playschool won't change dirty nappy

My ds who is 3 and not potty trained, believe me I tried all summer and gave up .Sent him to playgroup with pull up on .I got a phonecall on friday to come and change his nappy.
I brought him home as it wasn't worth the hassle so he missed half an hour only.

I am going to start training him again next week but was wondering if this is normal procedure in other playgroups/preschool,whatever they're called.

Just thought I'd mention my friend's son wasn't potty trained when he started at the school's nursery. He was also going to a private nursery for the rest of the day, so if he needed changing at the school nursery, then they would call the private nursery and someone would go from there to change him. I thought this was bizarre but I guess it's standard practice.

Also, I found you have to keep putting the child on the potty, even after they have seemingly got the idea. Even now my ds has been using the potty for about 6 weeks, I still have to sometimes decide for him when he will wee (and there are still loads of accidents!)

But you must know all this if your ds is your second. They say boys are harder to train than girls, but I must admit I didn't notice that especially. Good luck with it anyway.

if they accept children who aren't fully potty trained then they have to make provisions to change them if they need changing! frankly i find it disgusting that they would leave a child in a pooy nappy/pull up until th parent got there. all the staff have to be police checked and you don't need insurance to change a nappy surely?

alot of pre school nurseries do not have the facilities to change nappies.they have quidelines to follow, you are not actually allowed to be in a toilet on your own with a child.i used to help in my dd nursery and i could not take the kids to the loo.tbh though if my child had ever had an accident i would rather them ring me than someone else changing my child.they have to ring all sn parents too.they cannot exclude a child from state nursery for not being potty trained but they are not employed to change nappies.

I couldn't go home fromwork every time my kids had needed their nappy/pants changing! Why wouldn't you want someone else changing your child?

polly - I am in the same situation as you.

ds3 started at playgroup last week. He has no desire atm to go to the loo although will sit on it before his bath, if I'm lucky he might do the odd wee. He will happily sit in poo and has shown no inclination to use the loo of his own free will.

He is 2yrs 9nths btw. He goes to p/g in a pull up at their insistence. If he poos they will phone me to come and change him. However, if I were to put him in pants and he pooed in them, then they will clean him up and put clean pants and trousers on him.

Seems bizarre to me as I would've thought changing a nappy is preferable and easier than a pair of soiled pants?

Luckily so far he hasn't done a poo whilst he's there so the issue hasn't come up yet.
