dropped all naps

frumpet · 16/12/2011 12:10

thank you for all your replies , sounds as though i need to get a bit better organised with him , dd who is 9 is moaning that its not fair he gets to stay up later than her !

6:15 to 7 ish depending on tiredness.
I like the children to be asleep by 8 at the very latest so I can have my evening. Grin
Ds2 is 2 and a half so has either a very short nap or no nap at all. If I let him sleep, he would not be so tired in evening.

Have you tried to get him to sleep a bit earlier in the day? So, he's still had a good stretch of being awake and running around before he goes to bed early in the evening.

Staverton · 16/12/2011 12:18

My 2 yr old has dropped her nap. If she falls asleep in day, even just for 15 mins she's awake until 9pm. If she doesn't have a nap she's asleep by 730 and sleeps 12+ hours
Maybe he's ready to drop nap completely?

MudAndGlitter · 16/12/2011 12:18

6-6:30. His choice although I'm not complaining

JoInScotland · 16/12/2011 12:19

Our routine is constrained by the fact that our son wakes up at 5am or maybe 5:30 if we're lucky. We have blackout blinds and live in Scotland, where the sunsets at 3:20pm just now and doesn't rise until 8:30am or something similar, so we've done our best.... he's just a lark and there's nothing we can do about it.

So we have dinner at 5pm and get upstairs by 6, to get teeth brushed, pajamas on, stories and try to leave his room by 6:30 so that he's asleep by 7pm. If he's had enough fresh air, exercise, mental stimulation and dinner that happens. Otherwise he talks and cries a bit until 7:30 or occasionally 8pm if not feeling well and trying to get us back (bit clingy since I was in hospital for a week quite recently).

He naps 12-2 very consistently and we wish he would sleep at night as well as he naps during the day to be honest. Any later and he's pushing back his bedtime, and then waking up even EARLIER strangely.

I can't wait until he's a teenager who doesn't want to wake up in the morning.

BaronessBomburst · 16/12/2011 12:22

So it's not just my DS then? He is 22 months, doesn't nap in the day, and doesn't go down until between 9 and 10pm. If he has napped in the day, it will be 11pm. :( He doesn't sleep through the night either, and gets up about 8.30 am. Apparently, I was just the same, and so was DH, but he was given a sedative (it was the 60's). We just seem to be a family of non-sleepers! At least he doesn't get grumpy though.

lynniep · 16/12/2011 12:23

DS2 still naps - usually for just over an hour. He goes upstairs at the same time as his older brother, which is about 6.45. They have a bath or a wash and theres a bit of fighting over the bath toys, then I get them ready for bed and theres a bit of fighting over who gets who to read to them. They have about 15 minutes reading time then lights out. DS1 (4.9) is usually asleep by 7.30. DS2 does some protesting, then either conks out immediately or sings and yells for an hour or so.
So I guess anywhere between 7 and 8 depending on the tiredness factor.

cece · 16/12/2011 12:25

Mine is two and half. He goes to bed between 7 and 8pm. Up anytime from 6 am onwards... Has on average about 2 hours nap during the day. This is my third DC and ime if they don't get enough sleep in the day then their night sleep is worse. No idea why but it just seems to be the case.

When they go crazy at about 7pm - running around like a wild thing then that is a sign that they are too tired and need to be put to bed.

Methe · 16/12/2011 12:26

6 - 6.30. sleeps untill 7 usually, occasionally 8

DD dropped her nap as she turned two. Our night time became steadily calmer and when she started school we got a proper bed time routine and a 7.30 bedtime. Bliss!

Good luck.

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 16/12/2011 14:12

DS will be 2 next week. He wakes at 7am and naps at about 12.45.

If he naps for 2 hours he'll be sleepy after being up for 6.5 hours - ie 9.30pm ish. I wake him after 1.5 hours' nap which means he's awake for 6 hours, and he's usually asleep by 8.15 - 8.45. If he only naps for 45 minutes he needs to go to bed 5 hours later.

He definitely needs that nap. He missed it the other day and as a result he was Wide Awake And Unhappy About It 6 times in the night. He normally wakes 1-4 times a night, but goes off again pretty quickly & easily.

He's always needed less sleep than the average and was the first baby I know IRL to move from 3 naps to 2, then from 2 to 1. I'd like more of an evening, but I like the naptime too much to want to shorten it any more!

If a long nap means a late bedtime, I'd shorten it to 45 minutes (that's one sleep cycle) and try for an earlier bedtime.
