Venue- coffee bar

Person 1 chooses a particular cake for their child as they feel it is the most appropriate for their child and orders it.

PErson 2 allows their own child to choose a fairly unhealthy but appealing to kids cake.

PErson 1 then says Oh is you get that I will have to cancel what I've ordered for my child and order the same.

Both look at each other in silence.

Person 2 says well thats all mychild wants and I dont know what to get for child if not that.

Person 1 then cancels order to get their child the same.

is person 1 a first time parent then?

Twiglett · 21/12/2005 19:16

and person 2 on at least 2nd child due to jaded allowance of 'anything for a quiet life'

Mercy · 21/12/2005 19:21

There is no right or wrong! Cake evrey day, whatever it is, is not 'healthy' but as a treat, who cares?

What about the children concerned? Did they both eat it? (don't even know why I'm asking - I think I can guess the answer somehow!)

I dunno, some people just want to have their cake and eat it.

I'm of the "cake is hardly a healthy option anyway so may as well go the whole hog" school of thought

GeorginaA · 21/12/2005 19:25

LOL Mercy - x-post. I never understood that phrase "have your cake and eat it" - why have cake and NOT eat it, that's just daft!

jac34 · 21/12/2005 19:26

IMO people pander to their kids far too much.
My two know,if I buy a cake and they will not eat it,I will eat it and they will go with out.
Result: My kids eat any cake given.

I would be person 2 and do exactly as person 2 did - because apart from stealing bits of my child's unhealthy cake, I will be ordering the most sinful choc cake on the menu for myself. Won't want to teach my child to be a hypocrite.

Mistletoo · 22/12/2005 14:17

well herc - are you outing yourself? which one was you?

hercules · 22/12/2005 15:24

PErson 2 of course! Wouldnt have posted it if I was person 1!

I would have been person 2. At this time of year anything goes. If you are going to allow your child to have a cake then at least allow them to have a big chocolatey one that they will smear all over there face and clothes and be happy for the rest of the day!!!

hativity · 22/12/2005 16:04

IMHO these people should learn their lesson and should terminate mutual cake-eating outings for good. They are clearly fundamentally incompatible.

it's CAKE. I mean it's not like person one ordered a mung bean and turnip salad and the other ordered a Mc-slurry-sludge-whopper with rainbow coloured lard-drops.

and carrot cake has just as much fat and sugar in it as chocolate cake.

Mistletoo · 22/12/2005 16:45

rofl!

ISawFrannyandZooeyKissingSanta · 22/12/2005 19:44

Hercules, own up though, your child would have eaten the other cake really, you were just being arsey weren't you?

hercules · 22/12/2005 20:34

Yes, my child probably would have eaten the other cake but she wanted the more exciting looking one and I do like to indulge her occasionally. Maybe because I work 4 days.

Person 1 is probably out of order imo. She doesn't have to do anything! Depends on age of children/mood/usual rules for the children concerned (you get what you're given vs oh you must have the same as everyone else), all sorts really. I'd be inclined to let my child choose and sod anyone else tbh! I don't expect anyone else to follow.

WickedWinterWitch · 22/12/2005 20:41

Hadn't read thread but have now and am relieved that you were person 2!

WickedWinterWitch · 22/12/2005 20:42

I love mumsnet for these type of discussions, which rage in seriousness, marvelous! And lol at Hativity.

hercules · 22/12/2005 20:45

could never ask someone this in rl!
