If you stuck your child in front of the TV, how long before they would move?

I actually think it would be a good 4 hours before my dd actually MOVED from the sofa. I can't imagine her ever being bored of telly. I only let her watch 1 hour at a time though. She is nearly 3.

I am tempted to experiment this afternoon to see if she will just sit there all day ... (well I'm 38 weeks pregnant!)

not Pingu - 10 minutes

Pingu - never.

5 minutes on a good day.

WigWamBam · 15/09/2005 14:06

My dd is 4, and if I let her she would sit there in front of the telly from the time she got up in the morning, until the time she went to bed.

I don't let her ... although sometimes the temptation is very great indeed

At 38 weeks you are entitled to put her there and leave her, I reckon. Have a little nap.

expatinscotland · 15/09/2005 14:07

If it were CBeebies, it'd probably be about 20 minutes. She'll sit thru the entire Balamory, Tikkabilla and Storymakers.

The only DVDs she'll sit through are Maisy and Teletubbies ones.

daisy1999 · 15/09/2005 14:07

twin dds
one would last 10 mins max, the other would sit there until the screen went blank!

motherinferior · 15/09/2005 14:07

(And my two, not sure but Dd1 in particular would veg and stay vegging. DD2 would wander off if a jigsaw were in the vicinity.)

Lonelymum · 15/09/2005 14:08

Depends what is on. Mine would watch Pokemon and The Simpsons till they had fossilised but they don't just watch anything anymore.

Bagpuss30 · 15/09/2005 14:08

ah, yes but cbeebies is educational y'know .

Fennel · 15/09/2005 14:08

one day I was 41 weeks pregnant and I had to look after dd1 aged just 4 for the day. She watched tv for 6 hours solid . that was the most ever and I plead extenuating circumstances - if you've ever been 41 weeks pregnant you can remember how very grumpy and fed up it makes you.

Enid · 15/09/2005 14:11

dd1 (5) would watch a whole film through. dd2 (nearly 3) chats through all telly/films but would probably manage about 15 minutes.

LadyTophamHatt · 15/09/2005 14:12

ds2 has been on the sofa since we dropped ds1 at school this morning, so that's about 5 hours so far.

BUT...

He's asleep atm and has broken his gaze from the TV a few times to be sick in a bowl so am I forgiven?

Ds3 has been pottering around, watching 10 mintes here and there.

Bugsy2 · 15/09/2005 14:19

not until I untied the ropes!!!! Only joking - promise.
DS can veg for an hour or two very happily. DD will be up and fidgety after about two mins.

cadbury · 15/09/2005 14:23

dd (nearly 5) would manage 4 hours of cebeebies or 2/3 of a film. Ds (just 2) would do 5-10 mins max

suedonim · 15/09/2005 14:31

Dd2'd be there forever, given her own way! Honestly, I've never come across such a TV-obsessed child, she just loves it. But she can be lured away without throwing a hissy fit and often does other things while watching so I'm not too concerned, tbh. None of my other three were like this so I don't know why dd2 is such a dedicated square-eyes.

pablopatito · 15/09/2005 14:37

DS (5 months) does 20 minutes if its MTV2, or 10 minutes of any other channel, but only first thing in the morning. Its the best 20 minutes of my day.

TwinSetAndPearls · 15/09/2005 15:49

about 34 seconds unless it was scooby doo, tikkabilla or big cook little cook.

Mytwopenceworth · 15/09/2005 15:51

February

dinosaur · 15/09/2005 15:51

About 10 seconds unless it's just before a mealtime, when miraculously they will be completely absorbed in whatever's on and make an enormous fuss about switching off to come and eat. AAAAAAAAAAAarghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

TwinSetAndPearls · 15/09/2005 15:54

lol mytwopenceworth.

what amazes me about dd is that she can't sit and watch telly it has to involve dancing or running around.

Put on a Wombles DVD and I think ds would sit there forever. As I am recovering from pneumonia this can come in quite handy.

I love 30 minute DVDs. Perfect for a shower or cooking a meal.

paolosgirl · 15/09/2005 16:00

DD - about 15 minutes, then she wanders off to her arts and crafts (or the drawing room as she calls our dining room)

DS - only to go to the loo (and even then....) and eat a meal. He'd watch it all day if I let him.

QueenOfQuotes · 15/09/2005 16:01

DS1 - 5 minutes (unless it was Top Gear or similar)

DS2 - as long as the 'theme' tunes from teh kids programmes last - then he's off again

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2005 16:17

25 minutes if it's Dora. About 2 minutes if it's anything else.
