License to Brag - A small thing that made you proud of your DC(s) today.

Today my DS (4.4) went to the toilet, finished the toilet roll, put the empty roll in the bin, got a new one from the cupboard and put it on the holder, without being asked and without me in the room.

Also, my DD (2.0) counted up to 12 for the first time - she's been counting to 10 for a while and I never bothered trying to teach her any further so I was quite surprised.

I know they're only small things but they made me proud and make this whole parenting lark worthwhile Grin

What little things have your DC(s) done today to make you proud? Not big things like taking first steps or passing an exam. Little things that you wouldn't normally tell anyone about but now have an excuse to.

My 17 month old daughter said "pompom".
My 11 year old son cleaned the kitchen table with minimal moaning
My other 11 year old son went to the shop to buy catfood and didn't spend the change on himself.

DD's 1&2 went to my best friends house for tea and were superbly behaved, they usually are but after a few horrors friends we have hosted here it makes me realise I should be very pleased with them :)

ds (10) has practised his double bass twice today without any moaning Grin

silverfrog · 31/01/2011 19:30

dd1 answered a direct open question ("what do you want for tea?" - answer mashed potato and cauliflower Grin) seems a small thing, but she has a severe langugae delay and ASD, so it is a huge breakthrough.

dd2has remebered to say please and thankyou for most of the day (she's 3). oh, and to put her hand in front of her mouth when she coughs!

NewDKmum · 31/01/2011 19:30

DD1 (4) and DD2 (3) take turns on using the one very special Hmm spoon for eating their breakfast oatmeal - so each gets to use it every other day.

Today DD2 was really upset that it wasn't her turn, so DD1 told her not to cry and handed her the spoon :)

SilveryMoon · 31/01/2011 19:30

My ds1 (3.6yrs) Put his trousers on all by himself. It's the first time I have witnessed it. I hear he does it at school when they change for P.E, but I've never seen it Smile

QOD · 31/01/2011 19:36

My dd emptied the dishwasher without whinging. But only cos it's day 1 of pocket money trial!

systemsaddict · 31/01/2011 19:40

Ds aged 4 wrote his first sentence today. It read, "put a cat in a big hat". Or rather, "qut a cat in a dig hat" ... Grin

AND he had his hair cut at the hairdresser's at the weekend without a meltdown which, given that he has sensory modulation problems and hates light touch, especially on his head and near his face, noise of hairdryers, bright lights, and sitting on high things, was a major major achievement. Tbh I'm more proud of that than the sentence!

blowninonabreeze · 31/01/2011 19:46

DD2 (2.10) spontaneously offered to swap with another 2 year old who was having a big tantrum at her ballet class because she'd been given a white pompom instead of a pink one.

DD1 4.10 read the whole of "Spot starts School" to her sister whilst I dried her hair. It was a new book from the library, and she sounded out every word with very little assistance from me. I didn't really realise how good she's got at reading Blush I read her school book with her every night and read other stuff with her all the time, but this was the first time I'd whitnessed her choosing the material and reading it to DD2. {Blub Blub emoticon]

MonkeyandParrot · 31/01/2011 19:51

DD2 is allergic to being put down (12 months) and DD1 (2.5) seems to view a sitting baby as target practise. Today when i was getting dressed (only thing not possible with DD2 in sling) DD1 did not throw anything, instead she sat next to her sister as sang incy wincy spider. I was very proud Smile

Dancergirl · 31/01/2011 19:57

My nearly 4 year old dd got a special teddy bear card from her nursery teacher for knowing ALL the letters in the alphabet.

Dd2 (8 today!) told dd3 they couldn't listen to story CD in the car as dd1 wasn't there and dd2 was concerned she would miss some.

bambiandthumper · 31/01/2011 21:58

DTS just recited the whole of the alphabet as I put him to bed :) The first time I have heard it!

DTD ran out of school and told me I was the bestest mummy she had had so far Hmm, well the sentiment was there!

DD2 (7 months) has just been smiling all day and been generally good company and is up for lots of cuddles :o

deepdarkwood · 31/01/2011 22:02

DS (6) wrote the final page in his writing practice book - we've been looking at how much his writing has improved.

DD (4) made her teacher and her best friend a lovely card and wrote "I love you. I'm sorry" Granted, she had to do it as her & her best mate had a little haircutting session at school, but still.... Grin

NoWayNoHow · 31/01/2011 22:03

Nursery teacher told me she was just about to ask someone to stay behind after lunch to help clear the table when DS (3.3) VOLUNTEERED!!

Bless his little cotton socks!

debka · 31/01/2011 22:33

DD (22mo) said NEWSPAPER- I had no idea she knew the word!

pippop1 · 31/01/2011 23:49

DS1, 22 and in last year of Uni, told me that he phoned or emailed all of the many, many companies that he's applied to for graduate training schemes. Four sounded promising from what he said. This is a miracle in the present economic climate. Crossing fingers for him.

Honestly it's almost as thrilling as when he said his first word!

littlebylittle · 01/02/2011 18:46

Ds did not retaliate at any point at toddler group despite fairly extreme provocation.

mrsunreasonable · 01/02/2011 19:30

DS1 (3) was awarded 'Pupil of the Week' and got a certificate and everything! I know it was probably just his turn to get it but I'm still stupidly proud of him!

PinkIsMyFavouriteCrayon · 01/02/2011 21:07

DD (13 months) slept through the night for the very first time last night! 19.30 til 06.15, fan-bloody-tastic!

Liz79 · 01/02/2011 22:05

3yo dd used her cup to draw a circle, very impressed at ingenuity. Is she meant to he able to count to 10 though like someone's 2yo above?? Has mastered concept of 1 &2 now learning 3.

9mo ds went down for naps with no fuss & has recently started eating LOTS of solids after previously eating not much. In fact he eats better at meal times than she does.

babylann · 01/02/2011 22:07

Went shopping with my 8 month old girly today. A baby went by in its pushchair and did a little squeal, and she mimicked him. We had a little giggle about it and about 5 minutes later, the baby must have been a good few aisles away, squealed again and DD mimicked again.

She's always mimicking these days, it's adorable. She copies squeals, coughs and "ba ba ba" sounds.

Figgyrolls · 01/02/2011 22:15

ds (5 nearly 6 months) sat on his own for the first time, then ate all his lunch!

Dd (3) has been sharing the most important bear in the world with her baby brother, without being asked or encouraged ALL BY HERSELF.

Am a bit proud!

PoledrathePissedOffFairy · 01/02/2011 22:17

DD1 was late for Brownies today (she's just 7, and has only been at Brownies for a few weeks). We (me, DD1 along with DDs 2 and 3) trotted up the road as quickly as DD3's toddler legs could carry her. When we were in sight of the church hall, DD1 said 'It's OK Mummy, I can go from here by myself.'

So I stood and watched my oldest baby race up the road, arms and legs flying, and crash into the hall with a big smile on her face.

I am proud of her, I am.

But does she really have to keep growing up so quickly?

Lucky it was dark on the way home............
