Never! Why would you take away something of comfort. We do encourage the DDs (well mainly DD2) to leave it at home (unless we go away) as it used to end up getting lost quite often or I'd have to have eyes like a hawk but I really don;t see the harm in them having a special toy / blanket / etc that gives thrm comfort whatever their age.

Ahhh read some of your later posts, I can understand why now! Apart from getting another one exactly the same not sure what else you can do really.

Can you pretend that a teddy (or something) has spilt something on and it has to be washed so he can see you put it in the machine, then when its ready hey presto pull out a new one?

Ahhh let the comforters stay!

DD 2 has lovie (3 of them to be precise, thankfully all interchangeable!) and her thumb. She only really uses either when she sleeps or is upset, but as lovie is small he tends to go with us everywhere.

I would much rather she gave up the thumb than her lovies, but won't even be thinking about that until she's 3.

DS is 7 and has a bear. And many other soft toys :)
DD is 5 and has two special bears and lots of other soft toys
DH is 35 and has a cuddly animal
I am 35 and have a mankyblanket type thing.

We are all (relatively) normal.

3 pages oo this is so exciting!! hee hee hee!

Needanewname I've tried buying the exact same but he knows, I even spent a silly amount of money in mothercare(is it 2 words or 1?) buying him a bunny teddy that was made out of the same material...looking back I dont know why as it would still be the same problem and at least manky blankets can be washed easily!

I dont know if you all have seen but its that fluffy yellow one from primark, tho his is a vomit green colour thanks to washing it with my jeans(oops)

I thought bottles could give you wonky teeth rather than guaranteeing rot but I might be completely wrong about that. And I sucked my thumb until I was 13 and my top teeth are fine, so clearly does depend on genes or something else as well. I didn't read the other thread though so perhaps I should stop commenting! DS1 left his special friend on a cruise ship nine years ago. When we phoned up they said "items of low value are destroyed". Low value! I think not.

We bought a similar friend on USA ebay (was an American toy sent to UK by my brother), had it sent to USA and brother posted it to us in UK.

The friend, and DS1, are doing their Masters at Uni now. Every term the friend (he's a stuffed animal btw) comes home for a lovely roundabout ride (in the washing machine). Then he sits on the radiator to recover. He's not allowed outside to dry in the fresh air in case a fox gets him.

He's looking older now. He's been through a lot.

DS is 4 and has a a penguin comforter. He sucks his thumb and rubs the penguins flipper against his top lip as he sucks his thumb. I bought loads of spares from ebay (rather annoyingly as he was a free gift with fabric conditioner!) and we used to have 2 that i swapped over so i could wash the other one but one of them got lost in Morrisons and he won't accept the brand new ones because they're fluffy! DD is 2.6 and doesn't have a teddy but also loves her thumb and the dentist has told us she needs to stop as her teeth are getting pushed out but i've no idea how i'm going to stop her short of cutting off her thumb and i'm not looking forward to it. With both of them i was going to wait until it was their decision to drop their comforter.
