Can I just ask a question? How do your kids know so much about these things? Before I had children, I thought I'd be pestered non-stop for these sorts of things. Six years later, I've never been asked by DS1 or DS2 for anything like this. They like playing the agmes on the CBeebies website, but they've never asked about any other sort of computer game.

yes weesaidie, unless I got it totally wrong I thought the convention was that if you followed something with a it meant it was tongue-in-cheek?

I obviously spend too much time playing games.....

I'll tell you how my kids know about these things -- because dh is the biggest kid in the house adn he buys them all

Dinosaur, none of our consoles are the Dkids, they are mine and DHs so they've grown up around them (like I did, we had an Atari in the '70's)

Then our friends children played games at our house, and they got them for birthdays and christmas and so it spreads..........

I play games on my PC, RPG, they are terribly addictive. Divide my baby free time between Mumsnet and Baldurs Gate!

Thank you. Feel like our DSs are missing out now! But can't stand computer games myself. Tried to play one once (Doom? Something like that) and hated it (and was no good at it, more to the point!).

I NEVER play games consoles myself, but dh and the 2 boys love them. Still I've always got my mumsnet addiction to give me RSI

I wouldnt myself. I dont flatter myself that this makes me a better mother, just dont feel they need it. If they want to keep in touch with technology they can play with my phone.

my sons have a playstation and my daughter has a computer - they are definatley sod off to your room toys that i wouldnt be comfortable giving a 5 year old as i dont think a 5 year old should be alone in their room.
it is a toy which is used tothe exclusion in my experience of other things. i have taken it away and told them to sod off out instead as shooting things for hours on end although may be helping hand eye coordination ( great for getting the first punch in at school) cant be good for feeding the soul good things. that is better experienced playing football outside in the street, cropping little kids and making them cry

zippitippitoes, reading you post reminded me of a game I used to play on my dragon 32 in the early 80s. You went into rooms trying to find numbered keys and trying to avoid rooms with snakes.

please someone tell me what it was called!... its driving me mad.

if i were to buy her a gamecub it would live in the frontroom as she doesn't and isn't going to have a telly in her room.also i want to monitor closely her time on it and join in with her on it.
