Has anyone had their baby and not had a name for him/her?

Think this is a situation we might find ourselves in!

Did your baby just look like they suited a particular name when they were born? Or had you got one all lined up and then they just weren't a Humphrey (or whatever)?

And is it ever acceptable to call a child "the baby" until they're old enough to choose their own name?

ds2 wasn't decided on until he was born. I always had loads of girls names I loved but boys names were troublesome. Fave name went to ds1 so we were well and truly stuck but luckily came up one at just the right time.

The little one i look after (4 months) didn't have a name for 5 weeks - in fact half an hour before her mum registered she hadn't decided upon a name and asked me which of the 2 options i liked so i told her and that is the name se has. It really suits her those - much better than pickle which is what i was calling her

DD2 loves to be told the story of being called "Twinkle" for the first 4 weeks of her life, while we came up with something. She was also Louise for 2 days in hospital before we decided we didn't like it after all.
We eventually decided on the most popular girls name in the country! (We didn't know that at the time, though)

I am 31 weeks pregnant now and we have no names that we can agree on. DD2 has told me she doesn't mind if we call him/her Twinkle though...

Hi Hunker.
I remember having great fun helping friends and family with their babies names and thought I would really enjoy naming my own, boy was I wrong!
I actually found the whole thing quite scarey, what a responsibility and I don't think it was made easier by my husband who responded to each of my suggestions with "Nah, that's a dogs name!" It wouldn't have been as bad except he had no suggestions to offer at all this made me so I called ds Sonny whilst pregnant and then someone I know who I really don't like called her son this 3 weeks before my ds was born and it put me off. The only other name I liked was Henry and was all set to call him this again dh vetoed it and suggested a name that I had liked very early on in the pregnancy and that's what we went with. I'm really pleased as it really does suit him and I think it's a great name, not unusual or common.

I think if I ever have another ds I'd choose a name which was quite well used when I was a child. I love the name Johnny not sure how dh would feel about this.
