Just wondered how many of us are happy spending the whole day in your house with the children & no other company? I realised the other day that I NEVER do.We are always out & about, going for walks or if we are in,having visitors.I am never on my own with them say from 8-6,without going out or someone coming around to play ect.

I checked with a couple of friends with children & they are exactly the same-I thought it was just me.So do you stay in all day on your own with your children?

Even if it is only to the supermarket (how sad is that!)

handlemecarefully · 21/09/2005 11:13

and we are not necessarily going out for the kids benefit, it's more for me...

at this thread! Me and Rhubarb are obviously very unusual - I love having a day at home with the children (obviously holidays only as they're at school/nursery). It's so nice not to have to rush anywhere and we just chill out, play outside etc. DS aged 6 describes them as "calm days" and often craves one if things have been a bit manic.

Think I'll change my name to flashingnosethefreak .

lordy lordy lordy no, not if I can possibly help it.
fresh air is good for both of us...

auntymandy · 21/09/2005 11:25

Sometimes, I stay in all day yes.

charliecat · 21/09/2005 11:29

Whenever they are not at school we are in most days alone. Summer holidays we were in all the time except about 7 seperate days where we did something.
If I/they had been climbing the walls I would have took them out but they were perfectly happy staying in playing or running in and out all day.
They accused me of wasting thier play time by sending them to school

Lizzylou · 21/09/2005 11:31

About once a fortnight, but do try to get out most days, be it visiting friends/playgroups/supermarket/visits to the park or soft play centre....it can drive you stir crazy!

auntymandy · 21/09/2005 11:32

my ds3 goes to playschool 2 mornings and gym 1 morning then the other days we might go out or stay in. We stay in mostly after playschool

Fennel · 21/09/2005 11:34

Never. Though now they are a bit bigger (they are 5,4,1) they will play happily at home for ages, so we don't go out as often as we used to. I always used to go out twice a day when they were babies/toddlers.

nailpolish · 21/09/2005 11:35

the thought of staying in all day fills me with dread. i would be stark raving mad by teatime. dd1 (2and a half) gets itchy feet and is always pestering me to "go out mummy" even if its to the shop for a comic. she is not really a girl to play with her toys, she would rather be out and about, exploring, visiting other people, going to the playpark. although im not a big fan of the playpark, just because dd2 is still only 11 mths and although she can sit in a swing, if dd1 wants help on the slide or whatever, its pretty difficult while holding dd2 under one arm. be better when shes walking too

we even make an adventure of going to asda.

its mind boggling some days thinking up things to do, especially with the colder days coming in

Donbean · 21/09/2005 11:35

ME! i love em.
We had one yesterday as it happens.
We just play and potter.
Try not to have too many simply because i feel so guilty at not doing some thing especially on a nice day.
Some days you just cant be bothered and any way i always end up spending money if we go out which is bad!

nailpolish · 21/09/2005 11:37

agree about spending money - i get round this by only taking out £1.50 or whatever.

you must have a better imagination than me donbean as i am crap at thinking up games to play etc in the house

auntymandy · 21/09/2005 11:39

I think I am lucky as my children happily play by themselves! I have guilt pangs for not doing organised stuff with them, but they really like doing their own thing.

I like it! I work full-time and love being at home when I can

Tortington · 21/09/2005 11:58

god not if i can help it

compo · 21/09/2005 12:22

at least once a week

fastasleep · 21/09/2005 12:44

All the time! Everywhere involves a 15 minute walk to the bus stop and then a 30 minute at the very least bus trip and then usually a train or another bus... being pregnant and sore and tired we spend more days in than out, is that really a bad thing though? I don't see why people think it is! We make sure to go somewhere sociable at least twice every week unless one of us is sick... I don't think we need more than that!

Mum2girls · 21/09/2005 12:48

rarely, we all go stir crazy.

must admit i do a lot with ds in the house..we make cakes, paint, play doh, read, play with the way too many toys he has, play with the dog, dance and when he watches some tv..ie like now I come online for some sanity..lol

puddle · 21/09/2005 13:25

We always go out at some point - fresh air is essential. If we had a bigger garden I'd be more likely to stay put all day. We always meet people when we go out, even if we haven't arranged to.

swedishmum · 21/09/2005 13:27

Where we live involves driving everywhere so after I've done the bus stop run at 7.35 and the school run at 8.40 I feel like I need to start my day again. Though I often get so bored at home dd1 and I toddle off 45 miles to Bluewater - that can be expensive in my MPV even if I don't buy anything! We've just got a puppy so I'm housebound right now but at least I'm not spending much.
