Do you have a special song for your DCs?

Like a kind of "our song" if you see what I mean?

For DD1, it's Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet, and for DD2 it's "To Make You Feel My Love", the Adele version.

Although they are not songs about children, babies or childhood, both of these songs have me welling up and filling with love for my beautiful girls... so I just wondered if anyone has a similar story?

Whatevertheweather - Sad

I sing Morningtown Ride to my DDs if they wake in the night due to nightmares. It's the one thing guaranteed to calm them and relax them enough to go back to sleep.

DS1- You are my sunshine. I have him singing this as my ringtone. I know how twee this is btw.

DS2- Moon River

DD1- Daisy Bell, because that's her name!

All three were what I used to sing to them when pg and in the bath.

DD demands Graceland on a loop in the car, we've been listening to it (used to be the album, now only that song) here and there for the last 2 years (she's 2.6), ever since I had a desire for some African-influenced rythms when pregnant (South African national anthem anyone??) I was just thinking the other day what kind of emotional memory Graceland will give her when she's older.

I sing Morningtown as she drops off to sleep, or Baby Beluga (both on a Raffi CD).

When she was teeny I used to dance with her to My Girl and cry. Occasionally sing a couple of lines of You are My Sunshine. Keep meaning to learn more songs, some great ideas here.

Daddy Big Boots. It's more a father/son type of song - but youtube it, it's fab!

You are my sunshine, or 'sunshine' as DS calls it. Hence my name!

CMOTdibbler · 07/11/2011 21:22

'I love you baby' - ds sings to me now and we all all the dah dah bit together.

'Marig Ar Pollanton' - Breton language song that DD always liked, even settled her in utero. Not a clue what it's about though....
At the moment she particularly likes - and sings - a certain song about an elderly Scottish gentleman that owned an agricultural establishment... E-I-E-I-O...

We are a bit corny and unoriginal here
DS: a lullaby called Golden Slumbers
DD: My girl

NunTheWiser · 09/11/2011 05:52

We're Morningtown Ride here. Sing it every night to my DC before bedtime. DD1 is putting herself to bed these days and I really miss singing it to her.

DS is only 3 weeks old and so far it is Summertime (which my mom sang to me) and Sea of Love. It was only this week that I've been able to sing it without getting all choked up.

Clandy · 09/11/2011 19:32

You are my sunshine and "I see trees of green..." can't remember who by or what it's called though. Definitely never ever sing Staceys mom with words changed to dd's name

sunnybobs · 09/11/2011 19:52

Hush little baby don't say a word, mama's going to buy you a mocking bird :) and all its crazy verses. It's same song my grandma used to sing to me & when I had my DS I was amazed how much I could remember. Also you are my sunshine which was one of my dads songs. Love them both & knowing the words helps!

CMOTdibbler - think yours is the same as me but I wasn't sure of the name - "You're just to good to be true, can't keep my eyes off you, you feel like heaven to touch, I want to hold you so much . . ."

Also, a weird little ditty that my mum sang to me "Wie oh Hie oh, what will I do wi ye, Black's the life that I lead wi ye, Many of ye, little for to gie ye, Wie oh Hie oh, what'll I do wi ye"
