How about 'Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar'? If you don't know it let me know I'll type it out for you.....(and I suppose you could change it to 'biscuit' if you were wanting to remain Anglo!)

Robinw, When my son joined the Beavers, I took a look at their website and saw they had printed the words to some of their songs. Perhaps a bit of surfing will get you to a Brownies website - sorry I can't provide a link.

Years ago I was also a Brownie helper, but unfortunately pregnancy has 'pickled my brain' and I can not for the life of me remember the words to various songs BUT......you can get info etc....There was a monthly magazine called 'Brownie' which was full of ideas & inspirations. The actual 'Brown Owl' in charge should also be able to provide you with various bits. Alternatively you could always suggest a trip to the head quarters up in London where there is always a lot of stuff available. We went quite a few times with our pack and the girls loved it! I'm surprised the people in charge or the area commissioner has not given you some start up info, they were so helpful to me when I helped out...gave me all sorts of books & leaflets. They normally hand out things to new girls who join as brownies so they should have something....SORRY IT'S NOT MUCH HELP but really the Brownies is quite a large organisation some one in your district should be able to help...

Try these two websites - they have lots of songs.

Are you enjoying the Brownies?

Cawthorne · 15/09/2001 14:14

my mum was a brown owl so I had years of the songs.
Some 'talky' songs (none of us could sing) were little rabbit foo foo, going on a bear hunt. Theres also 'the quartermasters stores ' ('my eyes are dim.....' good because the kids can make up there own verses)There was also one about red indians but I'm not sure how pc that is now.
Good luck with running a pack, mum did it for years and I thouroughly enjoyed helping

Need some help please. My daughter likes me to sing 'Daisy, Daisy' to her in the evening. However, I don't know all the words! Don't know the line in between 'I can't afford the carriage' and 'A bicycle made for two.'

Please help, she's getting fed up of my 'doo do do, do do do do'! Thanks.

jodee · 04/04/2002 19:33

Here it is:

Daisy Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look sweet on the seat
Of a bicycle built for two !

I know a ruder version but I'll keep that to myself!

Tinker · 04/04/2002 22:27

Oh, jodee! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can surprise her tomorrow - she knew I was asking on here!

fp · 04/04/2002 23:09

Or there's my dh's version, when fed up singing the same song over and over but before children can understand :
Baby, baby,
Baby all covered in poo
You're very smelly
So we're getting rid of you
You can't choose your parents,
It's all about genetics,
But you look sweet
Pooing in your seat
And we love you!

I have exactly the same problem with most of the songs I sing to my children. I was half thinking of starting a similar thread, but now someone else has, here goes for starters...

Does anyone know all the words to The Ash Grove? Ok, its sentimental Victorian claptrap, but I do find the tune irresistable.

And do any of you French speakers know all the words of Un oiseau m'a dit Bon Voyage, mon ami...

Another frustrating favourite with lots of humming is Yellow Bird up high in Banana Treeeeeee... I know the first verse, but there are a few gaps in the last part.

Any offers???

sml · 05/04/2002 08:16

Ps, here's my potty training song, which seemed to work on my 2 year old - it produced lots of delighted giggling and a firm denial.

Oh dear what can the matter be?
doesn't want to go to the lava-tree!
He prefers to doit in his na-appy
is not a smart boy!

chick · 05/04/2002 10:22

i love finding things for people on the net!!!

sml - there seems to be many versions of the ash grove out there, i teach at a primary school and there is a lovely lady who voluntarily comes in to teach singing and she taught my class the ash grove... i think it's a lovely tune too! i did a search on google with the first line and came up with oodles of versions... but this one seems to be the one i am familiar with...

www.blueroebuck.com/Tree_Web/ash_grove.htm

if you did the same search, you could pick the one you like!!

Robinw - whilst searching for the ash grove i came across this website... filled with camp songs, maybe something which you were after?

members.aol.com/GSTroop362/songbook.htm

happy singing all!!!

Art · 05/04/2002 18:15

sml,

Vaguely remembered Yellow bird from recorder club when I was 7!

Yellow bird, high up in banana tree,
Yellow bird you sit all alone like me.
Did your lady friend leave the nest again?
That is very bad, makes me feel so sad.
You can fly away, in the sky (up high?)
You're more lucky than me.

That was all I could come up with, is there more?

I think Ill have it on the brain for the rest of the evening!

susanmt · 05/04/2002 20:34

in the sky away!!
Hey, I must have had the same recorder book as you!!!

sml · 08/04/2002 08:21

thank you susan, art and chick - I will definitely check the url when I have time.
There is more of yellow bird - there is another 2 verses, or maybe more!

One goes something like:
Now I wish that I
was a yellow bird
I would have flied away with you
But since I'm not
I'm not a yellow bird
Here I sit just waiting
with nothing else to do!

and the other is something like

I also had
had a pretty bird
She not with me today...

and I don't know the rest. It always bugs me that I finish up humming it!

ks, can't help with the words but can hear that lovely tune even now.
I contacted the BBC a while back trying to find out if the Singing Together songbooks were still in print - I think Marianina and other family faves like Apusskiduski, Down to the Meadowlands, etc, were on this radio programme in the 60s and 70s. They weren't able to help, unfortunately. Anyone else got any bright ideas other than burgling your local primary school?

OOh I love that song too! Thanks for bringing back lovely memories. My 2 are very into "Gilly Gilly oxenpepper" at the minute - does anyone remember THAT?! And as for singing together, I have no idea where it could be gotten hold of, but I can still play Aarirang(?) on the recorder from it!
