a poll for those who have tried naturally to swing the gender of their baby when TTC

iloveberries · 07/12/2011 15:10

i am TTC DC#2. I would take either gender very gratefully but fascinated in this area and it's a hot topic with friends so i'm undertaking a poll.

Please only respond if you tried to swing the gender of your DC.

  1. What gender were you trying for?
  2. What did you do?
  3. What did you get?
  4. If you already had DCs what did you have already?

I hope it goes without saying that every child is a blessing but i know lots of people have preferences so i am interested to hear your stories.....

I have a DS, aged 14months. He wasn't planned, so I didnt do anything specific to swing the gender, but I have looked into this since, and I concieved DS on the 2nd day of ov, plus in a position where (maybe tmi!) dh was on top. apparently both these things mean a boy!

iloveberries · 08/12/2011 10:09

vicky my DS was conceived bang on ov too...

anyone else want to plaY?!

I'm going to be a stick in the mud and not play.
It's 50/50, it's random.
I tried for a baby twice. I was lucky enough to get two healthy babies twice.

But, I'm tempted to go on about the positions we did for some reason Blush I won't !!!

Didn't try for either sex particularly but with DD1 we had sex and I ovulated 2 days later, with DD2 we had sex and I ovulated a day later.

ChestnutsREASTIEingOnTheFire · 08/12/2011 10:28

I didn't try anything but a friend of mine told me after I had DD that apparently vegetarians are more likely to have girls - something to do with their diet creating more acid or alkali conditions down there which the lady sperm prefer could have been codswallop though . I'm veggie as are 2 of my friends and we all had girls Hmm

ThatsNotSantasBabyBelly · 08/12/2011 10:33

My 2 vegetarian friends had boys. What are the chances? Grin

PosiesOfPoinsettia · 08/12/2011 12:22

Yes.
Tried for a girl.
Only had sex up to one day before ovulation.
Got a girl.

PosiesOfPoinsettia · 08/12/2011 12:22

Already had two boys,

After had another boy,
.

Tonksforthememories · 08/12/2011 13:02

Already had 2 DDs
Sex on day of ov.
'Right' postion
Had DS

ChestnutsREASTIEingOnTheFire · 08/12/2011 13:11

Grin thatsnot . There goes that idea Wink

sheeplikessleep · 08/12/2011 13:36
  1. Swung favour in direction of girl (in theory!)
  2. We dtd 6 days before getting the positive on the OPK
  3. Got DS1
  4. Now have two gorgeous sons
sheeplikessleep · 08/12/2011 13:37

I was veggie when conceived DS1 (not with DS2).

ChestnutsREASTIEingOnTheFire · 08/12/2011 13:45

I googled the veggie thing and found this:

  • a vegetarian diet places stress on the female body, meaning that female foetuses, which are known to be more robust, survive, while male foetuses are killed off
  • a vegetarian diet changes the acidity of the vaginal secretions, creating a hostile environment for sperm carrying male genetic information
  • the diet contains chemicals which mimic the action of female sex hormones such as oestrogen
PurpleWithaBlueBun · 08/12/2011 13:54

I am pretty sure I conceived on Father's day and I am having a boy...

lubeybaublely · 08/12/2011 13:57

DD wasn't planned but me and her dad were at it like rabbits all the time - once or twice a day around the time she was conceived, and I've since learnt that I'm usually a bang on day 14 ovulator. So there would have been the sperm already there from the days before ov, and new ones bring up the rear too - and DD is DD, so obviously that (and puking resulting in pill failure) resulted in a girl

Hypnobirthingmum · 08/12/2011 18:35

According to what I've read male sperm swims very fast and female sperm tend to live longer so the theory is that sex early on in the cycle leads to more girls and sex around on day of ovulation tends to lead to more boys. Conceived on day 17 of cycle and had a boy so this worked in our case.

gemma4d · 08/12/2011 18:46
  1. Boy
  2. Timing (sex as close as poss/just after ovulation, deep penetration, 'come' with or just before him, not after.
  3. Girl
  4. Girl
sheeplikessleep · 08/12/2011 18:50

As I know I ovulated 6 days AFTER dtd and had a boy (and not after this point), these things are never guaranteed. But then we did it as a bit of fun really and didn't take it too seriously.

iloveberries · 08/12/2011 20:01

thanks ladies - usually you only hear the people who it's 'worked' for so it's good to hear all the mixed stories.

anymore out there?

lurcherlover · 08/12/2011 21:43

We didn't consciously try for one or the other but dtd on ov day (I was using the clearblue monitor) and got a ds. I was convinced from the day I got a BFP that it would be a boy as a result of the timing, and I was right! I might try and time it to a day or two before ov next time we ttc to vaguely try for a girl, but another boy would be just as lovely so I'm not that bothered.

Sparklyboots · 08/12/2011 21:46

I am a vegetarian - sometimes a vegan! - and I have a boy.

Assisted conception so swimmers given all the help they could get and there bang on ovulation. Dd1, then ds, then dd2. Convinced they were boys every time because of all the reading i'd done!

bumpybecky · 09/12/2011 11:01

#1 tried for a baby - got a baby :) was (and still is!) a girl :)
#2 tried for a baby - got another baby! another girl :)
#3 tried for a boy - got another girl :)
#4 tried for a boy again - got a boy :)

at that point DH put his foot down and said no more experimenting :(

with #3 I charted for months, and we waited until ovulation before dtd (having abstained for days) and only did it once, still got girl :)

with #4 I tried the diet, made me feel ill so stopped! we used ovulation stick things to pee on, no sex for days before, only dtd once on day of ovulation. Took much longer to conceive (from memory it was about 10 months, compared to a total of 5 months for all 3 dds). This time we we're 'successful' :)

bumpybecky · 09/12/2011 11:02

to clarify - it was me that weed on the ovulation sticks - not dh.... Hmm
