What's been great about having children today?

I have just spent the last hour or so doing some online shopping (and skipping on and off here too ) whilst Dd (3y4m) has been playing in the livign area ont he floor with all her Happy Land tiyrs. She is in her own world entirely. the people are being moved about and are having conversations between themselves, and she is really into her game. I just have to keep stopping and watching and listening to her. She just makes me smile so much Mind you, I am sure I can hear myself in some of those conversations

We've had a really nice today - swimming and then lunch with Katzguk and her DDs, then some singing and dancing together when we got home and then she's been playing. No tantrums or strops today at all and it's been lovely.

What's been great about being a mum (or dad) for you today?

Realising that ds can play dominoes.

Last weekend we took a lot of ds's outgrown things to a car boot sale. Before we went he helped us to go through his toybox and bookcase and he selected the things he thought was too big for himself, so that "the babies can have them".

We had told him that all the money from selling his baby things could be used to buy him new toys (well it's his birthday in a couple of weeks so he'll be getting some new ones anyway), but even so I was really pleased about how good he was about letting other people take away his toys and books. He wasn't at all posessive about letting them go - and even demonstrated how they worked for potential buyers. At not quite 4 I though that was impressively mature of him. (Don't know - perhaps it's normal, I've never had a 4 year old before).

Anyway he did insist on having a periodic walk round so that he could buy himself something else with his money. So he chose what to buy, asked people how much things were and even sorted out the right change to pay for them. Ok a few of the things he bought will probably not stay popular for long, but when it's only a matter of pence I'm not too worried compared to how much he'll have learnt from the day. Scary how grown up he seems now though, when I think that he's not even starting school for another year.
