DSs have to dress up for Thurs hoping to recycle costumes we have already although I have gone brain dead at ideas from books?

We have fireman, police, construction worker, racing driver, doctor, pirate but they letter says they cant be characters from books which the tv series or film was produced first - any insight please?

we've got a skeleton outfit and are still trying to work out the book.

TheArmadillo · 28/02/2011 11:31

we're considering making up a book - they're not going to question them too closely I assume.

That or go non-fiction.

cazzybabs · 28/02/2011 11:37

TheArmadillo - the alberg skeleton books (you know in a dark street, there was a dark house etc)

Likewise isobelle - the happy family series by the albergs must tick a few of those off .. or the Richard scary what do people do all day book

How old? My DS (who loathes dressing up with a vengeance) is going as Alex Ryder - which means wearing jeans, trainers and a hoodie.

TheArmadillo · 28/02/2011 11:44

Thanks for that Smile

I hate these things

BlooCowWonders · 28/02/2011 12:09

my ds (aged 8) is like Jeee's - same clothes but 'Harry Potter' without his robes!

isobelle · 28/02/2011 14:23

thanks so these mine dont particularly enjoy it but are familiar with the outfits i mentioned since they were given them so wanted to make use...

I would ignore the bit about characters from TV as most TV shows are derived from books anyway Hmm

Jumper, jeans, wellies = George, from Georges Marvelous Medicine (bottle re-labelled with Marvelous Medicine optional).

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 28/02/2011 15:22

A friend of mine used a stripy jumper and hat, and sent her ds in as Wally from Where's Wally. I once sent ds2 in wearing shorts, a polo shirt and wellies and carrying a big umbrella, to be Christopher Robin from the Winnie the Pooh story where Pooh asks Christopher Robin to walk round under the tree with the beehive saying, 'Tut, tut, looks like rain.'

DS had outgrown most of his fancy dress. I went to home bargains bought him a doctor and policeman outfit (£4.99 each with accessories) and he chose the policeman. We then went to the library and found a book with a policeman in.

If you have brown top and trousers do gingread man. Paint a paperplate for face mask.

If I couldn't find anything he was going to go in his now half mast skeleton costume as skeleton from his superted books.

i am so glad dd's school don't do this

moogalicious · 28/02/2011 16:08

I wish our school didn't!

My dd is another one who hates dressing up and intends going in her normal clothes (jeans and t-shirt) - just need to think of a book. Anyone got any book ideas?

trubshawe · 28/02/2011 20:34

Judy Moody? How old is dd?
dd (6) is going as Lola. Nice & easy!

Malcolmshungrybear · 01/03/2011 12:26

How about Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs? -or two years ago we did Mr Bump (blue sweatshirt and trousers and lots of bandages) and Dick Whittington (check shirt, brown cord trousers with patches, knotted hanky filled with newspaper on the end of a stick and a soft toy cat!)

moogalicious · 01/03/2011 12:43

dd is 8. Who's Judy Moody? Sounds like my dd! Was thinking she could go as Tracey Beaker, minus the curly hair.

moogalicious · 01/03/2011 12:44

Dick Whittington sounds good for my ds, if I can talk him out of going as Darth Vader for the second year running Hmm

strandednomore · 01/03/2011 12:47

I am very Envy that you actually get to choose your dc's costumes.

Dd2 will be Belle whether I like it or not. I would love to get creative....

abeautifulbutterfly · 01/03/2011 12:48

My DD has just done Pippi Longstocking - I sewed a few random patches onto a tunic, odd socks, soft toy monkey round neck, pigtails and if nec. eyeliner/face-painted freckles (tho my DD didn't need this!!). We also made a huge cardboard horse but that would be optional...

QueenOfTheMadhouse · 01/03/2011 12:51

My DCs school had world book day today for some reason and they had to dress up not just as a character from a book, they had to be in Shakesperian costumes!....Would have loved to be able to choose any book Grin

moogalicious · 01/03/2011 12:53

I suggested Pippi Longstocking. Dd said no but I might suggest what you said abeautifulbutterfly to see if she'll change her mind.

moogalicious · 01/03/2011 12:54

queenofthemadhouse why do schools do this? We have so many dressing up days, by the time they're in year 3 I've run out of ideas!

Ineedalife · 01/03/2011 16:56

Dd3 has a Tracy Beaker obsession going on so she is going as older Tacey with the plaits, a red sweatshirt from asda £2.50 with a big T sewn on the front and a pair of leggins job done.

Dd1 went as the lion the witch and the wardrobe once[when I was younger and livelier], she had a white sheet for the witch, with a wardrobe door painted on it and a piece or fur fabric over herhead, it looked great but took a bit of imaginationSmile.

Good luck everyoneSmile.
