Bambino Mio - Honest Opinions please?

My sister has a 5 month old and is thinking about using these. I haven't any experience of them myself (used terries, ME and tots bots - but gave them all away!).

Anyone used them and what are they like?

rubbish apparently.

Gillian76 · 10/01/2006 10:25

Have you used them misdee, or just general opinion?

general opinion i belive.

contact team lollipop and if there is an agent in the area they can loan out nappies for trial.

I used them, and hated them. It could have been down to DD's bum shape though - they were ok with wee (but not great), but any poo just came off the prefold bit and all over the wrap, so with teething (when I first tried them) I needed a fresh wrap each time.

washabums is a cloth forum... I have a feeling that they have had good and bad reviews on there.

katzg · 10/01/2006 10:36

i used them and they leaked, really baddly, these are also the nappies given away free by most councils! not sure why but they do make fanstatic washable changing mat pads, i found them great for baby massage, as booth my DD's would pee during the massage and these adsorbed brilliantly!! just useless as nappies!

Wordsmith · 10/01/2006 10:38

Agree with Flamesparrow. I used them 5 yrs ago for DS1. They were horrid. You could never wash the stains off the outer wrap. I gave up after a few weeks. Don't have experience of any others as I swopped to disposables and have stayed there ever since.

Wordsmith · 10/01/2006 10:39

katzg - yes!! I use them as mats on the changing station too. They're great for that.

misdee · 10/01/2006 10:45

for cheap (but not great with runny baby poo) then terries folded with a jo fold, secured with a nippa, and then a good wrap over the top (motherease airflow or aplix) will contain pretty much everuthing. use a fleece liner as well.

but if you have a bit more cash then go for tots bots and ME wraps with fleece liners.

Gillian76 · 10/01/2006 10:48

I have been looking at reviews on ciao.co.uk as well and it seem to be a poo leakage problem.

Cheap is crucial which is why she's reluctant to splash out on the tots bots. I wasn't overly impressed with the terries I have to say.

BM are selling a shaped newborn thingy which is supposed to help with the runny poo. I wonder...

Maybe it was they way I folded the terries then. Hmmm....

Jo fold?

have you contacted the council to see if they do a cashback scheme or free nappies?

Gillian76 · 10/01/2006 10:51

She is waiting on the info from the council. They do have a scheme but not sure of the details.

OP posts:
misdee · 10/01/2006 10:52

jo fold

misdee · 10/01/2006 10:53

i tuck the terry nappy in around the legs after securing, and make it slightly smaller and less likely to leak.

Gillian76 · 10/01/2006 10:54

Jo fold looks like a tots with nippa!

We are very close to where tots bots are manufactured so I wonder if the council will be supporting local business?!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 10/01/2006 10:55

Not reviewed anything on ciao for aaaaaages! I did a bambino one as one of my very first reviews....

misdee · 10/01/2006 10:56

ooo i hope so fgor your sisters sake.

the jo fold is v good and easy to do. but i'd get a couple of tots for overnight usuage.

try babykind.co.uk for offers on wraps. they sometimes have ME on sale.

Laura032004 · 10/01/2006 11:37

Would she try 2nd hand nappies? There are always loads on the ukparents website. She might be able to pick up Tots quite cheaply, and will be safe in the knowledge they always have resale value

Gillian76 · 10/01/2006 12:06

Not sure about second hand nappies. Will ask her though, thanks.

If she wants birth to potty, I've been really impressed with Onelife - I got 5 second-hand and they are really stretchy (I didn't get on at all well with ME or Popolini, so these were a surprise).

Gillian76 · 11/01/2006 14:00

Not keen on second hand I'm afraid, so still have an eye on the budget.

Never heard of Onelife. Will have a look about for them.

Gillian76 · 11/01/2006 14:02

Just found them. They look just like the MEOS don't they? Are they different?

OP posts:
vkone · 11/01/2006 14:50

They are v similar, the main difference is they've got more elastic at legs and back than MEOS so containment is better, when I tried MEOS on DS (aged 1 at the time), they kept drooping and he had a serious case of builder's bum! The Onelife fit him at age 2 on the 2nd to last popper and I'm hoping they'll go til potty training. Also the fabric doesn't seem to spread the wetness half as much as the ME fabric does.

The one thing I really like about the one sizes is that they are quick drying (my Sandy's seem to tak forever to dry)

vkone · 11/01/2006 14:53

Oh forgot to add Onelife (like Cotton Bottoms and BM) seem to come up on eBay as new bundles quite often - I think poeple get given a set by a friend and then sell them on, so you could probably pick up a whole set for, say, half price.

Gillian76 · 16/01/2006 09:59

Wow, sis got the info from the council and they are offering a FREE Tots Bots pack worth £100!

She gets 10 nappies, 2 covers, 1 laundry mesh, 5 booster pads and 1 pack paper liners.

Needless to say she's going for it!

And when we get round to number 4...
