How old was your DC when you stopped feeding in the middle of the night?

Just wondered really.

DS is 8 weeks old, fully formula fed, and currently has around 3oz anytime between 2am and 3am (dreamfeed is at 10pm). This feed has been getting gradually smaller - and last night he only had 2oz - his usual daytime feed is 5/6oz. I'm thinking of reducing it gradually myself to see what happens - am really hoping he stops waking up for it soon as I have a toddler too and am knackered!!

(also posting on breast/bottle feeding board btw, but thought there might be more traffic here)

Thanks

7pm ish until 7am ish

dc1, bottle fed 7 weeks
dc2, breast fed 4ish months
dc3 breast fed - had undiagnosed silent reflux so up and down all over the place
dc4 breast fed fairly regularly from 10 days old then reliably from about 3 weeks old.

PelvicF1oorOfSteel · 26/11/2011 21:34

DS1 - first slept through around 10 weeks(ish), started waking for a feed again for 17 week growth spurt, slept through reliably from 18 weeks.

DS2 - is currently 10 months and has never slept through, still shows no signs of even considering it, feeds several times a night and sometimes for hours at a time .

Middle of night stopped around 16 months - yawn.

About 10 weeks, I think, for my FF one. It is one of the benefits of FF - my BF child was over 9 months!!!

scarlettsmummy2 · 26/11/2011 21:38

I think my daughter was going from 11pm ish until 6/7 am by about 10 weeks. She was breastfed, and I often brought her into bed with me, which I think helped.

AngelDog · 26/11/2011 21:42

All depends on the child - I'll be chuffed if I manage it by the time DS is 2.

sleeplessinderbyshire · 26/11/2011 21:43

about 18 or 20 months here

Seona1973 · 26/11/2011 21:51

dd (ff) was 5 1/2 months
ds (also ff) was 8 months

makes no difference whether bf or ff

insanityscratching · 26/11/2011 21:58

Mine were six weeks old but even before that I'd dream feed at 11ish and they'd get up at 6 am.
Very rarely had to get up in the night tbh I was very lucky

iFailedTheTuringTest · 26/11/2011 22:06

18 months, we have had 3, count em, 3 full nights sleep.

RitaMorgan · 26/11/2011 22:13

Dropped the 3am feed around 6 months and the 11pm one about 9 months.

cookingfat · 26/11/2011 22:19

About 9mo (three weeks ago), ff.

exoticfruits · 26/11/2011 22:22

They were bf, but after about 9 months they got a drink of water in the night.

NinthWave · 26/11/2011 22:25

DS1 about 9 months I think (BF)

DS2 is 13mo and had stopped, but then he got Hand, Foot & Mouth virus and was off his food so started feeding at night as he started asking again. Stopped again now (tho he's been poorly today so may well ask again tonight - he can sign 'milk' so I know when he wants a feed which is useful!)

Tamdin · 26/11/2011 22:35

Ds1 can't remember but about a year I'd guess (bf) and ds2 (bf) is 11 months and is still waking every few hours to 'feed' (use me as a dummy!)
Am so tired I can't be bothered to try and do something about it but I know I have to. Sigh.....

effingwotsits · 26/11/2011 22:36

I'm lay here with a 17 month old stuck to my boob Confused

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 26/11/2011 22:38

My first child was 15 months when he stopped waking up every two hours for a feed.

I remember that because he stopped when my second child was born. Grin

onefatcat · 26/11/2011 22:40

Round 11 months i think! Slept through from just after 12 months- used a dummy to substitute feed.

JoInScotland · 26/11/2011 22:43

When DS was 10 months old and went into his own room, at last. He had silent reflux and was undiagnosed for about 3-4 months, so I was quite keen to get some sleep again.... but it was really hard not going to him when he cried, and it was hard to deal with the night-time engorgement. He's 22 months and still breastfeeding, though down to 2 feeds a day. However, when he's not feeling well (like now) he can still feed for Scotland!

lechatnoir · 26/11/2011 22:51

DS1 (bf) c. 4.5 mths and DS2 (ff) c. 8 months so sorry, but I reckon you've got at least another couple of months to go yet Grin

PogoBob · 26/11/2011 23:00

DD is 15mo and still feeds at night

AngelDog · 27/11/2011 08:13

Of course, night feeds and night wakings are often a different kettle of fish. Lots of children night wean but still wake at night.

DS has been down to 1 feed a night for quite long periods of time (13-15 months, 17-18 months) but teething and developmental leaps always mess it up and at 23 m.o. he feeds about 5 times a night. A week ago he slept through twice though. Grin

SuckItAndSee · 27/11/2011 08:21

dd2 - 6mo (ff)
dd1 - 5mo (bf)

you probably don't want to know how long dd2 continued to wake at night even though she didn't want milk.....

Octaviapink · 27/11/2011 12:38

Both were breastfed - DD stopped night feeds at about 9 months, DS at 11. In both cases it was obvious when they weren't actually hungry overnight any more, but I wasn't going to force the issue - as long as they were hungry I was going to feed them.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 27/11/2011 14:32

18 months. But they weren't really feeds, comfort sucking. And that had stopped working in terms of getting DD to nod off quickly, so DH started dealing with night wakings and bingo, DD was night-weaned. Fully weaned a month later, sleeps much better now. Smile
