What does your three year old watch on telly?

Ours watches DVDs not telly and is addicted to Peppa Pig. She used to be addicted to Humf which I liked - the stories are very sweet and about discovering the world. Peppa is a bit trickier because some of the stories are about personal relationships and my dd has discovered new phrases from it such as "I won't play with you any more" and "it's not fair" said with horrible bratty obstinacy. Lots of the other stories are sweet though. But I'd like to broaden her horizons a bit.
We've been a bit facist baout telly - 4pm for half an hour only. Would quite a little menu like we had as kids when there was only terrestrial telly.

Anyway interested to know what yours like and whether you like it too.

cbeebies (I won't let them watch adverts so we miss out on peppa and thomas).

Grandpa in my pocket
Show Me, Show Me

Are DD's faves.

And the Wizard of Oz on DVD in a constant loop Hmm Grin

MegBusset · 17/01/2011 16:20

Loads of good stuff on CBeebies - DSes love Numberjacks, Hoof And Safety, Mister Maker, Octonauts and Big And Small.

Firawla · 17/01/2011 17:45

Mine not 3, 2 and a half but agree with other comments cbeebies is good. His faves are these:
Octonauts
Chuggington
Charley Bear
Postman Pat
Show me Show me
Timmy time
Mister Maker

I've not seen anything wrong in the content of any of those, all pretty good.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/01/2011 17:47

Cbeebies, Button Moon or Paddington Bear. She got a Peppa Pig dvd for her birthday, not too sure about that one.

putthekettleon · 17/01/2011 17:56

Ben and Holly (channel 5)
Octonauts (cbeebies)
Shaun the Sheep (CBBC)

are DD1's 3 favourites at the moment!

crisptart · 17/01/2011 19:20

My 3 year old is obsessed with bloody Peppa Pig as well, since he got the dvd for Xmas it's all he ever wants to watch and his constant nagging for it on is starting to drive me mad lol! :-)
I really like it, I think it's funny but I'm with you on the bratty behaviour, as he was saying to his bruv the other day 'I don't want to play with you anymore!' and stalking off (Peppa Pig), and completely randomly at the bus stop the other day 'mummy stop cheating I had that card! (confused) lol
Funny but annoying! :-)

Bumperlicious · 17/01/2011 19:23

Agree about Peppa Pig.

Dd loves Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go but they are horrid shouty American cartoons. Charlie & Lola is lovely & Octonauts pretty good. Dd also has a few Rugrats DVDs which I she loves.

Whatevertheweather · 17/01/2011 19:26

My 3 yr old is currently obsessed with deadly 60 (animal progam) on bbc2 in the mornings. Have to say I enjoy this too!

She's also more of a DVD than tv watcher but she does like little Einsteins on Disney and ben 10 whenever she is with my 5yr old nephew.

Peppa pig and ben and holly make my teeth itch!

Rosebud05 · 17/01/2011 19:40

Show me show me, Charlie and Lola, Numberjacks, alphablocks, Mr Tumble, Boogie Beebees, I can cook, gigglebiz.

All wholesome family fun, if a little grating on the 2nd viewing for you.

tummytickler · 17/01/2011 19:51

3 year old ds loves Baby Loony Tunes, Gigglebiz, Fireman Sam and Me Too!. Also episodes of the Pink Panther on DVD.
I cannot get him to sit still and watch a film though (much to the annoyance of my other dc!).

DS 3 LOVES Octonauts and Grandpa in My Pocket.
Octonauts is actually brilliant.

roundthehouses · 17/01/2011 20:28

DS loves Peppa Pig, its a pretty recent addition. I do like it, I think its quite cute and funny but do agree about the phrases, ds says "it´s NOT FUNNY" and "YUCK" all the time now Hmm oh and "DINOSAUR" at random intervals.

Unfortunately it is currently the ONLY prog that halts his incessant 7am-7pm chatter and he literally freezes in front of the box for the 10 or 15 mins it is on. So for now, we are sticking with it Grin

He also likes Fireman Sam, Dora and Postman Pat - each having their moment at firm favourite but no longer effective at this "pause" effect. Go Diego drives me batty.

alittleteapot · 17/01/2011 21:20

it's a shame about Peppa because i think it's got a lot going for it but the bratty phrases are very annoying. also the one we've got from the library at the moment has one about being scared of spiders. I hate little girl role models who are scaredy cats or who don't like vegetables (Lola) etc.

will check out some of these. really want to find some nice innocent shows that DON"T have bratty role models. I think dd can do that on her own without being shown Wink

How do you all manage TV watching? We're quite strict as she's an addict and it used to be tantrum stuff, so she watches at around 4pm for half an hour (actually often nearer to an hour now.)

My fear about introducing cbeebies is how i deal with it when she realises it just carries on and on and on...

Ben & Holly's magic kingdom is lovely. We have a DVD of it and they are nice stories & not bratty

Mine watch TV for up to an hour before bed - i usually pause cbeebies so they watch Octonauts, Chuggington & Story Train as they don't like Night Garden etc. They are 4 & 2 btw

roundthehouses · 18/01/2011 08:10

we have the tv on in the morning, for up to an hour but that is while all the other morning activity is taking place. I know other people don´t do tv in the morning and frankly I can´t understand how they do it! He is not quite glued to it in the morning, he was already dressed as a pirate when i came down at 7.30am and playing with his teddies - but it does distract him long enough to stop the non stop chatter and give dh and I a chance to have our coffee and open our eyes.

he then watches about 30mins at lunchtime (max an hour) and 20mins of peppa pig before bed.

I know loads of parents are much stricter on this but I NEED these pauses during the day so I think its fine for us.

alittleteapot · 18/01/2011 11:41

Thanks will look up the non bratty suggestions!

My DD is 3 and has loved Peppa Pig for over a year now. I don't see much wrong with it as the stories are about "normal" family life.

She loves 3rd and Bird and Waybuloo too but I find that a bit weird!

Sometimes watches Show Me Show Me and Zingzillas.

Most of CBeebies shows are pretty good

Missymoomum · 19/01/2011 14:28

I have a just turned 4 yr old DS and a 2.5 yr old DD. We've been living abroad for the last few months so have to rely on DVDs so stocked up on a few of the TV series that they liked when we were at home which are Peppa Pig (a big fave), Chuggington, Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, Thomas the Tank Engine, ITNG (although not as popular with them nowadays) and Roary the Racing Car. They also love the Gruffalo.
I tend to let them watch about half an hour of a DVD between dinner and bath time although if they're being particularly hyper before tea, i may put the DVD on beforehand. Sometimes we may watch a film like Toy Story or Monsters Inc if we're having a quiet day, but other than that the TV is never on although alot of that is because the TV here is crap lol!
I agree CBeebies is great, i just wish we could get it here Sad.

BlueChampagne · 20/01/2011 13:14

Showing my age here, but dvds of Bagpuss, Clangers and Mr Men are popular, as is the CBeebies Bedtime Hour - especiallay Waybuloo rather than Night Garden. Have to say that Bagpuss and Clangers in particular stand up to repeated viewing better than Waybuloo & Night Garden, which I find very simplistic and unchallenging - for DS as well as me!

BecauseItoldYouSo · 20/01/2011 13:15

Dora The Explorer
Angelina Ballerina
Disney movie DVD's

DoNotTumbleDry · 20/01/2011 13:23

Show Me Show Me is lovely. Reminds me of an updated version of good ole Playschool. Also Mister Maker, I can cook and Nena and the Neurons.
