Name dilemma at 38 and a half weeks pregnant!

I have one DD and I am due with a suprise in less than two weeks. I thought we had a girl name chosen but at the final hour we have thrown it out - for a variety of reasons.

SH and I both really love a name which has one syllable. But, our DD1s name has 4 syllables.

Does it matter that they won't match? Will it sound odd to say them together? When picking names did you worry about how two names would sound together and try to even them out?

we didnt think about syllables or whether they go, but as it happens, if i have a girl this time, ill have a Jessica and a Rebecca! We've got Aiden for a boy so no matching there!

hunkermunker · 29/08/2005 19:12

Really hard to say without hearing both names, but I think that if you love the name, use it. They won't be referred to together for the majority of their lives after all.

Pinotmum · 29/08/2005 19:12

No I don't think it matters. My dd has a 2 syllable name and my ds a 1 syllable name.

i think they are nice together....

lucy5 · 29/08/2005 19:14

I dont think it matters Ive just tried annabell and joe to check out the syllable thing and it sounded fine, I dont actually have kids with these names though. We didnt name dd until she was 2 or 3 days old, none of the names we had chosen felt right. we just kept thinking until we found one that fitted, wasnt on either of our very long lists.

Sounds fine to me - lovely names!

starshaker · 29/08/2005 19:16

there nice names and they do go well together

beatie · 29/08/2005 19:17

I like Annabel too but whenever we mention it to other people they turn their noses up. I think everyone thinks of Annabel Croft and thinks it is too posh! Does anyone know any Annabels?

I think that they are beautiful names and go really well together.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 29/08/2005 19:17

thought of annabel here too but settled on Rebecca

hunkermunker · 29/08/2005 19:18

I have no idea whatsoever what my next baby will be called. No idea. Am toying with "the baby"

Twiglett · 29/08/2005 19:19

sorry HM you can't have that because that's what DD is called most of the time by DS .. that or 'my baby'

Twiglett · 29/08/2005 19:20

Olivia and Eve go very well together btw .. I love the name Olivia it is extremely pretty

Those names are lovely are go well together as they are of the same era. If it was Olivia and Ashanti (no offence to any Ashanti's) it wouldn't go imo head cos one is modern and one is traditional.

beatie · 29/08/2005 19:26

It's so much harder to choose names second time round. I now wish I knew if I was having a boy or a girl. I could be deliberating for no reason. Then again... the boys name is fairly inconclusive too.

Beatie, agree totally. DS's name was what he was going to be called before he was even conceived. Never really settled on a girl's name.

This time...no clue whatsoever. Do like one girl's name, but it's very like DS's name (think Olivia and Oliver!) so cannot be used!

And no idea what we're having either - and don't want to know, so one choice will be a total waste of time! Think we'll wait till after the baby's here

Twiglett, please let me use "the baby"!

beatie · 29/08/2005 20:30

Does Annabel typically get shortened to Annie or Anna or Anne?

Anyone.... anyone...

aloha · 29/08/2005 20:57

Twiglett, what a coincidence! "The Baby'" is also my dd's name! Ds however, tends to call her 'Baby' or "My Baby'. She actually turns her head to Baby
I blame in on not naming her for at least a week after she was born.

collision · 29/08/2005 21:01

Both my ds's would have been Annabel if they had been girls and I wouldnt have shortened it I dont think. Thought she could use Anna when she was older if she wanted to.

I love the name.

My ds's are Max and Joshua but get called Maximino and JoshyJosh!! They go well together I think.

Love your girl names.....what are your boys names?
