Would you leave your baby...

... asleep in the pram in a dark room which is down a corridor, about 200 yards from where you are spending the evening at a wedding reception? There is no babyphone. The room is completely accessible to everybody who is going in and out of the hotel. You check on your baby every 30 minutes or so, she is normally an excellent sleeper.

Yes I would. Would you lock the door or not though? That would be my dilemma

Rubineski · 10/10/2005 18:56

would be worried if i didn't know everyone at the reception. Could someone take her? what about the staff? would be too worried someone would take her. feel panicky already!

No.

Am normally quite blase about these things but the freedom of access would worry me.

Milliways · 10/10/2005 18:57

No way!

SenoraPostrophe · 10/10/2005 18:58

can't you leave her just outside the door of the function room, with a cellular blanket covering the pram to make it dark? I've done that a few times.

Rubineski · 10/10/2005 18:59

...and just to add, i too am usually quite laid back about these things. My neighbour won't come and see us (with baby monitor) where as I was always happy to go to hers. We live in terraces so it's not far.

Is this ammunition for an argument you're having?

LilacBump · 10/10/2005 18:59

i wouldn't

emkana · 10/10/2005 19:02

Sorry, wanted to get some reactions first before explaining the background.
This is what friends of mine did at a wedding reception last Saturday. Everybody there thought how marvellous it was that this couple was so relaxed and wouldn't let the baby ruin their evening etc. I was feeling really quite shocked and nervous and felt like I should be checking on the baby all the time . Am now thinking whether I'm too uptight.

Personally I don't think I would because of the free access thing. I would be tempted to try & organise a 'sitting' rota 10 or 15 mins each between friends or family if that was the only option

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 10/10/2005 19:02

no

Whizzz · 10/10/2005 19:03

'wouldn't let the baby ruin their evening' !

LeahE · 10/10/2005 19:19

I would in a locked room with a baby monitor, but not otherwise (although I've never had an "excellent sleeper" so find it hard to imagine that bit of the situation ;-) ). I can half-imagine that with a really excellent sleeper I might possibly be prepared to give up the baby monitor, but not the locked room.

twirlaround · 10/10/2005 19:32

No- would get a babysitter or else keep baby with me!

mamaoftwo · 10/10/2005 19:32

I'm with you emkana. No way.

FeelingOld · 10/10/2005 19:38

No way would I do this either.

Elibean · 10/10/2005 19:44

Nope.

beansprout · 10/10/2005 19:47

Oh please no. I basically had a nightmare at the weekend about me doing something similar. Shudder

Gem13 · 10/10/2005 20:02

No.

angelp · 10/10/2005 20:04

no way

No

And I'd be too worried about the fire alarm going off to leave her in a locked romm with a monitor either...paranoid, moi?

doormat · 10/10/2005 20:31

no chance

Rhubarb · 10/10/2005 20:34

I was at the school today picking up dd, I bumped into my neighbour picking up her son, she seemed in no hurry and we chatted for a bit, then she shouted to her ds to hurry up as his little sister (6 months old) was alone in the house. I thought she was joking so I raised my eyebrows and said "Really?" And she said, "Oh yes, but she's fast asleep!".

We used to go out every now and then with the baby alarm, if we stayed in a hotel or something. We would lock the room and test the alarm beforehand to make sure it worked. Even then one of us would always check on them and make a bit of noise to check that the alarm was still working!
