i love the "buying their toys off them"....hmmmmm..... wonder if that would work in buying my 6 yr old's dummy's off him...and you all think i'm joking.

see...i truly am a bad mum...what 'good' mum allows a six yr old a dummy in bed???

(choice so far is WET beds every time we 'misplace' a dummy....and his 2 older brothers are autistic...and he shows 'signs' of this too...so i feel that his 'need' for a dummy is sensory....but i still feel TERRIBLE.)

I have a 2 year old who drinks a bottle of tea (with sugar ) a maximum of 4 times a month! (That has got me genuine {shock] looks before)

I let DD watch Buffy and LOTR (again, 2 yrs old)... we did draw the line at Dawn of the Dead, she started crying with the first zombie and we decided that maybe some monitoring of her tv intake would be good.

Most of all....

I steal the sweeties from her party bags, give her just the toys to play with, and eat the sweets myself when she's in bed

am not sure about this thread, on the one hand i am annoyed at it and on the other am annoyed at my myself for being wary of posting, at what what started off as a dig at another thread - which i think was a silly thing to do has morphed into what some feel genuinly guilty for and what some are using as mockery and others are using for fun.

so hoorah at the mockery of societal expectation and boo at the digs.

yeah, I missed that too custardo
tell us why you're a bad mother though, while you're here....

Tortington · 19/09/2005 23:32

i am a right good mum as it happens

moozoboozo · 19/09/2005 23:33

Realised I was a bad Mum today when me and DP were styling DS's hair into ridiculous dos, purely for our own amusement.

flamesparrow · 20/09/2005 08:00

That makes you good parents - he wasn't bothered by the styles (am assuming), and it kept you happy, therefore giving positive vibes, making him happy

speedymama · 20/09/2005 09:05

trefusis, "We take them to BK sometimes... and make a "treat" out of it, thus enhancing its value when compared with wholemeal organic beetroot crumble. We do the same with sweets and chocolate"

I'm a bad mama because I let my DT (18months) chomp on biscuits at the end of the day if they have eaten all their fruit and veg during the day. A little bit of what you fancy........

colditz · 20/09/2005 09:22

I am a bad mummy because every day I utter the words

"If you eat X you can have Y"

Thereby making one food group more appealing than the other.

I don't care, it makes him eat potato.

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 09:27

Well my contribution was a dig at a number of threads past and recent custardo, hands up to that - unabashed and unashamed.

I do think there is a lot of mumsnet piety and sometimes rebel against it.

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 09:41

Meant to add on a more positive note that I have been comforted by this thread to see that there are other 'average jo' mothers out there... flawed and imperfect mums who are doing their best, and for the most part doing a cracking job...

colditz · 20/09/2005 09:51

Agree HMC

i am fed up of seeing posts like

"X put a cup of tea in a bottle and gave it to her 2 yo"

"X told me she never reads a story at night, just lets them watch a video (shocked and appalled, weeping with pity)"

cos, frankly, it's not bloody child abuse. It's just a bit ignorant, and I bet the kid loves it.

flamesparrow · 20/09/2005 09:52

Oi you - callin me ignorant! (Tea post further down)

colditz · 20/09/2005 09:54

I am very ignorant

a little bit of ignorance does wonders for the peace of mind, better than all the angst in the world.

flamesparrow · 20/09/2005 09:57

Yup - Much prefer ignorance

harpsichordcarrier · 20/09/2005 10:02

get with it ladies
it's not called ignorance
it's called "relaxed parenting"
and it's all the thing, apparently

colditz · 20/09/2005 10:03

well HCC, I didn't know that, so I don't have to care

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 10:03

It's good to be amongst friends.....

Kindred spirits and all that

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2005 10:04

'relaxed parenting'

fabulous!

flamesparrow · 20/09/2005 10:42

My mum tells me I'm not lazy, I'm just "laid back"

staceym11 · 21/09/2005 09:30

what does it really matter how people are using this thread the thing is none of us are perfect, everyone has to hav e5 mins to themselves sometimes and if the means giving the kids a bag of crisps/letting them watch tv/have a fizzy drink every once in a while who cares, we all love them and they'r happy isnt that whats important?

i was using the thread to tell people how i parent without the shock factor, coz i dont really care what people think, i bring my daughter up the way i see fit and if anyone thinks a 11mth old drinking a dribble of ginger beer or coke is wrong then sod them coz it aint doing her any harm!
