Footwear for 9MO...

DD is 9 months and pulls any and everything off her feet, including a lovely pair of fur-lined leather ankle boots, one of which is now lost forever Sad.

So we had given up over the summer, and put her either in babygros/things with feet, or she just went barefooted. Now it's colder this isn't going to work any more but I don't know what to do, and don't want to fork out another 20 quid on something that gets taken off and flung into a hedge on its first outing...

Any advice?!

I like the wee soft leather shoes - bobux, shoo shoos, daisy roots etc - with elastic round the top. They're super cute and they (generally!) stay on! You can get new ones in ebay shops for a fraction of the price.

ruddynorah · 06/09/2010 20:10

cheap socks, clothes with feet or just bare feet.

Meglet · 06/09/2010 20:10

Is she walking yet?

She isn't walking. She is only just crawling...Tights are OK (she can't get those off yet!) but dresses impede the crawling...

tights under trousers.

Shoshe · 06/09/2010 20:25

Does she realy need anything on indoors?? I certainly dont put anything on my minddees indoor, they just get pulled off and they find it difficult to 'feel' their balance in shoes.

(putting 'shoes' on a unwalking child is relativily new thing, ok my ds is in his thirties, but he didnt have any shoes till he was walking properly)

For going out what is wrong with old fashioned bootees?

I put them in these when we go out, I also have some unlined ones that go over their shoes, for when they are too little for wellies.

Shoshe · 06/09/2010 20:32

hat about something like these some very pretty ones.

Firawla · 06/09/2010 23:15

how about these leather shoes? I don't find either of mine take/took them off really, and if they get lost they are v cheap so not to worry too much. btw the quality is fine! they are just good value not cheap and horrible or anything

I have a 9mth old in this make:
Robeez
(but DS is in a boy version)

which he has never been able to pull off, and they are lovely and soft as well as not being slippy when he stands up

kikid · 06/09/2010 23:34

pre walkers don't need shoes, best to let go bare foot. if cold use tights under babygro or dugarees. socks go inside babygros too.

lifeas3plus1 · 07/09/2010 08:26

Ds is nearly 17 months and still goes barefoot 90% of the time.

I do keep a pair of shoes under the pram for when we get to the park etc but I didn't buy any type o shoes for him until he was walking confidently around the house.

At 9 months I would stick to tights or socks with sock on's (£3 from mothercare)

She really doesn't need shoes yet. Save your money. Kids shoes are ridiculously expensive and you'll be buying loads soon enough.

lal123 · 07/09/2010 08:32

we resorted to buying DD2 (11 months) a pair of wee shoes to wear in the house when its cold. We have wooden floors and if she is just in socks or tights she slips on the floor when pulling herself up - so shoes to give her grip more than anything. Agree that barefoot is better.

MrsMc82 · 07/09/2010 09:43

Friend of mine is a podiatrist and strongly advises against shoes on babies until they can walk..... Even pram shoes aren't great for their little feet......

Dancergirl · 07/09/2010 14:22

No footwear for babies. Why do they need it? Shoes are for protecting your feet when out walking.

Habbibu · 07/09/2010 14:30

We bought moccasins from Raindrops when dd was wee - they're just like socks, with a soft grippy leather sole stitched on - no pressure and squishing on feet, but warm and non-slip. here

teenyanne · 07/09/2010 14:40

We got a few pairs of soft leather shoes from here, mainly because my 10 mo always pulls her socks off and ends up with freezing cold feet. Also with only socks, she slips on our laminate floor when she pulls herself up on the furniture, but with the shoes on, she doesn't. I do let her have bare feet a lot of the time, and put the socks / shoes on when her feet are like ice.

mosschops30 · 07/09/2010 14:51

I dont know why you would put an 9 month old in shoes or 'fur lined ankle boots' Hmm.
Shoes are to protect your feet when youre walking outside!

dd and ds1 only had shoes when they started walking/cruising and only then outside.

ds2 is 9 months and is barefoot at the moment, he doesnt l;ike socks either but his feet are usually in the cosy toes in the pushchair or I cover him with a blanket

mosschops, we live in an old house in the east of Scotland, with wooden and tiled floors downstairs. It gets cold here! ds likes to cruise a lot, and will slip in socks, so the moccasins will be ideal for us come winter.

Flowerface · 07/09/2010 19:09

It was for the warmth, mosschops... Sorry if it seems ridiculous, but I thought that something a bit more involved than socks would be harder to take off. Apparently I thought wrong!

I am not necessarily looking for shoes, I do see that they aren't really necessary until they walk. But I think they do need something, otherwise they're going to have blue feet!

Flowerface · 07/09/2010 19:12

Habbibu, those moccasins look great!

OP posts:
glemas · 08/09/2010 08:18

We swear by these. They are warm, give grip for cruising and crawling and really soft. They also wash really well.

OhNoNotTheHoneyBabies · 08/09/2010 13:14

We have lino through our entire flat (cold in winter) and if DS (16mo) wears socks he skids all over the place, so we bought him some with those little rubber bits on the bottom. They go up to his knees so it's tricky for him to get them off unless he has a really good go at it!

You can also get tights with little rubber bits on the soles to stop them slipping. Where we live H&M do them for boys and girls.

I've seen those moccasins and they look good - might try them too! Smile
